Free agent TE Tom Crabtree has retired from the NFL.
Crabtree, 29, spent four seasons in the league with the Packers and Bucs from 2010-2013, catching 22 passes for 323 yards and five touchdowns. He battled a high-ankle sprain and torn bicep in his lone season with the Bucs and struggled to find work last season other than two short stays with the Saints. Apr 30 - 11:47 AM

Saints re-signed TE Tom Crabtree.

He's taking the roster spot of suspended WR Joe Morgan. Crabtree spent 11 days with the Saints earlier this month. It's possible his second stay could be just as short.

Saints re-signed TE Tom Crabtree and waived LB Todd Davis.

Crabtree's re-signing may hint the Saints believe Jimmy Graham (shoulder) isn't quite out of the woods. Crabtree, though, is mostly a special teamer.

Saints released TE Tom Crabtree.

It's unclear if this has anything to do with Jimmy Graham's Week 7 status, but it can't be a bad thing. There's speculation Crabtree became expendable now that FB Erik Lorig (ankle) is ready to return.

Saints signed TE Tom Crabtree.

It's a Jimmy Graham (shoulder) insurance policy. A Packer from 2010-12, Crabtree was released by the Bucs in May after an injury-plagued 2013. Graham is tentatively expected to be ready for Week 7, meaning Crabtree's stay in New Orleans could be short.

Free agent TE Tom Crabtree will work out for the Giants next week.

The Giants have one of the league's more unsettled tight end corps, but Crabtree would be a pure reserve. He caught only four passes in seven games for the Bucs last season before landing on injured reserve with a torn biceps.

Buccaneers released TE Tom Crabtree.

The writing was on the wall for Crabtree after the Bucs signed Brandon Myers and drafted Austin Seferian-Jenkins. Signed from Green Bay last offseason, Crabtree caught only four passes in seven games with Tampa Bay before being placed on injured reserve with a torn bicep. Crabtree has never developed as a pass-catching threat and was not a particularly successful blocker in 2013. He may struggle to latch on with another team.

Bucs placed TE Tom Crabtree (biceps) on injured reserve, ending his season.

The reserve suffered the injury in Sunday's win over the Lions. Crabtree was viewed as a nice under-the-radar signing when the Bucs lured him away from Green Bay, but he did little more than block his first year in Tampa. Crabtree finishes 2013 with four catches for 21 yards. He's signed for an affordable $750,000 in 2014, but there's no guarantee he'll be back.

Bucs TE Tom Crabtree caught a two-yard touchdown pass in Week 9 against the Seahawks.

The score came on a throw from RB Mike James. Crabtree has been primarily a blocker in Tampa Bay's offense. Tim Wright is the pass-catching tight end.

Bucs TE Tom Crabtree (ankle) is practicing in full for Week 6.

Crabtree has been sidelined since the preseason finale with a high-ankle sprain, but is "hopeful" of making his 2013 debut Sunday. He'll immediately reassume his starting job if active. A blocking tight end, Crabtree isn't on the fantasy radar.

Bucs TE Tom Crabtree (ankle) practiced Monday, and is "hopeful" of making his 2013 debut Sunday.

The Bucs' starting tight end has been sidelined since the preseason finale with a high-ankle sprain. Tampa has been forced to mix-and-match with waiver-wire talents in Crabtree's absence. The former Packer will be a low-end TE2 whenever he finally gets back on the field.

Bucs declared TE Tom Crabtree, G Carl Nicks, QB Dan Orlovsky, CB Rashaan Melvin, FB Erik Lorig, DT William Gholston, and DT Chris Jones inactive for Week 1 against the Jets.

Crabtree is out indefinitely with a high ankle sprain.

Bucs TE Tom Crabtree has been diagnosed with a high-ankle sprain, and is out indefinitely.

Crabtree had to be carted off the field in Thursday's preseason finale. Beat writer Rick Stroud terms the sprain as "severe," suggesting Crabtree could miss all of September. The injury further thins one of the league's weaker tight end corps. The Bucs should be monitoring the waiver wire for help. Luke Stocker will start Week 1.

Updating a previous item, X-rays on Bucs TE Tom Crabtree's left ankle came back negative.

Crabtree was carted off the field during Thursday night's preseason finale. All this confirms is that the ankle isn't broken. He's likely dealing with at least a high-ankle sprain. Luke Stocker is the favorite to start Week 1.

Bucs TE Tom Crabtree was carted off the field with a left ankle injury during Thursday night's preseason finale.

Crabtree is vying for the starting job with Luke Stocker. He's also been playing some fullback this summer. The Bucs have arguably the weakest tight end depth chart in the league, so any amount of time missed by Crabtree will be felt.
