49ers coach Jim Tomsula said the team could limit ILB Navorro Bowman's snaps moving forward.
"In the passing downs and things like that … but we don’t want him off the field, you know what I mean?" Tomsula said. "Yeah, we’re looking at those things. We’re looking at monitoring reps." Bowman has been his dominating self in the run game, but he has struggled dropping into coverage. Gerald Hodges, who the 49ers recently acquired via trade, is solid in coverage and could spell Bowman on passing downs. Oct 15 - 10:12 AM

49ers ILB Navorro Bowman recorded three tackles in three snaps against the Cowboys on Sunday.

"It felt great," Bowman said. "Just getting back out there, seeing the fans. The crowd really got me going. I missed it." Bowman showed some of his trademark athleticism running down Lance Dunbar on a swing pass early in the game. After losing several huge pieces this offseason, the 49ers need Bowman back at his All-Pro form.

49ers ILB Navorro Bowman (knee) will not play in Saturday's preseason opener.

Coach Jim Tomsula expected Bowman to play, but he'll be held out for one more week. Bowman should return for the 49ers' second preseason game.
Aug 15 - 6:47 PM

49ers ILB Navorro Bowman will be active for Saturday's preseason opener.

It will be Bowman's first live action since he tore up his knee in the 2014 NFC Championship Game. It's a rare sliver of good news for a team that's watched an otherworldly amount of talent go out the door this offseason. Bowman will likely only play a series or two on Saturday, but he's locked and loaded for Week 1.
Aug 11 - 7:31 PM

49ers ILB Navorro Bowman avoided active/PUP to open training camp.

Bowman conceded during OTAs that the knee injury that cost him all of 2014 still gives him problems, but the 49ers' staff is confident in Bowman's potential to bounce back. If Bowman's health indeed holds up, he'll be an IDP monster in the middle of San Francisco's now-Patrick Willis-less defense.
Aug 1 - 8:39 PM

Although 49ers ILB Navorro Bowman is participating in OTA practices, he acknowledges his surgically repaired knee still gives him problems.

He's wearing a bulky brace after missing all of 2014 with multiple knee ligament tears. "The knee will get to where it needs to be, maybe not as fast as you guys expect," Bowman told reporters. "... It hasn’t been consistent. I go out there some days and I feel great and some days I have to fight through it. That’s part of the process. I understand that. But mentally, it messes with me sometimes." The 49ers can't count on Bowman to rediscover All-Pro form in his first season back.
May 29 - 8:59 PM

49ers ILB Navorro Bowman (knee) is participating in voluntary minicamp.

Bowman didn't practice with the 49ers at all last year, spending the first six weeks on PUP before reverting to I.R. He hasn't reported any setbacks to this point and should be full-go for training camp. After losing Patrick Willis and Chris Borland to retirement, the 49ers are hoping Bowman can return to his pre-injury form.
Apr 29 - 4:39 PM

Coach Jim Tomsula said Friday he expects ILB Navorro Bowman (knee surgery) to be on the field for the 49ers' pre-draft minicamp.

The 49ers hold their first minicamp in the last week before the NFL draft. Bowman missed all of last season after tearing multiple knee ligaments, and it's unclear whether he'll return as the same All-Pro player he was pre-injury. The 49ers will certainly hope so after losing Pat Willis and Chris Borland to retirement.
Apr 10 - 3:49 PM

Coach Jim Tomsula and GM Trent Baalke both said ILB Navorro Bowman's (knee surgery) rehab is going "real well."

Bowman hasn't played a snap in roughly 15 months after wrecking his knee in the 2013 NFC Championship game. It continues to sound like he's on pace to be ready for the start of training camp. And with ILBs Patrick Willis and Chris Borland suddenly retiring, the 49ers badly need a healthy Bowman.
Mar 25 - 2:36 PM

49ers GM Trent Baalke said a setback did not factor into the team's decision to hold ILB Navorro Bowman out for the entire 2015 season.

After shredding his knee in the 2013-14 NFC title game, it was always unlikely Bowman would suit up in 2014. Now more than a full year removed from the injury, Bowman is inching closer to 100 percent. "I think he feels good," Baalke said. "He’s really starting to feel like it’s coming back to where he wants it. And that’s always the most important thing." Bowman should be ready for camp.
Mar 13 - 10:46 PM

49ers ILB Navorro Bowman (knee) is fully expected to be ready for the start of training camp.

It's been about 13 months since Bowman underwent surgery to repair the ACL/MCL tears he sustained in the 2013-14 NFC Championship Game. He has not played since. Turning 27 in May, Bowman is under contract through 2018.
Mar 2 - 8:30 AM

49ers placed ILB Navorro Bowman (knee) on injured reserve, ending his season.

The 49ers activated Bowman from the PUP list earlier in the week, but he was never expected to return. Bowman should be close to 100 percent for 2015 training camp.

49ers activated ILB Navorro Bowman (knee surgery) from the reserve/PUP list.

It's a bit of a surprise, as ESPN's Ed Werder reported Tuesday morning that Bowman was not expecting to play this season. However, CSN Bay Area reports there's "no guarantee" he'll appear in a game, and projects him among the 49ers' seven inactive players for Week 15. Still recovering from the torn left ACL and MCL he suffered in last season's NFC Championship Game, Bowman has yet to resume practicing. Despite the "activation," there's a good chance Bowman finishes 2014 on the sideline.

49ers ILB Navorro Bowman (knee, PUP) is not expecting to play this season.

Bowman's recovery from the ACL and MCL tear he sustained last January has not gone smoothly. With the 49ers all but eliminated from the playoffs, there's no reason to rush it. Bowman should be close to 100 percent for 2015 training camp.
Tue, Dec 9, 2014 09:14:00 AM

49ers ILB Navorro Bowman (knee, PUP) has still not resumed practicing.

Bowman has not had any setbacks as he comes off ACL and MCL surgery sustained last January. But he's still not feeling right and it's unclear when he'll return to action. The 49ers have until Dec. 9 to decide whether to put Bowman on their active roster or keep him on PUP for the rest of the season.
