Ravens waived CB Dominique Franks.
It could be a sign the Ravens are optimistic about Jimmy Smith's (foot) health, but more than likely it's not. Franks' release is surprising after he played 63-of-72 snaps in Sunday's loss to the Steelers, but less so when you consider that he was burned repeatedly. Franks' roster spot has been taken by fellow veteran corner Danny Gorrer. Tue, Nov 4, 2014 05:40:00 PM

Ravens released CB Dominique Franks.

Franks was competing for a role in sub-packages and chipping in on special teams. The Ravens signed fellow veteran Derek Cox this past week. The Ravens are looking for the right combo behind Lardarius Webb and Jimmy Smith.

Ravens signed CB Dominique Franks.

Franks appeared in all 16 games for the Falcons last season, but was limited to 13 snaps on defense. Going on 27, he'll try to crack the Ravens' 53-man roster as a core special teamer, but is likely just a camp body.

Falcons re-signed CB Dominique Franks.

Franks was waived by the Falcons at final cuts and proceeded to work out for the Chiefs, Dolphins and Steelers. He ends up back in Atlanta as a potential returner and corner depth.

Free agent CB Dominique Franks worked out for the Chiefs and Steelers.

Franks has also worked out for the Dolphins since his release from the Falcons. The only thing preventing Franks from finding a new home before Week 1 could be the fact that contracts signed before Sunday must be guaranteed for the entire season. Franks should be employed this time next week.

Free agent CB Dominique Franks visited the Dolphins.

It appears Franks left without a contract, but he'd be a logical signing for a team rebuilding its secondary from the ground up. Franks appeared in 14 games (four starts) for the Falcons last season, making 15 tackles and two picks.

Falcons released or waived CB Dominique Franks, WR Drew Davis, LB Pat Schiller, LB Rico Council, C Tyler Horn, T Bryce Harris, TE LaMark Brown, LB Spencer Adkins, LB Jerrell Harris, WR Marcus Jackson, CB Marty Markett, DT Micanor Regis, RB Dmitri Nance, WR James Rodgers, CB Peyton Thompson, OG Andrew Jackson, FB Mike Cox, LS Joe Zelenka, S Suaesi Tuimaunei and DL Conrad Obi.

New defensive coordinator Mike Nolan is putting his stamp on the defense. Franks started four games last year, recording two interceptions. They'll go forward with an exciting corner trio of Brent Grimes, Dunta Robinson and Asante Samuel.

Falcons CB Dominique Franks is in the mix to replace Eric Weems as the primary kick returner.

Despite emerging as a quality fill-in for Brent Grimes down the stretch, Franks will be pushed into the dime role on defense this year. He's battling Harry Douglas and Jacquizz Rodgers' brother, James, for punt-returner duties. RB Antone Smith appears to be the early favorite on kickoff returns.

Falcons CB Dominique Franks "quietly turned some heads late in the season," according to the team's official website.

The website advises to "keep your eye on" Franks in 2012 after he closed out the season with four passes defensed in four starts as Brent Grimes' injury fill-in. New coordinator Mike Nolan plans to get more aggressive in the secondary, suiting Franks' strengths as a press-man corner.

Dominique Franks is set to start at left corner with Brent Grimes (knee) sidelined.

In the nickel package, Franks will move to the slot and Chris Owens will come on at left corner. Kelvin Hayden (toe) is very doubtful for Sunday's game against the Texans. The way to attack the Falcons will continue to be through the air, although they get to face T.J. Yates and Blaine Gabbert in two of the next three weeks.

Falcons declared CB Dominique Franks, RB Antone Smith, LB Spencer Adkins, T Garrett Reynolds, G Mike Johnson, DE Lawrence Sidbury, and QB John Parker Wilson inactive for Week1 15 against the Seahawks.

The Falcons are relatively healthy for December. Jason Snelling (hamstring) returns to the lineup after two weeks off.

Falcons fifth-round CB Dominique Franks has drawn the attention of coach Mike Smith.

"It's been impressive," Smith said of Franks. "He's come a long way in understanding our scheme from the OTAs and the minicamp in May and June." Franks has the talent to be a steal for the Falcons and he'll at least battle to contribute as a returner this season. Anything they get from him as a corner would be a nice bonus.

Falcons agreed to terms with fifth-round CB Dominique Franks on a four-year contract.

A first-team All-Big 12 pick at Oklahoma as both a junior and sophomore, Franks has the size and talent to emerge as a starter down the line. As a rookie, he'll push WR Eric Weems for kickoff and punt return duties.
Tue, Jun 15, 2010 03:03:00 PM

Falcons fifth-round CB Dominique Franks "has a shot" to win punt and kickoff return duties this year.

Receiver Eric Weems held his own last season, averaging 25.3 yards per kickoff return and 10.0 yards per punt return. Franks showcased big-play ability on returns last season, becoming the first Sooner to break 100 yards on punt returns in a game since Antonio Perkins in 2003.
