Cowboys owner/GM Jerry Jones said suspended MLB Rolando McClain is keeping his roster spot "for now" because of salary cap reasons.
McClain was re-signed to a one-year, $4 million deal in March that included a $750,000 signing bonus. The $750,000 is what's keeping McClain aboard for the time being. Undoubtedly, the Cowboys are trying to recoup all or some of that signing bonus. It doesn't sound like McClain will play another down for Dallas. Jul 18 - 6:06 PM

The Fort Worth Star-Telegram's Charean Williams reports the Cowboys have yet to make a decision on suspended MLB Rolando McClain's future.

Some in the organization were already annoyed with McClain for skipping voluntary workouts this spring, and then he was slapped with a 10-game suspension for violating the substance abuse policy. Williams reports "many in the organization" want him released, but he still has the backing of owner Jerry Jones. Releasing McClain could also affect the Cowboys' ability to recoup some or all of the signing bonus he was paid in March. It sounds like Jones is happy to keep McClain on the roster, but others in the organization could change his mind.

NFL suspended Cowboys OLB Rolando McClain 10 games for violating the league's substance-abuse policy.

McClain's tumultuous offseason gets worse. The Cowboys were steamed when the embattled linebacker skipped "voluntary" OTAs to spend time with his family in Alabama. McClain has been highly effective when on the field for the Cowboys the past two seasons, but also had his fair share of injuries, and the usual off-the-field drama. The Cowboys could decide they're over it, but considering their usual depth issues at linebacker, McClain will almost certainly keep his roster spot.

Cowboys OLB Rolando McClain arrived Tuesday for the start of mandatory minicamp.

The Cowboys reportedly weren't happy that McClain skipped OTAs to be with his family in Alabama, but that's water under the bridge now that he's made his way to Valley Ranch. McClain is coming off a productive year and should open 2016 as the starting middle linebacker.

Owner Jerry Jones said the Cowboys have given MLB Rolando McClain some "slack."

"It's fair to everybody to understand that Rolando's boys, his family lives in Alabama and he doesn't live with them," Jones said. "His offseason is spent with those boys and that's an understanding we have when he came through the door." Cowboys coaches are reportedly "not happy" McClain is missing OTAs, but it seems like much is being made out of nothing. Even if he is not back for mandatory minicamp, there is no reason to think he will not be at training camp.

According to website writer Bryan Broaddus, the Cowboys' coaches are "not happy" with MLB Rolando McClain.

After signing a one-year, $4 million deal to stay in Dallas, McClain has been a no-show for OTAs. He's said to be dealing with a "family situation." McClain will be fined if he doesn't show for Dallas' mandatory minicamp next week. An 11-game starter last season, McClain tallied 80 tackles with two sacks and an interception. He was PFF's No. 13 inside linebacker among 60 qualifiers.
Jun 7 - 6:17 PM

Cowboys MLB Rolando McClain has missed the first two weeks of OTAs because of a "family situation."

McClain is certainly well within his rights to skip voluntary sessions, but his history of sudden retirements makes any absence noteworthy. "I think when you talk to people around Valley Ranch, you kind of get the impression that maybe more is going on with Rolando than meets the eye," said The Dallas Morning News' Brandon George. McClain will likely be back for mandatory minicamps and should open the season as the starting middle linebacker, but this is at least a situation to monitor.
Jun 4 - 11:33 AM

Cowboys re-signed MLB Rolando McClain to a one-year, $5 million contract.

McClain had a big bounce-back year with Dallas in 2014 before re-signing last March on a one-year deal. He was then suspended the first four games of the year before reentering the starting lineup in Week 5. McClain graded out well in pass coverage, but didn't make as much of an impact in other areas. Injury-prone and a knucklehead, McClain is still a solid piece in the middle.
Mar 9 - 9:57 AM

The Cowboys are interested in re-signing free agent MLB Rolando McClain.

"I think he's finding a niche here and hopefully we can figure something out," owner Jerry Jones said. The sides are expected to open talks at the Combine. McClain has 80-plus tackles the last two seasons, but has dealt with injuries/suspensions. The Cowboys also want to retain free agent CB Morris Claiborne.
Feb 26 - 7:18 PM

Cowboys MLB Rolando McClain (concussion) has been ruled out for Week 15.

McClain has had a poor season overall, but his loss is a blow to Dallas' run defense, which was already struggling. On paper, Chris Ivory will have a favorable matchup against the Cowboys on Saturday Night Football.

Cowboys MLB Rolando McClain is in the concussion protocol after suffering from concussion symptoms following the Week 14 loss to the Packers.

McClain underwent concussion testing on the sideline, but was cleared and allowed back into the game. He had a headache and other symptoms following the game, however, and was placed in the protocol. It is still unclear if McClain suffered a concussion. His status will be updated by Wednesday at the latest.

Cowboys MLB Rolando McClain (hand/foot, questionable) did not practice Friday.

McClain was dealing with just a hand issue earlier in the week and was able to practice in full Thursday. Not being able to practice on Friday with a new injury is not a great sign. With Sean Lee (concussion) already ruled out, the Cowboys could be very thin at linebacker against the Bucs. Doug Martin would get a boost if both players sit.

Cowboys activated MLB Rolando McClain (knee scope) from the active/PUP list.

McClain is suspended for Weeks 1-4, but will be ready to rock against the Patriots in Week 5. One of 2014's biggest surprises, McClain will be returning to a starting job.

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said MLB Rolando McClain (knee) would be ready for Week 1 if he wasn't suspended four games.

Jones said the Cowboys aren't concerned about McClain missing the team's preseason slate. "We know what he can do," said Jones. "That has not been diminished in terms physically of what he’s able to do." McClain will be back for the team's Week 5 tilt against New England as long as he can avoid setbacks.

Cowboys MLB Rolando McClain (knee scope) remains without a timetable for a return.

With McClain suspended for the first four games of the season, the Cowboys aren't rushing his return. He should be back to full health sometime in the next month.
