Bengals OC Jay Gruden insists Jermaine Gresham is still the starting tight end despite Thursday's selection of Tyler Eifert.
"I don’t think Jermaine has a lot to worry about," Gruden claimed. "(Eifert's) going to come in here and add another element with the two tight end package or three tight end package." Although the Eifert pick is a clear indictment of Gresham's progress — or lack thereof — there's still a chance he'll remain the Bengals' most targeted tight end. He's no longer even a borderline TE1, however. Thanks to his landing spot, Eifert will have a hard time making a fantasy impact as a rookie. Apr 26 - 10:11 AM

The Cincinnati Enquirer says Jermaine Gresham has improved on his yards-after-catch (YAC) skills.

Gresham's YAC jumped from 3.6 in 2011 to 6.9 in 2012. We're still not impressed. Lacking any breakaway speed or elusiveness, Gresham's upside is always going to be capped. He also struggled with drops last season, recording 10 in 17 games -- including two in the playoff loss to the Texans.

Jermaine Gresham caught two passes for seven yards in the Bengals' Wild Card Round loss to the Texans.

Texans SS Glover Quin deserves credit for sticky coverage on Gresham, but this was a brutally inefficient game for Cincinnati's tight end. Gresham had an ugly drop on Cincinnati's opening drive for what would've been a surefire first-down gain, and another toward the end of the second quarter with Cincinnati down 9-7 and trying to rally before the half. Gresham let yet another ball glance off his hands late in the first half that nearly turned into an interception. Gresham ranked 11th in regular season fantasy points among tight ends. We've been unimpressed with his movement and separation skills and would not anticipate a 2013 leap.

Jermaine Gresham was held without a catch in Cincinnati's Week 17 playoff tuneup win against the Ravens.

Gresham was targeted just once on the day as he played sparingly throughout the first half before finally resting on the sideline for the final 30 minutes of action. The third-year pro set career-highs in catches, with 64, and yards, with 737, in 2012. He also visited the end zone five times. Gresham and the Bengals will open the Wild Card round of the playoffs on the road next weekend as the No. 6 seed.

Jermaine Gresham caught three passes for 38 yards in Sunday's win over the Steelers.

Gresham averaged over 50 yards receiving and had two touchdowns over his previous five games, but was hardly used in the passing game on Sunday. Despite ranking eighth in yards and sixth in receptions at his position, Gresham has struggled with drops and run-blocking this season. He currently grades out as the worst overall tight end by Pro Football Focus.

Jermaine Gresham caught six passes for a team-high 63 yards in Thursday night's Week 15 win over the Eagles.

The big tight end hauled in six of his nine targets on the night and was barely kept out of the end zone in the fourth quarter when he got just one foot down near the sideline. The six grabs tied a season-high, which Gresham's done three times now. He'll have a tough go of it against the Steelers' No. 1 fantasy defense when it comes to stopping opposing tight ends next week. In Week 7 versus Pittsburgh, Gresham reeled in three passes for 19 yards. He'll be a TE2 in Week 16.

Jermaine Gresham caught four passes for 43 yards in the Bengals' Week 14 loss to the Cowboys.

Gresham was quiet, making most of his catches near the line of scrimmage aside from a 25-yarder down the middle of the field on third-and-long. Gresham has been productive enough this season to be trusted as a back-end TE1 against Philadelphia in Week 15. He just rarely offers much upside if he's not scoring TDs.

Jermaine Gresham (hamstring) was limited in Friday's practice and is listed as probable for Week 14 against the Cowboys.

If the Bengals had any doubt about Gresham's Week 14 availability, they would have listed him as questionable. He will be in the starting lineup Sunday.

Jermaine Gresham (hamstring) returned to practice on Friday.

Gresham now appears to be back on track for Sunday's game versus the Cowboys after sitting out Thursday's practice. Check back Friday afternoon for his official injury designation. As long as Gresham doesn't experience a setback, he's a top-10 fantasy option for Week 14.

Jermaine Gresham (hamstring) was downgraded to a missed practice Thursday after participating on a limited basis Wednesday.

The local press is starting to express concern about Gresham's status for Sunday's game versus the Cowboys. Any practice setback is cause for alarm, especially with a soft tissue injury like a hamstring. Fantasy owners counting on Gresham as a top-10 tight end should be sure to line up an alternative. There should be plenty of options, as the tight ends beyond the top-five are essentially a crapshoot for Week 14.

Jermaine Gresham was limited in Wednesday's practice with a hamstring issue.

Gresham isn't believed to be in danger of missing Week 14. Averaging 4.3 catches per game, Gresham has settled in as an every-week, if low-end, TE1.

Jermaine Gresham caught four passes for 35 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's Week 13 win over the Chargers.

He was targeted six times. Gresham lacks elite physical traits -- he's certainly not the seam-stretching vertical threat he was billed to be coming out of Oklahoma -- but he's settled in as a chain-moving tight end and red-zone weapon. Keep Gresham rolling as a mid-range TE1 against the Cowboys in Week 14.

Jermaine Gresham caught four balls for 41 yards and a touchdown as the Bengals curb-stomped the Raiders in Week 12.

He secured all four of his targets. Gresham's value may dwindle a bit down the stretch as rookie Mohamed Sanu earns more weekly targets, but right now he's scoring at a mid-range TE1 level. Keep him rolling at San Diego in Week 13.

Coach Marvin Lewis said TE Jermaine Gresham is "putting the team on his shoulders."

Lewis is exercising some hyperbole here, but Gresham is certainly playing at a high level in both the blocking and pass-catching game right now. Over the last three weeks, he's averaging 5.0 catches for 64.0 yards with one touchdown and has had another score reversed on replay. Gresham's lack of speed and elusiveness will always be a stumbling block, but he's clearly the No. 2 receiver for Andy Dalton. "He's playing like we expect Jermaine to keep playing; he's doing a great job," Lewis said. "He's really had a good season, and he's getting better each and every week."

Jermaine Gresham caught six passes for 69 yards in the Bengals' Week 11 win over the Chiefs.

Gresham's was inches of an even bigger day. He caught an apparent touchdown pass late in the second quarter, but replays showed his knee came down just inches short of the goal-line. BenJarvus Green-Ellis plunged in from there. Still, this is Gresham's second six-catch game in the last three weeks and he has two touchdowns in his last five games. There's some low-end TE1 value against the Raiders next week.
