Steelers C Maurkice Pouncey (knee) is expected back for Sunday's game against the Redskins.
Doug Legursky filled in admirably on Sunday night as the Steelers racked up 431 total yards of offense against the Bengals. But Pouncey represents a major upgrade for Ben Roethlisberger and the running game. He was a first-team All-Pro selection last year. Tue, Oct 23, 2012 12:22:00 PM

According to CBS' Jason La Canfora, Steelers C Maurkice Pouncey (knee) will not play in Sunday night's game against the Bengals.

Pouncey isn't quite ready to go after spraining his MCL in last Thursday's loss to the Titans. Doug Legursky will draw the start at center, representing a major downgrade in both run blocking and pass protection. The Steelers are really banged up for this one with Pouncey, Rashard Mendenhall (Achilles), Isaac Redman (ankle), Troy Polamalu (calf) and T Marcus Gilbert (ankle) all sidelined.

Steelers C Maurkice Pouncey (knee) is hoping to play this week after returning to a limited practice on Thursday.

"It feels great so far," Pouncey said. "I think the (knee) brace and the tape job helped me a lot today. If I feel good (Friday) morning, I think I'll have a good chance of playing Sunday." Pouncey could barely walk on Monday.

Steelers C Maurkice Pouncey (knee, right MCL sprain) is "improving slowly" but is taking it "day by day."

Pouncey was forced out of Thursday night's Week 6 loss to the Titans on the first offensive play. The injury was initially reported as day-to-day, but Pouncey is very unlikely to play in Week 7. "It is going to take a couple weeks before it gets all the way healthy," Pouncey said. "I want to get out there as much as the next guy, but I don't want to rush it back and have a setback." Doug Legursky should draw the start against the Bengals on NBC's Sunday Night Football.

According to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, Steelers C Maurkice Pouncey (knee) is "highly, highly unlikely" to play in Week 7.

Pouncey was initially billed as day-to-day after going down in last Thursday's loss, but he sounds more "week-to-week" with a strain of his right MCL. Pouncey has played through injury before, but it appears Doug Legursky will be snapping the ball against the Bengals.

Steelers C Maurkice Pouncey (knee, right MCL) is not expected to miss much, if any, time.

Pouncey was knocked out of Thursday's game against the Titans on the team's first offensive play and was replaced by Doug Legursky. Pittsburgh has eight more days before they go to Cincinnati next Sunday, so that gives Pouncey a good chunk of time to rest up. It sounds like he has avoided an MCL tear and may have just suffered a sprain.

The injury that knocked Steelers C Maurkice Pouncey out of Thursday's game was to his right MCL.

Several teammates said they don't believe the injury is serious. They are not doctors, of course, and it became clear as Steelers offensive linemen continued to drop like flies that Pouncey was not a candidate to re-enter the game. Depending on the severity, MCL tears typically keep a player sidelined 2-6 weeks.

Steelers C Maurkice Pouncey left Thursday night's game against the Titans with a right leg injury and will not return.

Pouncey was injured on Pittsburgh's first offensive play when RT Marcus Gilbert rolled up the back of the center's leg. Pouncey fell to the ground and was grabbing his knee or ankle. Doug Legursky replaces him in the lineup.

Steelers C Maurkice Pouncey said his troublesome left ankle feels "awesome."

Pouncey was forced to sit out Super Bowl XLV due to the severe sprain and then missed another playoff game last season after reinjuring it. After offseason surgery, the training staff believes he'll be less susceptible to sprains. Pouncey's health is key as he's the core piece of the Steelers' offensive line.

Steelers C Maurkice Pouncey says he's 100 percent following January surgery to remove bone spurs from his troublesome left ankle.

Pouncey has suffered left high-ankle sprains each of the past two seasons, but the Steelers believe his operation should lessen the chances of a third. The linchpin of a constantly in-flux Steelers offensive line, Pouncey will be ready for OTAs.

Steelers GM Kevin Colbert says C Maurkice Pouncey (ankle surgery) is "progressing just fine."

Colbert also downplayed the fact that Pouncey required surgery after suffering his second left high-ankle sprain in as many years. "High-ankle sprains, they're a different injury and then when you re-injure it sometimes you've got to do some procedures to shore that joint up." Pouncey's status for OTAs remains uncertain, but he's expected to be 100 percent well before the start of training camp.

Steelers C Maurkice Pouncey underwent surgery Thursday to repair his severely sprained ankle.

Left high-ankle sprains have ruined Pouncey's postseasons in each of his first two years in the league. The surgery will hopefully remedy the problem going forward. There's no timetable for Pouncey's return, though we suspect he'll be back on the field for OTAs.

Steelers coach Mike Tomlin said at his Monday press conference that offseason surgery will be a possibility for C Maurkice Pouncey after he missed three of Pittsburgh's final four games with a high-ankle sprain.

Pouncey has been constrained to the sideline with high left ankle sprains as the Steelers were eliminated from postseason play each of the past two years. His health will be key in 2012 for an offensive line that struggled to protect Ben Roethlisberger this season as it dealt with a wave of injuries.

Steelers C Maurkice Pouncey (ankle) has been ruled out for Sunday's Wild Card round game at Denver.

Doug Legursky will move over from left guard, weakening two positions with mistake-prone Chris Kemoeatu likely to enter the starting lineup. The Steelers had hoped to have their offensive line intact, as they've averaged six more points per game with all hands on deck this season.

Steelers OC Bruce Arians is concerned that C Maurkice Pouncey will be unable to play this week after tweaking his high-ankle sprain in Wednesday's practice.

While Ben Roethlisberger was moving more swiftly, Pouncey was held out of practice on Thursday. "My ankle isn't feeling right," Pouncey conceded. Doug Legursky will move to center with Trai Essex filling in at guard if Pouncey can't go on Sunday.
