New Raiders DC Paul Guenther hopes the team re-signs impending free agent MLB Navorro Bowman.
Bowman joined the Raiders in Week 7 following his release from the 49ers and started the final 10 games. He received real strong marks from Pro Football Focus for his run defense. Bowman turns 30 this offseason and likely won't have a ton of offers at his age. We'd bet he'd welcome a return to Oakland. Jan 17 - 2:24 PM

Raiders ILB Navorro Bowman is active for Week 7 against the Chiefs.

With starting LBs Cory James and Marquel Lee inactive, Bowman could see heavy snaps right off the bat. Also inactive for the Raiders are DE Jihad Ward, OT Jylan Ware, QB Connor Cook, CB Gareon Conley and RT Marshall Newhouse.

Raiders coach Jack Del Rio said newly-signed ILB Navorro Bowman "probably" will play against the Chiefs on Thursday night.

Bowman just signed on Monday, but the Raiders will take any help they can get at linebacker. "He’s a veteran. He understands ball," Del Rio said. "Even though it’s a short week, we feel good he’ll play." A liability in coverage at this point in his career, Bowman may not be the impact signing his resume would suggest, but he is still an upgrade.

Raiders signed ILB Navorro Bowman, formerly of the 49ers, to a one-year, $3 million contract.

He never even made it to Dallas. Still a useful run defender, Bowman will add toughness to a weak Oakland inside linebacker corps. He is a liability in pass coverage, however, and had been losing passing-down snaps before the 49ers released him. The Raiders play on Thursday Night Football this week, but we wouldn't be surprised to see Bowman log significant snaps right away.

Free agent LB Navorro Bowman is scheduled to visit the Raiders and Cowboys this week.

They're Bowman's first-known visits since he was cut loose on Friday. He's expected to find a new team in short order, perhaps by Monday afternoon.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports free agent ILB Navorro Bowman and the Raiders "have strong mutual interest."

The match makes sense. Linebacker has been a weak point in Oakland's defense so far this season, and signing with the Raiders would allow Bowman to remain in the Bay Area, at least for now. Rapoport reports the two sides are expected to meet "in the coming days." New England is another destination which makes sense on paper, and ESPN's Adam Schefter reports the 49ers had a deal in place with the Saints before deciding to release Bowman.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports free agent ILB Navorro Bowman is expected to sign with a new team "no later than Monday."

It is not a surprise considering the 49ers said several teams were interested in a trade before they decided to release the linebacker on Friday. The Raiders and Patriots are two contenders who could use some help at linebacker.

Profootballtalk reports free agent ILB NaVorro Bowman is expected to collect termination pay.

It's notable because it means Bowman likely won't be signing for the veteran mimimum. The 49ers took a massive cap hit to move on from Bowman, eating the remaining of his $6.75 million salary and $4.77 million in dead money. Bowman is Rosenhaus-backed, so he should resurface, but injuries have his post-2017 future in doubt.

49ers released ILB NaVorro Bowman.

We knew something was brewing when a report surfaced the 49ers were shopping Bowman. His contract made him impossible to trade, so the Niners are swallowing his entire $6.75 million salary and $4.7 million in dead money next year, a sign they obviously feel Bowman is over the hill. A four-time All-Pro selection, Bowman shouldn't take long to resurface.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports the 49ers are shopping ILB Navorro Bowman.

Bowman wasn't pleased about playing fewer snaps than usual in last week's loss to the Colts and could be on his way out in San Francisco. Per Schefter, a number of teams have already showed interest in Bowman, who has been with the Niners since 2010. The trade deadline is October 31 at 4 PM ET.

49ers ILB Navorro Bowman (Achilles') is "full speed" for training camp.

Bowman is roughly 10 months removed from blowing out his Achilles' tendon. Bowman is "full speed" from a participation perspective, but reportedly looked slow in OTAs. He's suffered two devastating injuries since Jan. 2014. Bowman turned 29 in May. Despite all that, he appears set to collect his entire $6.75 million salary this season.

The Santa Rosa Press Democrat expects the 49ers to cut ILB Navorro Bowman.

Bowman (Achilles) is trying to return from his second major injury in the last three years. He’s been full-go at OTAs, but has reportedly looked slow in coverage and "couldn’t even keep up" with blocking TE Garrett Celek. The 49ers denied shopping Bowman this offseason, but drafted his replacement in Reuben Foster. Signed through 2022, releasing Bowman would leave $10.9 million in dead money.
Fri, Jun 2, 2017 07:04:00 PM reports ILB Navorro Bowman (Achilles') has been "full-speed" during the offseason program.

There were similar reports during April minicamp. Bowman went down last Week 4. Reuben Foster, Malcolm Smith and Brock Coyle have all been added to the 49ers' linebacker corps since the end of last season, but as long as his health cooperates, 29-year-old Bowman should be something resembling a starter.

In a joint statement, 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan and GM John Lynch have vehemently denied they're shopping ILB Navorro Bowman.

The duo labeled Mike Lombardi's report "completely false," and called Bowman a "consummate professional." The new guys are clearly sensitive to anything that might upset a team leader in Bowman. Even were the 49ers attempting to trade Bowman, they'd have zero takers on a soon-to-be 29 year old who is coming off a torn Achilles' after completely shredding his knee in early 2014. Bowman is also due $7.5 million in salary and bonuses this year.
Thu, May 11, 2017 01:16:00 PM

The Ringer's Mike Lombardi reports the 49ers have "made it known" ILB Navorro Bowman is available for trade.

He may be "available," but no team is going to trade for Bowman's contract. He signed a seven-year, $77 million deal last August and promptly tore his Achilles' in October. The 49ers have let it be known that Bowman is on track in his recovery, but he's suffered two major leg injuries in three years. Bowman turns 29 this month, and San Fran is switching to a 4-3 front.
