49ers coach Kyle Shanahan expects ILB Navorro Bowman (Achilles') to be cleared for on-field work in two weeks.

That's still just a baby step, but Bowman is tentatively on track for Week 1. Going on 29 with serious knee and Achilles' injuries to his name, Bowman could be held out for the entire preseason even if he's cleared. Bowman is not the player he was before his physical setbacks.

The Sacramento Bee expects ILB Navorro Bowman (Achilles') to be ready for the start of the season.

Bowman is four months removed from tearing his Achilles. He's expected resume running soon. Bowman should miss the entire offseason and will be in a race to get cleared for training camp. He'll need to avoid setbacks to be ready for Week 1.

49ers ILB Navorro Bowman says the rehab from his torn Achilles' tendon has been going smoothly.

Bowman said the process has been much easier than the rehab from his 2014 knee injury. "(I’m) not spending those long hours warming up, trying to get my workout in," Bowman said. "It’s definitely more easy to deal with than my knee. I can definitely see a positive light at the end of the tunnel." Despite the positive words, Bowman should still be considered questionable for the beginning of training camp. Going on 29, Bowman hasn't been the same since completely shredding his left knee in the 2014 NFC Championship Game.

49ers ILB Navorro Bowman (Achilles') plans to resume running in a month.

The inside linebacker tore his Achilles' on October 2. Bowman, who says his recovery is "looking good," has been running in a hydrotherapy pool. He will be in a race to be ready for training camp.

The 49ers confirmed Monday that ILB Navorro Bowman is done for the year with a torn Achilles' tendon.

They are also likely to be without DE DeForest Buckner (foot) for an extended period of time. Bowman is the 49ers' defensive leader and top interior run stopper, and is loss is unlikely to be something San Francisco's defense can rally back from. Bowman has now torn his ACL/MCL and his Achilles' over the past four seasons. The 49ers owe him $7.5 million in salary and bonuses for 2017.

The 49ers fear that ILB Navorro Bowman tore his Achilles' in Sunday's loss to the Cowboys.

Bowman grabbed at his Achilles' when he went down with Sunday's non-contact injury. His season is almost certainly over. The 49ers scheduled a Monday MRI to make sure. Bowman's loss will deal a devastating blow to San Francisco's defense.

49ers ILB Navorro Bowman was carted off the field after suffering a non-contact lower-leg injury in Sunday's game versus Dallas.

It's a huge loss for San Francisco, which plays on a short week Thursday night against the Cardinals. Bowman was limping badly, had his shoe removed by trainers on the sideline, and eventually made his way into the locker room on the cart. Bowman has struggled in pass coverage since tearing his ACL and MCL in 2013, but he is the 49ers' best run stopper. Zeke Elliott has begun to eat.

49ers re-signed ILB Navorro Bowman to a seven-year, $77 million contract with $20 million guaranteed.

Already signed through 2019, the 49ers ripped up Bowman's old deal and gave him a new one that takes Bowman through 2022 -- his age-34 campaign. He won't be free-agent eligible again until he's 35. It's a lengthy commitment to an inside linebacker, one who missed all of 2014 with multiple torn knee ligaments then returned for a disappointing 2015 despite gaudy tackle stats. Bowman played the run well but finished as PFF's No. 57 inside linebacker in pass coverage among 60 qualifiers. The 49ers are banking 28-year-old Bowman's agility and quickness return another full year removed from the ACL/MCL tear.

49ers ILB Navorro Bowman isn't worried about the effect Chip Kelly's offense will have on the team's defense.

Kelly's fast-paced offense doesn't give defenses much time to recover but Bowman said that's never been a part of his thought process. "I think people are blowing it out of proportion," he said. "I think any defense you play in, if your offense is getting off the field quicker than you gotta get off the field quicker. You gotta hold yourself to that standard." Bowman led the NFL with 154 tackles this season despite receiving a negative grade from Pro Football Focus.

49ers coach Jim Tomsula said the team could limit ILB Navorro Bowman's snaps moving forward.

"In the passing downs and things like that … but we don’t want him off the field, you know what I mean?" Tomsula said. "Yeah, we’re looking at those things. We’re looking at monitoring reps." Bowman has been his dominating self in the run game, but he has struggled dropping into coverage. Gerald Hodges, who the 49ers recently acquired via trade, is solid in coverage and could spell Bowman on passing downs.

49ers ILB Navorro Bowman recorded three tackles in three snaps against the Cowboys on Sunday.

"It felt great," Bowman said. "Just getting back out there, seeing the fans. The crowd really got me going. I missed it." Bowman showed some of his trademark athleticism running down Lance Dunbar on a swing pass early in the game. After losing several huge pieces this offseason, the 49ers need Bowman back at his All-Pro form.

49ers ILB Navorro Bowman will be active for Saturday's preseason opener.

It will be Bowman's first live action since he tore up his knee in the 2014 NFC Championship Game. It's a rare sliver of good news for a team that's watched an otherworldly amount of talent go out the door this offseason. Bowman will likely only play a series or two on Saturday, but he's locked and loaded for Week 1.

49ers ILB Navorro Bowman avoided active/PUP to open training camp.

Bowman conceded during OTAs that the knee injury that cost him all of 2014 still gives him problems, but the 49ers' staff is confident in Bowman's potential to bounce back. If Bowman's health indeed holds up, he'll be an IDP monster in the middle of San Francisco's now-Patrick Willis-less defense.
