Raiders worked out free agent DE Marcus Benard.

Benard has garnered quite a bit of interest since being released by the Browns with an injury settlement earlier in the month. Arizona had Benard in at their facility last week. Oakland signed Andre Carter a few weeks ago to try and jump start their pass rush, but the defense still sits near the bottom of the league with just seven sacks.

The Cardinals tried out free agent DE Marcus Benard.

Benard was released with an injury settlement by the Browns last week. He dislocated his elbow in the preseason. Thanks to injuries suffered in an October 2011 motorcycle accident, Benard hasn't appeared in a regular season game in over a year, but is still only two seasons removed from leading the Browns in sacks. He should latch on somewhere before season's end.

Benard hasn't appeared in a regular season game since his motorcycle accident last October, but provided he's healthy, should draw interest as a situational pass rusher. They'll revert to injured reserve if they clear waivers. Benard dislocated his elbow in Friday's preseason game after injuries suffered in a motorcycle accident last season limited him to just four games. A situational pass rusher with 45 tackles and 12 sacks in 25 career games, Benard will be a free agent in the offseason.

Browns coach Pat Shurmur revealed Sunday that DE Marcus Benard has a dislocated elbow.

Shurmur wouldn't provide a timetable, but this is a season-threatening injury for a player already on the roster bubble. Benard recorded six tackles (no sacks) in Cleveland's first three preseason games. He's an I.R. candidate.

The Browns refused comment after the game, but it sounds like Benard's Week 1 status is very much in doubt. A situational pass rusher, Benard was limited to four games last season thanks to injuries suffered in a motorcycle accident.

Coach Pat Shurmur said Benard is "doing well" after missing all but four games last season following a motorcycle accident. Benard can be an effective situational pass rusher and should have a chance to earn a job in Cleveland's nickel defense this year. The Browns are short on natural edge rushers.

Updating previous items, Browns DE Marcus Benard is under contract with the team in 2012.

Browns GM Tom Heckert revealed Thursday that Benard's 2011 salary was "tolled" to 2012 because he spent the majority of last season on the reserve/non-football injury list. A promising nickel rusher in 2009 and 2010, Benard might have generated a better market than expected. He had 11 sacks in his first two seasons. Benard should not struggle for sub-package playing time in 2012.

A league source tells the Akron Beacon-Journal the Browns will attempt to re-sign restricted free agent DE Marcus Benard even if he is non-tendered.

Yahoo Sports reported Saturday Benard will be non-tendered, but it's possible the Browns would like to bring him back on a non-guaranteed, incentive-laden deal. Benard is just two years removed from an eight-sack season, and is expected to make a full recovery from an October motorcycle accident.

Benard was limited to just four games last season after an October motorcycle accident landed him on the reserve/non-football injury list. Benard is still not 100 percent after breaking his hand and suffering other injuries in the accident, but is expected to make a full recovery. Working as a situational pass rusher in 2010, he tallied eight sacks in 15 games.

Restricted free agent DE Marcus Benard expects to make a full recovery from the broken hand and other injuries he suffered during last October's motorcycle accident.

Benard was thrown roughly 240 feet from his bike during the wreck and spent the rest of the season on the reserve/non-football injury list. The full extent of his injuries was never disclosed. The 26-year-old Benard was a promising nickel rusher in 2010, tallying 7.5 sacks. It's unclear whether the Browns plan to extent him a restricted free agent tender.

Browns placed DE Marcus Benard on the non-football injury list with a broken hand, ending his season.

Benard is still in the hospital after his Monday motorcycle accident. He's facing charges of reckless operation and driving under a suspended license. Benard had one sack and three tackles through four games. According to the Cleveland Plain Dealer, the Browns will pay the remaining $370,000 on his salary even though they're entitled to withhold it.

Benard suffered a broken hand and was in stable condition Monday night. The rotational rusher and special teamer is unlikely to face league discipline as it's his first known brush with the law.
