Dolphins SS Reshad Jones (shoulder) will miss the remainder of the season.
It's now been confirmed after Jones was seeking a second opinion on his torn rotator cuff. It's a huge loss for the Dolphins' defense after Jones was Pro Football Focus' No. 3 safety last season, finishing No. 1 in run defense. Through six weeks this season, Jones was again PFF's No. 3 safety. Michael Thomas and Walt Aikens are next up. LeSean McCoy gets a big Week 7 boost. Oct 19 - 11:15 AM

According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, the Dolphins "fear" SS Reshad Jones suffered a torn rotator cuff.

Eric Decker suffered the same injury a few weeks ago and is now out for the season. A similar fate may await Jones, who was already dealing with a groin injury when he hurt his shoulder in Week 6. Through six games, Jones holds PFF's third-highest safety grade out of 86 qualifiers. It would be a huge blow to a Dolphins' secondary that is already running on fumes.
Oct 17 - 4:25 PM

Dolphins coach Adam Gase said SS Reshad Jones (groin) will be a game-time decision Week 6 against the Steelers.

Jones sustained a groin injury early this week and was not able to practice Wednesday. Easily the best player in the secondary, Jones' absence would seriously weaken an already struggling unit. Ben Roethlisberger and company should have a field day Sunday.

Dolphins SS Reshad Jones said he won't hold out of training camp after reporting to minicamp Wednesday.

Jones wants a new contract, but doesn't "want to be a distraction" any longer. The Dolphins likely promised Jones they'd work with him on getting him more guaranteed money on his deal if he showed up for minicamp.
Jun 15 - 12:22 PM

Dolphins SS Reshad Jones reported for Day 2 of Miami's three-day minicamp Wednesday.

Up until now, Jones had been skipping the entire offseason program, including the first day of mandatory minicamp on Tuesday. It resulted in a fine, but owner Stephen Ross got into the mix, and Jones has now decided to show. With two years left on a four-year, $30 million extension, the sides are again expected to try and renegotiate and add more guaranteed money onto it.
Jun 15 - 9:00 AM

The Miami Herald reports "both sides want to work toward an amicable end" in SS Reshad Jones' contract dispute.

Per reporter Armando Salguero, both sides are keen to avoid public drama, and are "reticent about anything that might upset this process." Salguero doesn't mention any potential solutions. Jones is one of the league's top performers at his position, but still has two years remaining on his deal. It's possible he ends up with more guaranteed money, but no new overall cash.
Jun 14 - 5:01 PM

Dolphins SS Reshad Jones will be a no-show for mandatory minicamp.

It's no secret Jones wants a raise. With two years left on his deal, the Dolphins have little incentive to meet his demands. Jones will be subject to over $70,000 in fines if he skips minicamp and would lose around $400,000 per game if his holdout lasts into the season. Beat reporter Adam Beasley said the sense around the league is that Jones "badly misplayed his hand." We're guessing the 28-year-old will come to his senses and report at some point.
Jun 13 - 11:21 AM

Dolphins SS Reshad Jones is not participating at OTAs.

Jones plans to skip the entire offseason. His holdout could carry into mandatory camp despite having two years and $14.285 million remaining on his deal. Already one of the highest-paid safeties, Jones wants an extension closer to $10M-plus annually.
May 28 - 6:12 PM

The Miami Herald reports disgruntled Dolphins SS Reshad Jones wants $10-$11 million per year in a new contract.

That won't be happening. Due $14.285 million over the next two seasons, Jones is already one of the highest-paid safeties in football. He still has half a four-year contract to go. The Dolphins are arguably the worst team in the league at evaluating their own talent, but they'll probably hold firm with Jones' contract until at least training camp.
Apr 26 - 4:01 PM

The Miami Herald's Armando Salguero reports Dolphins S Reshad Jones plans to hold out of offseason activities until his contract is addressed.

He is not at the team's voluntary minicamp this week. Jones is one of the better safeties in the league, but he is already paid like it. Only three safeties are scheduled to make more than his $7.225 million base this season, and one of those is franchise-tagged Chief Eric Berry. Jones could be looking for more long-term security with just two years left on his deal, but this is a surprisingly hardline stance. It will be interesting to see how the Dolphins react.

Dolphins S Reshad Jones is active for Week 2 against the Jaguars.

He returned to a limited practice Thursday after missing Wednesday's session because of a hamstring injury. Jones received PFF's sixth highest safety grade in Week 1.

Dolphins S Reshad Jones (hamstring) was limited in practice on Thursday.

After missing practice on Wednesday, Jones got on the field in a limited fashion on Thursday. He's now been upgraded to questionable for Sunday's clash with Jacksonville. Our IDP Maven Ross Miles is unperturbed by his injury status and has Jones ranked as the No.1 fantasy defensive back in Week 2, after he notched up 12 total tackles last week.

Dolphins activated S Reshad Jones from the reserve/suspended list.

Jones will slide back in as the Dolphins' starting strong safety, sending fill-in Jimmy Wilson back to the nickel/bench. An every-down player, Jones led all safeties in snaps last season, racking up 107 tackles, 1.5 sacks and one pick.

NFL suspended Dolphins SS Reshad Jones four games for violating the league's policy against performance enhancing drugs.

He'll join DE Dion Jordan on the sidelines for the first month. (Jordan was popped for the same infraction.) Jones' loss is a big blow to the back end of Miami's defense, where he is an every-down player and excels in run support. "I worked closely with the union to investigate what happened, and I learned that a supplement I took caused the positive test," said Jones in a statement. "I deeply regret not investigating the supplement carefully before I took it, and I will never again take a supplement without having it checked." The Fins figure to turn to CB/S Jimmy Wilson at strong safety for the first four games.

Dolphins signed SS Reshad Jones to a four-year, $30 million contract.

Jones had planned to skip spring OTAs because he was upset he wasn't part of GM Jeff Ireland's spending spree. He ended up reporting, and Ireland promised Jones "eventual" contract discussions. The 2010 fifth-rounder had one year left on his rookie deal at $1.323 million, but he's now the fifth highest-paid safety in the league at $7.5 million annually. Jones graded out as Pro Football Focus' No. 3 safety in 2012. It's a rare diligent commitment by the Dolphins, locking up their own talent. Jones is only 25 years old.
