Texans re-signed CB Kareem Jackson to a four-year, $34 million contract with $20 million guaranteed.
The exorbitant price tag for a non-shutdown corner strongly hints at forthcoming overpays at cornerback when the signing period begins Tuesday. Still, the Texans are keeping one of the top young defensive backs off the market in Jackson, who graded out as PFF's No. 11 corner last season. Not yet 27 years old, Jackson will return to start opposite Johnathan Joseph and continue to play the slot in sub-packages. The demand for free agents Byron Maxwell and Brandon Flowers will increase with Jackson staying in Houston. Mar 7 - 5:09 PM

The Texans are not expected to use the franchise tag on CB Kareem Jackson.

Although Jackson was PFF's No. 11 CB last season, he's not worth the $13M it would cost for the Texans to keep him on a one-year franchise tender. That doesn't mean the team doesn't want him back. GM Rick Smith will try to work out a long-term deal before teams like the Bengals, with Jackson confidant Vance Joseph as DBs coach, come calling.

Free agent CB Kareem Jackson told SiriusXM NFL Radio that he would prefer if the Texans didn't assign him the franchise tag.

Jackson must have a pretty vivid imagination if he thinks the Texans would pony up $13 million just to keep him off the market. That's Darrelle Revis money. With that said, Jackson has played well in Houston and hashing out a long-term deal would make sense for both sides. The Alabama alum has recorded ten interceptions since entering the league in 2010.

Free agent CB Kareem Jackson wants to re-sign with the Texans.

"I’d love to be back here," Jackson said. "I definitely want to be a part of what’s starting to happen last year and progressing into the future." Jackson was the Texans' first-round pick -- 20th overall -- in 2010 and will turn 27 in April. He's missed six games across five seasons, but can play inside and outside at 5'10/188. Jackson was a top-seven cover corner at PFF this past season.

Texans RCB Kareem Jackson (knee) is listed as probable for Week 14 against the Jaguars.

Jackson has missed the last three games with a knee injury, but he was able to practice all week. Darryl Morris has played well in Jackson's place, but Jackson's return should boost one of the leakiest secondaries in the league.

Texans LCB Kareem Jackson (knee) isn't due back until Week 14.

The Texans have had a lot of problems in their secondary with fill-ins A.J. Bouye and Darryl Morris struggling in Jackson's place. Jackson is a critical corner because he can both play outside and cover the slot in sub-packages.

The Texans will be without LCB Kareem Jackson (knee) in Week 11.

Jackson sprained his MCL on November 2, and isn't ready to go after the bye week. The Texans will have to continue to lean on undrafted rookie Andre Hal, who got absolutely torched by the Eagles before the open date.

Texans CB Kareem Jackson (knee) will reportedly miss 3-4 weeks.

Jackson sprained his MCL in the Week 9 loss to the Eagles. After Jackson and Johnathan Joseph (concussion) left, the Eagles relentlessly picked on Dre Hal with both Jeremy Maclin and Jordan Matthews. It's a concern for the Texans as they head into their bye.

Texans CB Kareem Jackson left Sunday's Week 9 loss to the Eagles with a knee injury.

Jackson and Jonathan Joseph (concussion) both left in the first quarter, leaving Nick Foles and then Mark Sanchez to feast. Luckily for the Texans, they have the bye week to recover.

The Texans have added slot corner to CB Kareem Jackson's duties.

Houston struggled to defend the slot last season, after losing Glover Quin in free agency. Jackson will presumably start outside and move into the slot in sub-packages, although it's unclear who will replace him on the perimeter in nickel and dime. The move could help Jackson's IDP value, as he'll play closer to the line of scrimmage. It also helps his versatility in a contract year.

Texans CB Kareem Jackson (rib) will return this week.

The Texans need all hands on deck to be competitive with the Patriots. Due to a cracked rib, Jackson had been sidelined since Week 10.

Texans declared LCB Kareem Jackson, QB T.J. Yates, FS Jawanza Starling, CB Elbert Mack, OT Andrew Gardner, OG Cody White and DE Tim Jamison inactive for Week 12 against the Jaguars.

Jackson is dealing with a broken rib, and is week to week. Brice McCain is starting opposite Johnathan Joseph. McCain will kick inside in nickel packages, with Brandon Harris manning the outside.

Texans LCB Kareem Jackson confirmed he has a fractured rib.

The broken rib is causing Jackson to have "difficulty lifting his arm," per coach Gary Kubiak. He's been ruled out for Week 12 against Jacksonville. The Texans will likely turn to Johnathan Joseph as a shadow corner, while Brice McCain starts opposite him and Brandon Harris plays outside in nickel packages.

Texans LCB Kareem Jackson (ribs) has been ruled out for Week 12.

Look for Johnathan Joseph to shadow Cecil Shorts on Sunday while Brandon Harris and Brice McCain match up with Ace Sanders and Kerry Taylor. Jackson also missed Week 11 and is likely dealing with at least one cracked rib.

Texans CB Kareem Jackson (chest) will be a game-time decision for Week 11.

Jackson bruised his chest in last week's loss to the Cardinals. With the Raiders' inept passing attack on tap for Sunday, the Texans are unlikely to force Jackson into the lineup. Brandon Harris would start opposite Johnathan Joseph if Jackson can't go.
