Falcons RB Antone Smith managed ten yards on three carries and caught two passes for -1 yards in Sunday's Week 7 loss at Baltimore.
Although Smith has made a lot of big plays this year, he is not involved enough in Atlanta's offense to be trusted as a week-to-week flex option. Oct 19 - 5:34 PM

Antone Smith caught 4-of-4 targets for 64 yards and a touchdown in Atlanta's Week 6 loss to the Bears, adding two rushes for five yards.

Smith now has scores in four straight games. The six touches were Smith's most of the season, but we still wouldn't say coach Mike Smith followed through on his pledge to get Smith more involved. Smith displayed electrifying speed on his 41-yard catch and run for a touchdown early in the third quarter, but he got the rock just three more times (for 29 yards, of course) thereafter as the Falcons struggled to get anything going on offense. Until Mike Smith gets serious about utilizing one of his most dangerous players, Antone Smith will remain little more than a dart throw RB3.
Oct 12 - 8:03 PM

Speaking Monday, Falcons coach Mike Smith admitted RB Antone Smith deserves more touches.

All Smith has done this season is average 16.3 yards on his 17 touches, scoring four touchdowns. Smith was similarly explosive in 2013, so it's unclear why it's taken the Falcons so long to realize the obvious. Despite his big-play potential, Smith is nothing more than an RB4/5 for fantasy purposes. We don't trust the Falcons to increase his reps enough.
Oct 6 - 2:47 PM

Falcons RB Antone Smith broke off a 74-yard touchdown catch and run in Atlanta's Week 5 loss to the Giants.

Unfortunately, he finished with only one carry for two yards and three receptions (3-81-1). Falcons coach Mike Smith did concede after the game that Smith deserves to be more involved, but to this point Atlanta has utilized a maddening four-back rotation of Smith, Steven Jackson, Devonta Freeman, and Quizz Rodgers. Despite his impressive TD rate, Smith can't be trusted in fantasy until we see evidence that he's getting more usage. Smith ran 4.33 at his Pro Day coming out of Florida State and runs with incredible strength for his 5-foot-8, 190-pound build.
Oct 5 - 5:01 PM

Antone Smith rushed for 62 yards and one touchdown on four carries in the Falcons' Week 4 loss to the Vikings.

Smith continues to be a big play threat. After scoring 38- and 54-yard touchdowns already this season, Smith took one of his carries 48 yards to the house in this one. Smith has the most burst in the Atlanta backfield, but he's merely a change of pace in this committee attack. He's not on the radar in 12-team leagues.
Sep 28 - 8:13 PM

Antone Smith (hamstring) is practicing in full for Week 4.

The big-play threat will be good to go as the third wheel in Atlanta's running-back committee against the Vikings.
Sep 25 - 3:40 PM

Falcons RB Antone Smith (hamstring) is practicing Wednesday.

Smith missed Monday's session, but it was just precautionary. He'll be a change-of-pace back behind Steven Jackson this week against the Vikings.
Sep 24 - 1:38 PM

Falcons RB Antone Smith was held out of Monday's practice with a hamstring injury.

It was just an informal session with the Falcons coming off Thursday Night Football. Smith wasn't announced with an injury against the Bucs. He should be considered day to day, and likely to serve in his reserve change-of-pace role for Week 4.
Sep 22 - 2:42 PM

Antone Smith rushed four times for 50 yards and a touchdown in Atlanta's Week 3 win over the Bucs, also losing a fumble.

Smith's score was one of his patented big plays, as he rushed 38 yards through a tired and miserable Bucs defense to put the Falcons up 56-0 in the fourth quarter. He found the hole, then the edge and was off to the races. Smith's fumble came at the Bucs' one-yard line the end of a shifty 10-yard scamper in the second quarter. Smith has proven time and again he's worthy of more work as a change-of-pace back, but the Falcons don't appear ready to give it to him. That keeps him off the radar in 12-14 team leagues.
Sep 19 - 12:15 AM

Antone Smith rushed two times for seven yards and caught a 54-yard touchdown pass against the Saints Week 1.

Smith broke several Saints' tackles on his way to the 54-yard score in the third quarter. It was another reminder that Smith can take it to the house any time he touches the ball. Despite his big play ability, Smith's lack of touches keeps him well off the fantasy radar.
Sep 7 - 5:14 PM

Antone Smith rushed four times for four yards in Saturday's preseason game against the Falcons.

Smith once again played ahead of Devonta Freeman, rotating in as the second back behind Steven Jackson. It's not a position we'd expect him to hold and he may not even dress on Sundays in the regular season. S-Jax is going to start, Jacquizz Rodgers is the trusted COP back and Freeman is the developing rookie. In three preseason games, Smith rushed 15 times for just 36 yards.
Aug 23 - 9:43 PM

Antone Smith was the second running back through Atlanta's rotation in Friday night's preseason opener against the Dolphins.

He finished with five yards on three carries and a five-yard reception. Smith's biggest play -- an 81-yard TD run -- was negated by penalty, but he showed some Sprolesian ability while getting reps ahead of ballyhooed rookie Devonta Freeman. Smith saw action with both the first- and second-team offenses, sharing time with Quizz Rodgers initially and staying in with the T.J. Yates group. We'd still expect Freeman to bypass Smith on the depth chart eventually.
Aug 8 - 9:06 PM

Falcons RB Antone Smith (knee) is listed as questionable for Week 16.

Smith returned to practice this week after sitting out last Sunday's win over the Redskins. He'll see limited carries as the Falcons' No. 4 running back and contribute on special teams if active for Monday night's game against the 49ers.
Sat, Dec 21, 2013 01:43:00 PM

Falcons RB Antone Smith (knee) is out for Week 15.

Smith is a change-of-pace back and special teamer.
Fri, Dec 13, 2013 01:02:00 PM

Antone Smith (knee) isn't practicing for Week 15.

The Falcons' No. 4 running back appears unlikely to suit up for Sunday's game against the Redskins.
