Dolphins SS Reshad Jones will report to OTAs on Tuesday in exchange for contract extension talks "eventually."
Jones was a no-show at the facility on Monday, but OTAs don't start until Tuesday. He'll be in attendance after his agent and GM Jeff Ireland spoke "several times" late into Monday evening. Ireland reportedly promised "eventual" contract talks, but it's unclear what "eventual" means. If talks don't start prior to training camp, Jones loses any leverage he had. The 25-year-old has one year left on his rookie deal at $1.323 million. May 21 - 8:22 AM

A source close to Dolphins SS Reshad Jones confirmed Jones is skipping OTAs due to displeasure with his contract.

The source says Jones won't report to any of the Fins' upcoming three OTA practices "unless contract talks begin." The Dolphins are also missing Randy Starks, who signed his one-year franchise tender but would prefer a long-term commitment. Starks will be back by training camp. The Fins' bigger problem is Jones, who clearly has a bone to pick after GM Jeff Ireland spent over $200 million in max contractual worth this offseason, and didn't include him.
May 20 - 3:43 PM

Dolphins SS Reshad Jones was a no-show for the start of OTAs Monday, and the team spent "much of the morning" attempting to locate him.

Miami Herald reporter Armando Salguero passes along "speculation" among teammates that Jones -- entering a contract year -- is "unsatisfied" with the progress of long-term extension talks with the Dolphins. GM Jeff Ireland spent more money than any front-office executive in the NFL this offseason, so Jones understandably feels snubbed after a breakout 2012 season. It's an inherent risk with free-agency building, as the Fins did. Locker-room turmoil is near inevitable.

The Palm Beach Post also expects the Dolphins to try and sign SS Reshad Jones to a contract extension.

The Miami Herald thought the same thing earlier in the month. Jones turns 25 next month and is entering the final year of his rookie deal, which pays $1.323 million. He started all 16 games in 2012 and finished fourth on the team with 95 tackles. Jones is a solid building block after being a fifth-round pick in 2010.
Jan 31 - 1:52 PM

Dolphins SS Reshad Jones' base salary will be up from $575,000 to $1.323 million in 2013 after he hit escalators in his rookie contract.

Jones was a standout player in 2012, starting all 16 games and recording 95 tackles, nine passes defensed, and four interceptions. Jones, in his third year out of Georgia, graded out as Pro Football Focus' No. 3 safety for the year, just behind Eric Weddle and Jairus Byrd. The Miami Herald reported earlier this month that the Dolphins are working on locking Jones up this offseason. He has one year left on his deal.
Jan 30 - 5:02 PM

The Miami Herald reports that the Dolphins are currently trying to sign SS Reshad Jones to a contract extension.

Jones turns 25 in February and is entering the final year of his rookie deal. He emerged as a legit top-five safety in 2012, grading out third in Pro Football Focus' ratings behind only Eric Weddle and Jairus Byrd. Jones is a building block for Kevin Coyle's defense. We'd expect him to target a deal similar to that of Raiders SS Tyvon Branch, who inked a four-year, $26.6 million contract last offseason. Branch's deal contains $17.6 million guaranteed.
Jan 12 - 4:07 PM

Dolphins SS Reshad Jones led the team with 14 tackles (11 solo) while making several key third-down stops at Buffalo in Week 11.

Pro Football Focus credits Jones with an incredible eight stops (any tackle that prevents a successful offensive play), doubling his season total. He also forced a pair of fumbles. Under new DC Kevin Coyle, Jones has flown under the radar as a Pro Bowl caliber player this season, excelling in coverage as well as run support.

Dolphins FS Reshad Jones "solidified" a starting job during OTAs.

Jones will man free safety, while Chris Clemons tries to hold off converted CB Jimmy Wilson at strong safety. Per the Miami Herald, Jones had four INTs during June practices, including a pick-six of Ryan Tannehill. A 12-game starter in 2011, the 24-year-old Jones racked up 67 tackles and two sacks.

Reshad Jones expects to play both safety positions in the Dolphins' new defense.

Jones spent the majority of OTAs at free safety after starting 12 games there last season. "I’m interchangeable," Jones said. "I can play either one. The safeties are just more active now (in new DC Kevin Coyle's scheme). ... More area to cover." Even if he's shifted around during the season, Jones will open camp at free safety, with Chris Clemons manning strong safety.

Reshad Jones is penciled in as the Dolphins' starting free safety.

Jones split time with with Tyrone Culver last season, compiling 60 tackles and two sacks in his 12 starts. But even if Jones does win the full-time job this season, there's more IDP upside at the strong safety spot currently held by Chris Clemons. Yeremiah Bell had 107 tackles out of that position last season.

FS Reshad Jones is expected to start Thursday's game against the Cowboys.

Jones sustained a knee injury back on Oct. 17 and Tyrone Culver filled in well enough to make this a competition. But Jones started last week's win over the Bills and is now locked in going forward. In six starts this season, Jones has 37 tackles and one sack.

Dolphins FS Reshad Jones suffered a right knee injury in Week 6 against the Jets.

Jones has yet to practice this week while Chris Clemons (hamstring) has returned. Tyrone Culver is tentatively penciled in as the Week 7 starter.
Fri, Oct 21, 2011 12:23:00 PM

Dolphins FS Reshad Jones is in line to start over Chris Clemons against the Patriots on Monday.

Clemons has been limited in practice this week with a leg injury. Jones was expected to challenge Clemons as a rookie last season, but was instead largely relegated to special teams. He started the Dolphins' final two preseason games, however, and could become a fixture in Miami's secondary if he gets off to a strong start.

Reshad Jones is starting in place of Chris Clemons at free safety in Miami's third preseason game on Saturday.

Clemons was thought to be far ahead of Jones as recently as last week, but this is a pretty strong indication that the Dolphins currently view Jones as their starter. A fifth-round pick last year, Jones mostly played special teams as a rookie.

Reshad Jones is now running as the "clear No. 2" free safety at Dolphins training camp.

Jones was given a shot with the starters in a scrimmage two weeks ago, but he's now firmly behind Chris Clemons. A fifth-round pick in 2010, Jones will focus on special teams this season. He had eight tackles there last year.
