The Miami Herald reports the Dolphins have checked in on free agent centers.

With Mike Pouncey expected to miss 2-6 games, the Dolphins are in the market for veteran offensive line help. Sam Brenner is the current in-house favorite to replace Pouncey, but graded out negatively in limited action last year and has just four games of starting experience. Potential free agent options at center are Fernando Velasco, David Baas, Samson Satele, and Dan Koppen. Miami plans to visit with free agent OG Daryn Colledge next week.

The Steelers could re-sign free agent C Fernando Velasco.

Velasco made 11 starts in place of Maurkice Pouncey last season, grading out as a top-25 center by Pro Football Focus. He hasn't drawn any interest from teams because he's still recovering from Achilles surgery. Velasco is Rotoworld's No. 2 remaining center in free agency.

Steelers placed C Fernando Velasco on injured reserve with an Achilles injury, ending his season.

With Maurkice Pouncey (ACL) also on injured reserve, it's the second starting center the Steelers have lost for the season. Velasco was signed in Week 2 and had been a solid addition prior to going down, but will now head into unrestricted free agency with major questions about his health. The Steelers have also released CB DeMarcus Van Dyke from their active roster and signed OT Rashad Butler and C Eric Olsen in corresponding moves.

Steelers agreed to terms with C Fernando Velasco, formerly of the Titans, on a one-year contract.

Coming off a 16-start 2012 where he graded out as Pro Football Focus' No. 11 center, Velasco was easily the best center on the open market, and could immediately slide into Maurkice Pouncey's (ACL) vacated starting role. Kelvin Beachum got thrown around by the Titans following Pouncey's departure on Sunday. It's still a terrible situation for the Steelers, who just can't keep their offensive line healthy.

Titans released C Fernando Velasco.

Velasco was a 16-game starter in 2012, grading out as Pro Football Focus' No. 11 center, but the Titans will go with journeyman Rob Turner. They have fourth-rounder Brian Schwenke waiting in the wings. Velasco was set to make $2.023 million. He should draw interest from center-needy teams. Perhaps Denver will give him a call.

Titans re-signed restricted free agent C Fernando Velasco to a one-year, $2.023 million contract.

A first-year starter at age 27 last season, Velasco ended up being the lone bright spot along Tennessee's interior line. That shouldn't be the case again in 2013 with Andy Levitre at left guard. Pro Football Focus' No. 11 center in 2012, Velasco will be playing for a long-term contract this season.

Titans extended a second-round tender to restricted free agent C Fernando Velasco.

Velasco, 28, provided to be an upgrade on Eugene Amano as Tennessee's starting center in 2012, following Amano's year-ending injury. The Titans could make Velasco play the 2013 season for $2.023 million and lock him up after that.

The Titans plan to tender an offer to restricted free agent C Fernando Velasco.

Tennessee was reportedly undecided on the topic last weekend. Velasco, 28 tomorrow, graded out as Pro Football Focus' No. 11 center in 2012, and he was one of the lone bright spots on the interior of the line.

The Titans still haven't decided if they'll tender an offer to restricted free agent C Fernando Velasco.

A career backup prior to 2012, Velasco was a 16-game starter and graded out as a Top-15 center by Pro Football Focus. If non-tendered, he could draw interest from teams as a low-risk signing. The Titans have C Eugene Amano under contract through 2014, but his $3.94 million salary isn't guaranteed.

With Eugene Amano (triceps) lost for the season, Fernando Velasco is locked in as the Titans' starting center.

"He’s been here a long time. He understands the system and the calls," coach Mike Munchak said. "This is the opportunity he’s been waiting on." A converted guard and former undrafted free agent, Velasco appeared in all 32 games the past two seasons, but made zero starts. It's hard to see how he could be worse than Amano, who was perhaps the league's worst center in 2011.

Titans C Fernando Velasco is expected to compete for a starting job in 2012.

The Titans aren't overly thrilled with holdover Eugene Amano, and Velasco projects as his direct backup going into training camp. Pro Football Focus graded Amano as the least effective center in the NFL on a per-play basis. Velasco appeared in all 16 games last season, making zero starts.

Titans re-signed exclusive rights free agents G/C Fernando Velasco and DT Malcolm Sheppard.

A former undrafted free agent, Velasco has appeared in all 32 games the past two seasons, but made just three starts. Sheppard appeared in 13 games in 2011, making one start and recording eight tackles.

Titans G/C Fernando Velasco recently underwent arthroscopic knee surgery.

The procedure sounds minor and shouldn't cost him much offseason time. Velasco, 26, started three games last year, two at center and one at left guard. He held up moderately well in run blocking, but will return only as a backup.
Thu, Mar 3, 2011 12:47:00 PM

Titans signed OL Fernando Velasco off their practice squad.

Velasco can be a backup at four positions on the offensive line.
