Jets RB/KR Joe McKnight is certain he'll make the final roster.
"They're going to have to kill me to take my spot," he said. "So, whoever they bring in, I don't care. I'm just going to make it a point to prove I'm going to be here." McKnight is entering the final year of his rookie deal, and he says new OC Marty Mornhinweg has been working him in the slot. The 25-year-old averages 4.5 YPC on 112 career totes, but has never been a legit offensive threat. May 16 - 2:08 PM

Joe McKnight considers himself a legitimate contender for the Jets' starting running back job, and vows to be "a lot better" in 2013.

"I made that promise to myself," he said. "If not, I’m going to die trying. I’m nowhere near close to where I want to go." McKnight also claims he never had a single conversation with former OC Tony Sparano, but that he "loves" new OC Marty Mornhinweg. McKnight's fire is admirable, but he'll remain a gadget player/special teamer. Chris Ivory is the favorite for No. 1 duties in New York.

Jets RB Joe McKnight rushed once for two yards in the team's Week 17 loss to Buffalo.

McKnight gained 179 yards on 30 carries (5.97 YPC) this season, but was curiously underutilized as a change-of-pace back behind plodders Shonn Greene and Bilal Powell. McKnight, also the Jets' primary kickoff returner, is still just 24 years old and due an affordable $575,000 in 2013. While he's almost certainly not the answer for the Jets' feature back woes, McKnight deserves a longer look in a complementary role from New York's next offensive staff.

Joe McKnight (ankle, illness) was downgraded to "DNP" in practice on Thursday.

McKnight was listed as a "full" participant on Wednesday with an ankle issue, so he was likely sent home sick on Thursday. He should be fine for Week 17 against the Bills as the Jets' No. 3 running back and kick returner.

Jets RB Joe McKnight played only one snap in Week 14 after suffering three migraine headaches during the week.

Coach Rex Ryan said his original plan was to keep three quarterbacks active -- Mark Sanchez, Tim Tebow, and Greg McElroy -- against the Jaguars, but the Jets were forced to deactivate McElroy and dress Kahlil Bell due to McKnight's migraines. McKnight has been thoroughly fantasy irrelevant all this season.

Joe McKnight was taking reps at wide receiver on Monday.

The Jets continue to jerk McKnight around. The scatback and kick returner was previously used at cornerback this season due to injuries. Now that Clyde Gates (concussion), Chaz Schilens (concussion) and Jeremy Kerley (hamstring, heel) are battling injuries, they're trying McKnight out wide. It's yet another desperation move from a desperate franchise.

Joe McKnight (ankle) is officially questionable for Thursday's game against the Patriots.

McKnight escaped Sunday's win over the Rams without setbacks, and will be active for New York's Thanksgiving nightcap with the Pats. He won't be in for more than 3-5 touches, however.

Joe McKnight (questionable, ankle) is expected to play in Sunday's game against the Rams.

Barring any setbacks, McKnight will return after missing last week's game. Bilal Powell (concussion) also received medical clearance Saturday and is available in a third-down role behind Shonn Greene.

Joe McKnight (ankle) is listed as questionable for Week 11 after getting in his third straight limited practice Friday.

McKnight expects to play against the Rams, but could end up a game-time call. Regardless, he's well off the radar in fantasy leagues.

Joe McKnight (ankle) and Bilal Powell (concussion) were limited in Thursday's practice.

McKnight is tentatively expected to return for Sunday's game. Although Powell resumed practicing, he was sporting a red non-contact jersey suggesting he's yet to gain full clearance.

Jets RB/KR Joe McKnight (ankle) was limited in Wednesday's practice, but expects to be active for Week 11.

McKnight was held out of Sunday's loss to the Seahawks, but with two weeks of rest under his belt, should be ready to go against the Rams. McKnight is averaging just 2.1 touches per game.

Jets RB/KR Joe McKnight (ankle) has been ruled out for Week 10.

McKnight tried to play through the injury two weeks ago, but suffered a setback in the game. He was limited in practice all week, and did not travel with the team to Seattle. Bilal Powell (shoulder) is listed as questionable, but coach Rex Ryan expects him to play as Shonn Greene's backup on Sunday.

Jets RB/KR Joe McKnight (ankle) is "unlikely" to play versus the Seahawks in Week 10.

McKnight aggravated his high ankle sprain by trying to play through it two weeks ago. Bilal Powell (shoulder) has returned to limited practice this week and appears to be on track to play as Shonn Greene's backup on Sunday. Clyde Gates and Antonio Cromartie are candidates to return kickoffs.

Joe McKnight (ankle) did not practice Thursday.

McKnight continues to keep stress off his ankle sprain. If active against the Seahawks Sunday, he'll have a bit role off the bench behind Shonn Greene and possibly Bilal Powell (shoulder).
Thu, Nov 8, 2012 12:10:00 PM

Joe McKnight (ankle) was absent from Wednesday's practice.

McKnight is capable of playing without practicing, but the fact that he was held out with the Jets coming out of their bye isn't a good sign. The New York Daily News is "guessing" he'll be ready to play in Week 10 against Seattle.
