Bucs agreed to terms with C Evan Dietrich-Smith, formerly of the Packers, on a four-year, $14.25 million contract.
The deal includes $7.25 million guaranteed. One of free agency's most aggressive teams has gotten better again. Dietrich-Smith has been one of the league's better centers since taking over for Jeff Saturday down the stretch in 2012, grading out as Pro Football Focus' No. 8 middle man in 2013. He's a major improvement on Jeremy Zuttah, though if there's a knock, it's that EDS is a better pass blocker than road grader. He turns 28 in July. Mar 14 - 4:08 PM

ProFootballTalk reports free agent C Evan Dietrich-Smith will visit the Buccaneers.

The Buccaneers are doing their best to upgrade their offensive line, and replacing C Jeremy Zuttah with Dietrich-Smith would be a first step. The Giants are also reportedly interested after cutting veteran C David Baas.

The New York Daily News confirms the Giants are interested in free agent C Evan Dietrich-Smith.

A team source terms the interest as "serious." It's a sign the G-Men are ready to move on from David Baas. Provided the price is right, Dietrich-Smith would be a major upgrade on Baas at this point in his career. The Giants can't come out of the offseason without having shaken up their offensive line.

FOX Sports' Alex Marvez reports free agent C Evan Dietrich-Smith could be an option for the Giants if they decide to release C David Baas.

Aaron Rodgers wants the Packers to re-sign his center, but he appears set to reach free agency. Still only 28 (in July), Dietrich-Smith would be an upgrade on the aging, injury-prone and expensive Baas. The Giants cannot maintain the status quo on their offensive line, which was one of the league's worst in 2013.

Aaron Rodgers is stumping for the Packers to re-sign free agent C Evan Dietrich-Smith.

Dietrich-Smith is Rotoworld's No. 3 free agent center, behind only Alex Mack (Browns) and Brian De La Puente (Saints). "I think you see that with Evan and I, the opportunity to play together for an extended period of time and that would be kind of a quarterback’s dream," said Rodgers. Green Bay's lone realistic in-house replacement would be 2013 fourth-round pick J.C. Tretter.

Packers C Evan Dietrich-Smith sprained his ankle during Wednesday's practice.

Already battling through a sprained knee sustained on Thanksgiving, Dietrich-Smith stepped on a teammate's foot during practice and rolled his ankle. His status for Sunday's game against the Falcons is uncertain. It's yet another concern for the Packers as they allowed Matt Flynn to get sacked seven times against the Lions.

Packers C Evan Dietrich-Smith was forced from Green Bay's Week 13 game against the Lions with a knee injury, and will not return.

RG T.J. Lang has shifted to center. Don Barclay is now at right guard, with Marshall Newhouse at right tackle. It's not good news for a Packers offense that hasn't been able to get anything going with Matt Flynn under center.

Packers C Evan Dietrich-Smith has been diagnosed with a knee sprain.

Dietrich-Smith admitted the injury he sustained in the loss to the Eagles could have been worse. Still, he appears unlikely to play in this week's game against the Giants. That would leave T.J. Lang, who has very little experience at center, to snap to Scott Tolzien.

Packers C Evan Dietrich-Smith sustained a knee injury in Sunday's Week 10 loss to the Eagles.

Dietrich-Smith left late in the second quarter and never returned, leaving guard T.J. Lang to snap to Scott Tolzien. Lang had never played center in a game before at any level. The Packers have arguably been the most injury-ravaged team in the league this year.

The Green Bay Press-Gazette confirms the Packers are "banking on" Evan Dietrich-Smith as their starting center.

"Like last year, the steps he’s made from a professional standpoint are coming to the front for him: leadership, energy, very smart, understands everything," OL coach James Campen said. Dietrich-Smith took over for a fading Jeff Saturday last season, starting the Packers' final four games at center. The 2010 undrafted free agent also made four starts at left guard.

Packers re-signed restricted free agent C Evan Dietrich-Smith to a one-year, $1.323 million contract.

Dietrich-Smith, 27 in July, started eight games -- four at left guard and four at center -- for the Packers last season. He's expected to be the full-time starting center after taking over for Jeff Saturday in Week 16 last season.
Fri, Apr 12, 2013 06:30:00 PM

Packers assigned restricted free agent C Evan Dietrich-Smith an original-round tender.

The lowest tender costs just $1.323 million, but also means the Packers won't receive draft-pick compensation for the former undrafted free agent if he signs an offer sheet elsewhere and they don't match. Dietrich-Smith took over for Jeff Saturday down the stretch last season. He's made nine career starts.

The Packers met with restricted free agent C Evan Dietrich-Smith's agent at the Combine.

Beat writer Tyler Dunne takes it as a sign Green Bay is "ready to make Dietrich-Smith their center of the future with a long-term deal." There was no doubt the Pack would tender Dietrich-Smith a contract, but it appears they have faith in him as a long-term option after he replaced struggling veteran Jeff Saturday down the stretch last season. Dietrich-Smith turns 27 in July.

Packers restricted free agent Evan Dietrich-Smith is expect to be the starting center in 2013.

Dietrich-Smith took over for veteran Jeff Saturday late last season and never looked back. Now Saturday has retired, leaving no real competition for the job. Expect the Packers to retain Dietrich-Smith via a second-round, $2.023 million tender.

Packers signed G/C Evan Dietrich-Smith.

Dietrich-Smith will add depth on the interior with Marshall Newhouse going on injured reserve.
