Coach Sean Payton confirmed that the Saints aren't looking to bring in a fullback.

Payton was essentially ruling out a return of team leader and fan favorite and free agent Heath Evans. At age 32, we haven't heard a sniff of interest in Evans on the open market. The Saints are moving on with Korey Hall.

Free agent FB Heath Evans says he'd like to play for the Patriots if the Saints don't re-sign him.

"New Orleans is likely the place where I’d like to go back to, with New England second, after that," said Evans, 32. He made a similar statement in February to the Boston Herald. "So much of what we did in New Orleans is a lot like New England," added Evans. "I love Sean Payton because he said, ‘Hell yeah, I want to form my organization after New England.’"

Free agent FB Heath Evans had harsh words for Adrian Peterson after the Pro Bowl running back compared the owners' treatment of players to "modern-day slavery."

"Well first of all, I wish I had the athletic ability of AP's like little finger," said Evans. "But he's an idiot, and what he said was moronic at best." Evans also criticized Antonio Cromartie and Nick Collins for public comments in favor of prospects attending the draft. Evans is right that players speaking out have "hurt" the image of the NFLPA, but his own disparaging remarks aren't helping the unity.

Free agent FB Heath Evans says he will only consider signing with the Saints or Patriots this offseason.

Saying Sean Payton and Bill Belichick are the only two coaches he'd "run through a brick wall for," Evans is not interested in extending his career just for the sake of it at the age of 32. With the Saints likely to rebuild their running game from the ground up this winter, he's unlikely to return as New Orleans' lead blocker in 2011.

Saints FB Heath Evans (torn ACL) is wearing a red non-contact jersey during live drills at OTAs, but is reportedly looking agile.

Evans says he's ready to go full speed right now and expects to be in great shape by training camp. The veteran lead-blocker had just five carries and 10 receptions a year ago.

Saints FB Heath Evans (torn ACL) expects to be 100 percent by the start of training camp.

He plans to run at full speed in 4-6 weeks, and should be ready for full contact by early August. Evans tore his ACL last October, so he's had plenty of time to recover. The 31-year-old, though, is unlikely to touch the ball much.

Saints coach Sean Payton revealed that FB Heath Evans will undergo surgery to repair a torn ACL in his right knee. He'll be placed on season-ending injured reserve.

The Saints' will feel Evans' loss as a lead-blocker, but Pierre Thomas and Mike Bell should remain successful behind the combination of Kyle Eckel, Lynell Hamilton and tight ends David Thomas and Darnell Dinkins. Evans is due $755,000 next season in the final year of his contract.

Saints FB Heath Evans (knee) is likely out for Monday night's game against the Falcons.

Evans left Sunday's win over the Dolphins with a right knee injury. The MRI results are unknown, but general manager Micky Loomis said he's looking at other options "based on the length of time that Heath is out." The Saints could go with a free agent or shift TE David Thomas or RB Lynell Hamilton into the role.

The Saints have provided no update on his status, so we'll have to wait for Thursday's practice reports for an update.

Saints coach Sean Payton shot down talk that fullback Heath Evans was signed to be a short-yardage specialist.

Evans will be an option to pick up tough yards if Pierre Thomas gets hurt, but Thomas' role is secure for now. Evans will focus on being a lead blocker.

Free agent pickup Heath Evans is expected to focus on lead blocking for the Saints.

He is a short-yardage option and can catch, but the Saints appear satisfied with Pierre Thomas at goal-line back. Evans probably won't top 50 touches.

Saints agreed to terms with FB Heath Evans on a two-year contract.

Mike Karney will be released, which means that Evans will move right into the starting lineup. The Saints have been looking for a short-yardage power back, so the well-rounded Evans could be a top goal-line vulture in 2009. He has experience in that role with the Patriots. If Evans takes those responsibilities, Pierre Thomas' fantasy stock would take a big hit.

Free agent FB Heath Evans is scheduled to visit with the Saints on Tuesday.

Coach Sean Payton has talked about getting a short-yardage back to replace Deuce McAllister, and Evans could fill that role in New Orleans.

Free-agent FB Heath Evans indicated he hopes to be back with the Patriots if possible.

"I don’t want to go anywhere," Evans said. "But I’ll let them get all the bigwigs like (Matt) Cassel and all of them squared away. They'll get to me sometime down the road."
