WGR 550 Buffalo expects Sam Young and Colin Brown to compete for the Bills' starting left guard job.
Young (6-foot-8, 322) started the first four games of his career last season, all at right tackle. Brown (6-foot-7, 326) started one game at right guard in 2012 before tearing his hamstring completely off the bone and missing the rest of the season. Adding a veteran free agent to the mix is also a possibility, but the Bills have publicly stated they don't value guards that highly. May 3 - 11:33 AM

Bills GM Buddy Nix says newly acquired OT Sam Young will see most of his snaps at right tackle.

LT Demetrius Bell had a worse preseason than RT Erik Pears, so this comes as a bit of a surprise. Pears hardly shined, however, and both Young and fourth-round pick Chris Hairston are good bets to see heavy action this season.

Bills claimed OT Sam Young off waivers from the Cowboys.

Buffalo had only rookie fourth-rounder Chris Hairston behind starters Demetrius Bell and Erik Pears, so it's a great fit for Young. On this O-Line, any player can move quickly into the starting lineup. Bell was given less than a ringing endorsement heading into the opener.

Cowboys waived OT Sam Young.

Young was the Cowboys' sixth-round pick last season, but lacks the athleticism to be an effective NFL tackle. The Cowboys' offensive line overhaul continues with pass protection as a focus. Young's strengths were size and smarts.

Cowboys beat writer Bob Sturm suggests "the premise that he [Sam Young] could start in 2011 at right tackle seems like a very far-fetched and optimistic appraisal of his situation."

It's hard not to agree with Sturm's assessment. Dallas figures to let both Marc Colombo and Alex Barron walk this offseason, and while Young has the strength and frame to start, he's likely no more than a long-term backup. Offensive line will be an area that Dallas upgrades this offseason.

The Cowboys have been grooming Sam Young to be their backup tackle.

Young, a sixth-round pick out of Notre Dame last season, moved ahead of Alex Barron late in the season. Barron, an impending free agent, will likely be allowed to walk.

Cowboys OT Sam Young will be sidelined 3-4 weeks with a sprained right MCL.

Young had a solid camp, showing more than anticipated power and proving to the team that he was a valuable backup piece. His sidelining is a big blow to what little depth the team had along the offensive line.

Cowboys signed sixth-round OT Sam Young to a four-year contract, including a $110,500 signing bonus.

A four-year starter at Notre Dame, Young projects as a backup-caliber right tackle in the pros. Limited in terms of both strength and athleticism, the former Golden Domer won't be guaranteed a roster spot coming out of camp.
