Browns signed CB Joe Haden to a five-year, $68 million contract extension through the 2019 season.
Somewhat coming out of nowhere to close the deal, the Browns have Haden locked up through his age-30 season. Per PFT's Michael David Smith, the deal includes a $14 million signing bonus and $22 million fully guaranteed. Another $23 million is guaranteed for injury. All of the figures surpass Richard Sherman's deal, which is actually a year shorter in length. In terms of annual average, Sherman is still the highest-paid corner. Haden was a top-18 corner at PFF last season. Quarterbacks had a 75.2 passer rating throwing at the former No. 7 overall pick. The Browns got Haden some help this past weekend in the draft, taking CBs Justin Gilbert eighth overall and Pierre Desir in the fourth round. May 13 - 12:27 PM

Extension talks between the Browns and CB Joe Haden are reportedly "proceeding."

Per ESPN Cleveland's Tony Grossi, there are "no worries." The Browns have gobs of cap space and a desire to lock up Haden, who is set to make $6.67 million this season -- the final year of his rookie deal. The 25-year-old (on Monday) could afford to improve his consistency but has flashed true shutdown ability.

NFL Network's Albert Breer confirms extending Joe Haden's contract remains "a top priority" despite the Browns' front-office change.

It's a smart plan because true No. 1 cornerbacks like Haden are hard to find, and the 25-year-old is entering a walk year. Haden could be smart to limit the length of his next deal in hopes of landing a third megacontract just before he turns 30. A three- or four-year deal worth $12 million annually could work well for both sides. Darrelle Revis is getting $16 million a year in Tampa Bay.

NFL Network's Albert Breer reports prior to GM Ray Farmer's promotion, the Browns had planned to extend CB Joe Haden's contract this offseason.

Breer is just reporting that this was ex-GM Mike Lombardi and ex-CEO Joe Banner's plan of attack. Farmer very likely also wants to extend Haden's contract. The soon-to-be 25-year-old is one of the top young shutdown corners in the league and is entering the final year of his rookie deal, which is scheduled to pay Haden a $6.678 million base salary. Whoever gets paid first out of Haden and Cardinals CB Patrick Peterson will likely become the highest-paid corner ever.

Browns LCB Joe Haden (hip) is inactive for Week 17 against the Steelers.

The absence is Haden's first of 2013. It's extremely good news for Antonio Brown, though Brown got the best of Haden when the two squared off in Week 12. Haden enters Week 17 as Pro Football Focus' No. 16 cornerback.

Joe Haden (hip) did not finish Sunday's Week 16 loss to the Jets.

Haden bowed out deep during the fourth quarter due to his hip pointer. "It started getting back to me a little bit," he said. "It was hurting. It was two minutes left. It was time to pretty much not get hurt anymore." Haden will likely sit out the Week 17 finale against the Steelers.

Joe Haden (hip) is active and will start Sunday's Week 16 game against the Jets.

Haden is dealing with a hip pointer and had been listed as questionable on the injury report. He appeared to be moving around well in pregame warm-ups and will likely shadow Santonio Holmes, making him fantasy-irrelevant.

Browns CB Joe Haden (hip pointer) will be a game-time decision in Week 16.

Haden says he'll travel to New Jersey to face the Jets and "wants" to play, but the Browns won't determine his availability before a pre-game workout. The Jets aren't good enough in the passing game to capitalize on Haden's potential absence, and it's worth noting he'd allowed a touchdown in four consecutive weeks before going down. Brandon Marshall beat him last week.

Joe Haden (hip) returned to practice Friday.

Haden had missed the previous two days after exiting last week's loss to the Bears with a hip pointer. His return to the field is a sign he'll try to play against the Jets on Sunday, though they likely wouldn't need him to win.

Joe Haden (hip) is not practicing again Thursday.

Haden was riding the stationary bike while his teammates practiced. He's expected to be a game-time decision against the Jets. The Browns certainly won't rush their top corner with yet another season in the toilet.

Joe Haden (hip) is not practicing Wednesday.

The Browns will see how Haden progresses as the week moves along, but he appears doubtful for the Week 16 game against the Jets. Leon McFadden filled in after Haden sustained his hip pointer last week.
Wed, Dec 18, 2013 11:04:00 AM

Browns CB Joe Haden (hip) said Monday he is not sure whether he'll be able to play in Week 16 against the Jets.

Haden's X-rays came back negative, but his status remains up in the air. Haden has not been playing well lately, anyway, allowing a touchdown pass in four consecutive games, including one to Brandon Marshall in Sunday's loss to the Bears. We'll update Haden's availability again later this week.

The Browns are calling CB Joe Haden's injury a hip pointer.

Per the Cleveland Plain Dealer's Mary Kay Cabot, a "couple guys" in the locker room "sounded like (Haden) might not be back." Whether that's in reference to Haden's Week 16 availability only or his outlook for the final two games is unclear, but losing him would be a huge blow to Cleveland's thin secondary.

Browns CB Joe Haden left Sunday's Week 15 game against the Bears with a hip injury and will not return.

Haden was trying to make a tackle in open field when he got bumped by Bears T Jermon Bushrod. It looked like he took a knee to the hip area. Haden walked under his own power, but went to the locker room and was later ruled out for the day. He's been replaced by Leon McFadden. Before leaving, Haden was getting roasted by Brandon Marshall.

Joe Haden held A.J. Green to a 7/51/0 line on 15 targets in Sunday's Week 4 win over the Bengals.

Haden shadowed Green in man-to-man coverage and won. It's another notch in the belt for a corner quickly becoming one of the most dominant in the league. Haden held Mike Wallace to one catch in Week 1, kept Torrey Smith to 7/85/0 in Week 2 and ate up Greg Jennings (3/43/0) in Week 4. Next on Haden's hit list is Stevie Johnson on Thursday night football this week.
