Bucs signed LB Jonathan Casillas to a one-year, $3 million contract.
The deal is worth "up to" $3 million, so it's probably incentive laden. Bucs GM Mark Dominik loves stealing from division rivals, and 26-year-old Casillas has flashed every-down tools in spurts the past four seasons. In 2012, he was the Saints' nickel 'backer and recorded 31 tackles in 14 games with one start. Mar 13 - 7:13 PM

Free agent LB Jonathan Casillas hasn't had "any contact" with the Saints.

Casillas played 256 snaps at outside linebacker last season, but may no longer be a fit in New Orleans with the Saints shifting to a 3-4 defense. Casillas is injury prone, but appeared in 14 games in 2012. Going on 26, he could draw some interest in the second wave of free agency.

Saints LB Jonathan Casillas has gotten first-team reps only with the nickel package so far in training camp.

Casillas made five starts last season, but is out of the mix for first-string duties this year after all of the Saints' offseason linebacker moves. Injury prone, Casillas is behind Scott Shanle and Will Herring on the strong side.

Saints re-signed restricted free agent LB Jonathan Casillas to a one-year, $1.26 million contract.

Casillas did draw interest from the Titans, but couldn't land a starter's contract. With David Hawthorne and Curtis Lofton now in New Orleans, Casillas will go from starter to relatively high-priced special teamer.

Restricted free agent WLB Jonathan Casillas will visit the Titans on Monday.

Casillas received an original-pick tender, giving the Saints the right of first refusal if he signs an offer sheet, but no draft compensation since he was an undrafted free agent. This will be Casillas' first visit of free agency. New Orleans could be inclined to let Casillas walk after signing David Hawthorne and Curtis Lofton.

Saints placed an original-round tender on restricted free agent tender WLB Jonathan Casillas.

The move gives the Saints the right of first refusal on Casillas, who originally signed as an undrafted free agent. He'll be in line for roughly $1.26 million if he signs his tender. The Saints are saving $667,000 by tendering Casillas at the original-round level instead of the second-round level, but will receive no draft-pick compensation if he signs elsewhere and they choose not to match.

The Saints will reportedly apply the original round/right of first refusal restricted free agent tender to WLB Jonathan Casillas.

Casillas played roughly half of the defensive snaps last season while also serving as a special teams dynamo. The cap-strapped Saints can save $667,000 by using the original pick tender as opposed to the second-round level. Since Casillas was undrafted in 2009, however, New Orleans is leaving itself susceptible to offer sheets that would net them no draft pick compensation.

Saints WLB Jonathan Casillas is nearing 100 percent in his recovery from Lisfranc surgery.

Casillas isn't willing to push it full tilt just yet, but he should be ready for training camp. He's expected to vie for the starting weak-side linebacker job, but the Saints would be wise to pick up veteran insurance in free agency.

Coach Sean Payton revealed Sunday that WLB Jonathan Casillas was placed on I.R. due to a Lisfranc fracture in his left foot.

He'll have surgery next week. It's a blow to Casillas' future, as the team will be more hesitant to rely on him as a starter coming off such a major injury. He was also injury prone at Wisconsin. The Saints have yet to declare a fill-in, though Scott Shanle moving back to weak side seems the best bet.

Saints placed WLB Jonathan Casillas (foot) on injured reserve, ending his season.

The Saints never gave specifics on Casillas' injury, but he went down in the third preseason game and didn't show back up. An emerging player, Casillas had claimed the starting weak-side linebacker job, replacing Scott Shanle. Shanle may now kick back over to WILL with Jo-Lonn Dunbar starting at SAM.

According to Saints beat writer Jeff Duncan, Jonathan Casillas is set to be the team's starting weak-side linebacker, with Scott Shanle making the move to the strong-side.

Who dat? Casillas has only 20 career tackles to his name, but it seems like he's already done enough this preseason to push Shanle to the strong-side. The former special teamer now has a shot to make his mark. Look for Jonathan Vilma to get even more tackles.
