Bucs RB Antone Smith (knee) is done for the year.
Smith hasn't spent much time in the NFL because he has suffered so many year-ending injuries. In the Bucs' backfield, Smith joins Doug Martin (hamstring), Jacquizz Rodgers (foot), and Charles Sims (knee) on the shelf. Nov 4 - 4:47 PM

Antone Smith rushed five times for 25 yards and secured three-of-four targets for 27 yards Thursday in the Buccaneers' Week 9 loss to the Falcons.

Smith lost an ugly fumble deep in Tampa Bay’s own territory, though the Falcons were only able to get a field goal out of it. He was clearly second fiddle to Peyton Barber, who led the backfield with 15 touches. Even if the Bucs stick with their committee, it doesn’t look like Smith will have much of an impact in fantasy.
Nov 4 - 1:10 AM

Peyton Barber is listed as the Bucs' Week 9 starter at running back.

It's notable, but wouldn't have us running and hiding from Antone Smith. The duo should form a fairly-even committee. Smith will probably have an overall touch edge, but Barber figures to get the first shot at goal-line carries.
Nov 3 - 7:07 PM

ESPN Bucs reporter Jenna Laine considers Antone Smith "more likely to get looks" as the lead member of Tampa Bay's Week 9 backfield committee.

Laine admits this will be a fluid situation, but Smith has a history with coach Dirk Koetter from their days together in Atlanta. And Smith's 4.33 speed figures to get him at least all or most of the pass-game looks. Peyton Barber is built better to run between the tackles, but Smith is likely to get the "start" and handle 10-15 touches. Smith isn't a bad RB3 option in PPR leagues this week, especially with six teams on their bye week. Barber also has appeal in standard formats.

Nov 2 - 12:15 PM

The Tampa Bay Times' Greg Auman expects the Bucs to use "an RB by committee" approach against the Falcons in Week 9.

Doug Martin (hamstring) isn't going to be ready to return, and Jacquizz Rodgers seems unlikely to make the quick turnaround for Thursday night after spraining his foot Sunday. In Rodgers' absence against the Raiders, Antone Smith out-snapped Peyton Barber 22-3. Smith is more of a scat back at 5'9/190, while Barber has the profile of a workhorse back at 5'11/225. But Smith is coach Dirk Koetter's guy from their Atlanta days. Smith is the better PPR bet, while Barber is more likely to handle goal-line work and score a touchdown.
Oct 31 - 6:21 PM

Antone Smith rushed four times for 16 yards in the Bucs' Week 8 loss to the Raiders.

He added a nine-yard reception. Signed 13 days ago, Smith out-touched Peyton Barber 5-1 on an afternoon where Jacquizz Rodgers left late with a foot injury. Per Pro Football Focus, Smith out-snapped Barber 22-3, suggesting he could lead the Bucs' Week 9 backfield if Rodgers isn't ready for Thursday Night Football. Smith wouldn't be more than an RB3 against the Falcons.
Oct 30 - 6:36 PM

Bucs signed RB Antone Smith.

Smith played for coach Dirk Koetter in Atlanta before spending five games with the Bears last season. The home-run threat will take the roster spot of Russell Hansbrough, who was waived Monday.
Oct 17 - 10:20 AM

Jets signed RB Antone Smith.

He takes the roster spot of RB Bernard Piece (hamstring), who was placed on I.R. Smith had a big 2014 for the Falcons, scoring five touchdowns on 39 touches and averaging 6.3 YPC. He got just one carry for the Bears in 2015.
Aug 17 - 9:13 AM

Bears waived RB Antone Smith.

DT D'Anthony Smith was promoted from the practice squad in a corresponding roster move. Signed in early October, Smith ended up notching only one carry in five games. Smith was a lightning change of pace back for the Falcons last season, but evidently isn't the same since breaking his leg. Now on the wrong side of 30, Smith will struggle to find work in 2016.

Bears signed RB Antone Smith.

Smith, who fractured his right leg last season, was released by the Falcons with an injury settlement before Week 1. He was dealing with a hamstring issue. Now 30, Smith has averaged 9.9 yards on his 29 career carries. He's a big-play threat, but injury prone. He'll be the Bears' No. 3 or 4 back behind Matt Forte, Jeremy Langford, and Ka'Deem Carey.

Falcons released RB Antone Smith with an injury settlement.

Smith had been battling a hamstring injury. Smith is a home run hitter, but is nearly 30, and prone to minor injuries. He'll get another chance, but isn't going to be a big part of anyone's backfield.

WSB Atlanta's Zach Klein reports the Falcons are working on an injury settlement with RB Antone Smith (hamstring).

They will place him on injured reserve if the two sides cannot work out a deal. Smith made several big plays last season but could never carve out a consistent role. This is good news for Terron Ward's roster status.

Antone Smith strained his hamstring on a 1-yard touchdown run during the second quarter of Friday's preseason game against the Titans.

With Tevin Coleman and Devonta Freeman both sidelined, Smith was the feature back for the entire first half. The speedster finished with nine carries for 18 yards, but was able to hobble his way around the edge for the score after pulling the hammy. Smith may now fall behind Terron Ward in the battle for the No. 3 RB job.

ESPN Falcons reporter Vaughn McClure called Antone Smith "the forgotten man" in Atlanta's running back rotation.

Rookie Terron Ward has been getting first-team reps ahead of Smith even with Tevin Coleman and Devonta Freeman both out with hamstring injuries. The Falcons have been hesitant to give Smith a full workload since suffering a broken leg in November. The 29-year-old has just 29 carries in three NFL seasons.

Falcons RB Antone Smith (broken leg) has resumed practicing.

Sidelined since November, Smith had been sitting out OTAs until this week. He probably still won't be truly full-go until training camp, but his health is not a concern. A true home-run hitter, there will be a part to play for Smith in new OC Kyle Shanahan's system as a lightly used "COP" back.
