Seahawks waived/injured TE Anthony McCoy.

McCoy suffered a partially torn Achilles' tendon last week. The Seahawks will likely move forward with rookie Luke Willson as Zach Miller's primary backup. McCoy will revert to injured reserve if he clears waivers.
May 28 - 3:07 PM

Seahawks TE Anthony McCoy underwent surgery for a partially torn Achilles' tendon Thursday, and will be sidelined a minimum of six months.

He went down with what was originally believed to be an ankle injury in Monday's practice. McCoy has served as Zach Miller's backup the past two seasons, catching 31 passes for 437 yards. It's an extremely ill-timed injury for McCoy, as the Seahawks used the No. 158 pick on freak-athlete TE Luke Willson. Willson generated buzz in both rookie minicamp and OTAs. While the partial tear -- as opposed to a complete tear like Michael Crabtree's -- could give McCoy a chance to return at midseason, it's unlikely that the Seahawks would go out of their way to save his spot. He could even be waived/injured in camp.

Seahawks TE Anthony McCoy was carted off the field with an ankle injury Monday.

McCoy hurt the ankle coming out of a cut in 7-on-7 drills. The 2010 sixth-round pick has appeared in all 32 games over the last two seasons, catching 31 passes for 437 yards and three scores. An impressive athlete, McCoy can't afford to miss much time after the team drafted a similar player in Luke Willson.

Anthony McCoy (back) did not participate in practice on Wednesday.

McCoy is a new addition to the injury report. Being Seattle's No. 2 tight end, he doesn't offer much short-term fantasy appeal, but he's surely on the radar in Dynasty leagues.

Anthony McCoy's lone catch went for a six-yard touchdown in Seattle's Week 16 win over the 49ers.

The score was McCoy's third of the year, but the target was only his ninth since the Seahawks' Week 9 bye. McCoy remains on the radar in Dynasty formats, but there hasn't been a whole lot to suggest he'll be a redraft-league factor in 2013.

Anthony McCoy caught three passes for 105 yards in the Seahawks' Week 14 win over the Cardinals.

McCoy is certainly an impressive athlete. The 6'5/259 specimen flashed his skills during his first career 100-yard game, getting wide open in the middle of the field and showing plenty of elusiveness. However, McCoy still has seen more than three targets in a game just once all year (Week 2). He's not worth an add in re-draft formats.

Anthony McCoy caught two passes for 23 yards with a touchdown in the Seahawks' Week 12 loss to the Dolphins.

McCoy's touchdown came from three yards out on a crossing pattern in the back of the end zone. Russell Wilson scrambled around long enough to allow his tight end, who lined up split in the slot, to travel the entire width of the field. It's McCoy's second touchdown of the season, but he now has 12 catches in 11 games. He's athletic at 6'5/259, but there aren't enough chances here yet. Ignore.

TE Anthony McCoy had five catches for 41 yards and a touchdown in the Seahawks' Week 2 win over the Cowboys.

With Zach Miller hobbled by a foot injury, McCoy was the primary pass-catching tight end ahead of Evan Moore. The Seahawks' leading receiver in the preseason hauled in all five of his targets en route to the career game. However, waiver-wire hunters should note that McCoy had zero catches on one target in Week 1. He's not a TE2 option yet.

Coach Pete Carroll suggested TE Anthony McCoy's improvement contributed to Kellen Winslow's release.

"This was a great pick for us a couple years back," Carroll said of McCoy. "He's really grown into a versatile tight end for us." McCoy led the Seahawks in receiving this preseason after showing a penchant for dropped passes in his first two years. He's the No. 2 tight end, behind Zach Miller.

Seahawks placed TE Anthony McCoy (knee) on injured reserve, ending his season.

McCoy, a sixth-round rookie, finishes his first season with zero catches in two appearances. He'll be back to compete for a roster spot in 2011, but will remain behind John Carlson and Chris Baker on the depth chart.

Seahawks rookie TE Anthony McCoy has "struggled to catch the ball" in training camp thus far.

McCoy reportedly looked like "the steal of Seattle's draft" in no-contact spring drills, but it's a bad sign for a rookie football player when such a performance doesn't translate in pads. The sixth-round pick is on the roster bubble.

Seahawks signed sixth-round TE Anthony McCoy to a four-year, $1.895 million contract.

McCoy, generally considered a second-day talent, fell to the late rounds due to off-the-field concerns. He'll vie for special teams duty as a rookie while developing behind John Carlson and blocking specialist Chris Baker. He doesn't project as a long-term impact player in fantasy circles.

Seahawks selected USC TE Anthony McCoy with the No. 185 overall pick in the 2010 draft.

McCoy fell due to off-the-field concerns, specifically a positive test for marijuana, but his college coach knows he can play. A converted wide receiver, McCoy has fine all-round skills as a blocker and receiver, but his speed is lacking. He won't have fantasy value behind John Carlson and Chris Baker in Seattle.

USC TE Anthony McCoy is reportedly drawing "strong interest" from the Cowboys, Dolphins, Chiefs, Ravens, Seahawks and Bengals.

Projected to go off the board in the second round, McCoy is notable for his combination of blocking and receiving skills. For fantasy purposes, the Bengals and Chiefs would be best-case scenarios.
