Bucs waived S Major Wright.

Wright signed for the veteran minimum to reunite with Lovie Smith this offseason, but couldn't beat out Bradley McDougald for the backup strong safety job. He missed the Bucs' final two preseason games with a back injury. 26-year-old Wright will attract interest on waivers if healthy.
Aug 30 - 2:10 PM

Bucs agreed to terms with S Major Wright on a one-year contract.

Wright is coming off a miserable season in Chicago, but showed ballhawking and playmaking ability in his three years prior under Lovie Smith, compiling seven interceptions across 2011-2012. He has a pick-six in three straight years. Turning 26 in July, Wright still offers developmental upside. Look for him to at very worst be a third safety behind Mark Barron and Dashon Goldson.
Apr 4 - 4:48 PM

The Tampa Bay Times reports the Bucs are "likely" to sign free agent SS Major Wright.

The transaction is expected by the end of today. Wright is still only 25 years old and spent the early portion of his career playing for Lovie Smith in Chicago. He could challenge disappointing $41 million FS Dashon Goldson for snaps.
Apr 4 - 4:42 PM

Free agent S Major Wright is visiting the Bucs.

According to NFL.com's Ian Rapoport, the Bucs hope to hammer out a deal. Wright is coming off a rough season for the Bears, but would be reuniting with former coach Lovie Smith in Tampa. Wright was better under Smith in 2010-12.
Apr 1 - 6:05 PM

The Bears are not expected to re-sign free agent SS Major Wright.

Wright showed playmaking ability during his first three NFL seasons, but his coverage and tackling fell off a surprising cliff in 2013. Still only 25, Wright would be smart to pursue one-year deals to rehab his market value for 2015.
Feb 28 - 4:43 PM

ESPN Chicago considers the Bears' need to upgrade the safety position to be "urgent."

SS Major Wright is an impending free agent, while FS Chris Conte has one year left on his rookie deal. Both were bottom-five safeties in Pro Football Focus' end-of-season ratings, with Wright finishing dead last. Due to the Bears' pitiful front-seven this past season, Wright and Conte were asked to make too many stops. Both missed their fair share of tackles. Chicago doesn't have anybody waiting in the wings at the position ready to take over as a starter.
Jan 31 - 9:47 AM

Bears SS Major Wright (hamstring) returned to a full practice Friday.

Barring setbacks, Wright should be in the starting lineup on Monday night against Dallas after missing Week 13. Wright has been an IDP dynamo when healthy this season, averaging 6.9 tackles per game with two forced fumbles and two interceptions. 57 of Wright's 76 tackles have been of the solo variety.

Bears SS Major Wright suffered a hamstring injury in Friday's practice and is questionable for Week 13.

The Bears went so far as to promote SS Sean Cattouse from the practice squad, indicating concern over Wright's Week 13 availability. Wright has been an IDP stud this year with 76 tackles and four turnovers forced.

Bears SS Major Wright's 2013 salary jumped from $575,000 to $1.323 million based on rookie-deal incentives.

Wright started all 16 games in 2012 and was a key part of Chicago's turnover-forcing defensive backfield. He set new career-highs in tackles (71), passes defensed (eight), and interceptions (four), while also scoring a touchdown. Wright enters the final year of his rookie deal and could be a candidate for extension. The Bears defense shouldn't change too much under new DC Mel Tucker.

There have been only two completions of 30 or more yards against the Bears defense over the first six games.

Bears cornerback Charles Tillman credits the improved play of safeties Chris Conte and Major Wright and the work of the coaching staff for all but eliminating the busted coverages that previously plagued the defense. "Just talking from a safety standpoint, Major Wright and Chris Conte have done a phenomenal job of not giving up the big plays and letting guys get behind them like they did last year," Tillman said. So far this season, Pro Football Focus has Wright as a top-10 safety.

Bears SS Major Wright exited Thursday's preseason opener with a hamstring injury.

Wright intercepted a Peyton Manning first-quarter pass and may have pulled the hammy on the return. He was immediately ruled out for the rest of the contest.
Thu, Aug 9, 2012 09:13:00 PM

The Bears have ruled out SS Major Wright (shoulder) for Week 14.

Craig Steltz will get the start against Denver and will probably spend the entire day in the box, making him an intriguing one-game IDP sleeper. Chris Conte has been the Bears' starting free safety. Brandon Meriweather is No. 3.

Bears FS Major Wright was forced from Sunday's game against the Chiefs with a shoulder injury, and will not return.

Wright went down late in the first half before being ruled out at halftime. Craig Steltz is now in the game at free safety for the Bears.
Sun, Dec 4, 2011 02:52:00 PM

Bears FS Major Wright (hip) insisted he'll return following the Bears' Week 8 bye.

Wright suffered a hip injury in Thursday's practice, which allowed Chris Harris to emerge from the doghouse and draw the start. Harris dropped an interception and was beaten by Dez Briscoe for a fourth-quarter touchdown. Wright will get his starting job back.
