CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora reports Steelers NT Steve McLendon will "miss a few weeks" with the ankle injury he suffered in Week 12.

The Steelers ostensibly feared a more major injury because La Canfora says McLendon's diagnosis was "overall positive." It's still a big blow to Pittsburgh's already shaky run defense. McLendon is their 325-pound nose tackle.

Steelers NT Steve McLendon left Sunday's Week 12 game against the Browns in the second quarter with an ankle injury.

His return is listed as doubtful. A combination of Al Woods and Ziggy Hood will replace him in the starting lineup.

Steve McLendon is expecting to be the Steelers' every-down nose tackle this season.

A former undrafted free agent that has been cut four separate times, McLendon is stepping in for Casey Hampton. He certainly doesn't lack for confidence. "The typical Steve McLendon is I want to be powerful and strong like Casey, I want to be smart like Chris Hoke, and I want to be quick and fast like Jay Ratliff of the Cowboys." McLendon did grade out positively while playing 139 snaps as Hampton's caddy last season.

Steelers re-signed restricted free agent NT Steve McLendon to a three-year contract.

McLendon, 27, drew interest from the Packers over the last two days, forcing Pittsburgh's hand to lock up Casey Hampton's heir apparent. McLendon appeared in all 16 games in 2012, registering seven tackles and two sacks. He played just 139 defensive snaps, but he can expect to see a hefty uptick this year.

Restricted free agent NT Steve McLendon visited the Packers on Wednesday.

McLendon, 27, is penciled in as Pittsburgh's starting nose tackle with veteran Casey Hampton a free agent. There's also been talk the Steelers could move McLendon to end. The Packers need help up front after being run through in the playoffs. McLendon, originally undrafted, was tendered at the lowest level. Restricted free agents have until Friday to sign offer sheets.

Steelers extended an original-pick tender to restricted free agent NT Steve McLendon.

McLendon is believed to be the heir apparent to Casey Hampton at nose tackle, but there's also chatter that he could move to defensive end in the 3-4. He has ideal height at 6-foot-4 while also showing the ability to push the pocket in limited opportunities. The low tender will pay McLendon $1.323 million.

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette considers it "preposterous" that Steelers NT Steve McLendon is listed at 6-foot-4, 280.

McLendon weighed 280 as a junior at Troy, and is 325 pounds today. The latter weight makes a lot more sense for a 3-4 nose. A former undrafted free agent, McLendon has practiced and played well enough that he's the favorite to open the season as Pittsburgh's starting nose tackle. Casey Hampton will rotate in on obvious running downs. Alameda Ta'amu will likely be a weekly scratch.

According to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, "no one has had a better training camp" than Steelers NT Steve McLendon.

McLendon was running as a starter before Casey Hampton (ACL surgery) was activated from the camp/PUP list, and beat writer Ed Bouchette believes he could hold the job heading into the regular season. A former undrafted free agent, McLendon appeared in 14 games in 2011, making 13 tackles and one sack.

The Steelers have "no reservations" about starting Steve McLendon at nose tackle if Casey Hampton (ACL surgery) isn't ready.

A former undrafted free agent, McLendon notched 13 tackles and one sack in 14 games last season. The Steelers have incentive to pump up McLendon's confidence with Hampton appearing doubtful for Week 1, but fourth-round pick Alameda Ta'amu could pass him as the favorite to start if Hampton isn't ready.

Steve McLendon is expected to make his first ever start at nose tackle for the Steelers against the Cardinals this week.

Starter Casey Hampton (shoulder) is out again and backup Chris Hoke (stinger) is facing long odds to play. At 6'4" and 280 pounds, McLendon doesn't have a nose tackle build. It's a matchup upgrade for Beanie Wells this week.

Steelers signed DE Steve McLendon from their practice squad.

McLendon gets the nod over Jay Alford. The on-again off-again Steeler should be active for Sunday's Week 8 matchup against the Saints, and will provide defensive line depth.

The Steelers are expected to sign DE Steve McLendon from their practice squad.

They had Jay Alford in for a workout Wednesday, but they're likely to add McLendon instead. It would be the third time he's been on the active roster this season. He had a tackle and a fumble recovery in Week 2.

Steelers waived DE Steve McLendon.

McLendon was up for one week after Dennis Dixon (knee) went on injured reserve, but his roster spot is needed for the return of Ben Roethlisberger.
