Bears signed C/G Edwin Williams to a two-year extension through 2013.

Williams will wrap up this year with seven starts, all at left guard. A former undrafted free agent from Maryland, Williams has held his own in both run and pass blocking. He may be the Bears' center of the future.

Bears C/G Edwin Williams is being "groomed" as free agent Olin Kreutz's eventual replacement at center.

Last year's play indicates Kreutz has little left in the tank, but he's expected to be brought back on a short-term deal. Williams, undrafted out of Maryland, made two starts at right guard for the Redskins 2009. Pro Football Focus graded him out as well below average in both games.

Bears claimed C/G Edwin Williams off waivers from the Redskins.

Williams went undrafted in 2009 out of Maryland, but should fit the Bears' power-blocking scheme better than the zone-blocking system he couldn't cut it in for Washington. A two-game starter last year, Williams has an outside chance to make the club. Chicago's line has looked terrible in preseason.

Redskins waived C Edwin Williams.

An interesting story, Williams' parents were acknowledged freebase cocaine users, and Edwin was born addicted. He wound up playing at Maryland and made two starts for the Skins last year. Unfortunately, the power-blocking prospect wasn't a fit for Mike Shanahan's new zone-based scheme.

Redskins backup G Edwin Williams is shedding weight in an effort to fit into Mike Shanahan's zone-blocking scheme.

Williams was forced into action last season when injuries ravaged the Redskins' offensive line, but he's a long shot to make the final roster this year. Washington drafted three offensive linemen in April.
