The Texans have added slot corner to CB Kareem Jackson's duties.
Houston struggled to defend the slot last season, after losing Glover Quin in free agency. Jackson will presumably start outside and move into the slot in sub-packages, although it's unclear who will replace him on the perimeter in nickel and dime. The move could help Jackson's IDP value, as he'll play closer to the line of scrimmage. It also helps his versatility in a contract year. Jun 6 - 12:14 AM

Texans CB Kareem Jackson (rib) will return this week.

The Texans need all hands on deck to be competitive with the Patriots. Due to a cracked rib, Jackson had been sidelined since Week 10.

Texans declared LCB Kareem Jackson, QB T.J. Yates, FS Jawanza Starling, CB Elbert Mack, OT Andrew Gardner, OG Cody White and DE Tim Jamison inactive for Week 12 against the Jaguars.

Jackson is dealing with a broken rib, and is week to week. Brice McCain is starting opposite Johnathan Joseph. McCain will kick inside in nickel packages, with Brandon Harris manning the outside.

Texans LCB Kareem Jackson confirmed he has a fractured rib.

The broken rib is causing Jackson to have "difficulty lifting his arm," per coach Gary Kubiak. He's been ruled out for Week 12 against Jacksonville. The Texans will likely turn to Johnathan Joseph as a shadow corner, while Brice McCain starts opposite him and Brandon Harris plays outside in nickel packages.

Texans LCB Kareem Jackson (ribs) has been ruled out for Week 12.

Look for Johnathan Joseph to shadow Cecil Shorts on Sunday while Brandon Harris and Brice McCain match up with Ace Sanders and Kerry Taylor. Jackson also missed Week 11 and is likely dealing with at least one cracked rib.

Texans CB Kareem Jackson (chest) will be a game-time decision for Week 11.

Jackson bruised his chest in last week's loss to the Cardinals. With the Raiders' inept passing attack on tap for Sunday, the Texans are unlikely to force Jackson into the lineup. Brandon Harris would start opposite Johnathan Joseph if Jackson can't go.

Texans interim coach Wade Phillips said Monday CB Kareem Jackson (chest) has an "outside chance" to play in Week 11.

The Texans may not rush Jackson back because they're playing the nose-diving 3-6 Raiders at home, but it's good news he avoided a long-term injury. Jackson was originally feared to have suffered a rib fracture in Sunday's loss to the Cardinals. As it turns out, Jackson has a "chest contusion," or bruise.

Texans CB Kareem Jackson is done for the day in Week 10 with a rib injury.

The Texans initially called Jackson "questionable" to return. He went to the locker room and was later ruled out, indicating that X-rays showed a fairly significant rib injury. Brandon Harris is now in the game opposite Johnathan Joseph. Brice McCain remains the Texans' slot cornerback.

Texans LCB Kareem Jackson reported to OTAs at 208 pounds, 16 heavier than his listed playing weight last season.

As the Houston Chronicle's Lance Zierlein points out, that's far too heavy for a 5-foot-10 cornerback. The Texans will likely want Jackson to get back under 200 by training camp. Jackson graded out as Pro Football Focus' No. 13 overall corner last year. He's entering his fourth NFL season.

Defensive coordinator Wade Phillips expects Kareem Jackson to return as the Texans' starting right corner in 2012.

The Texans lost Jason Allen, with whom Jackson rotated in 2011, and they'll count on him to be a full-time player in 2012. "I think Kareem’s the starter," Phillips said. "... Kareem had a good year. Part of it was we had a good year defensively, but he had something to do with that. He played physical like we thought he would and he obviously played better than he did previously."

Texans declared CB Kareem Jackson (questionable, knee) inactive for Week 4 against Pittsburgh.

RB Arian Foster will start and is expected to see a heavy workload, and Ben Tate will be his backup with Derrick Ward (out, ankle) sidelined. CB Sherrick McManis (doubtful, hamstring) will sit. QB T.J. Yates, WR David Anderson, T Andrew Gardner and G Thomas Austin are all healthy scratches.

Kareem Jackson is still getting pushed by Jason Allen for the starting corner job opposite Johnathan Joseph.

The two appear to be neck-and-neck as we head into the final preseason game. Jackson, the Texans' first-round pick last season, was brutal as a rookie and had a major hand in the team team's league-worst pass defense. No matter who wins out, the arrival of Joseph, Wade Phillips and Danieal Manning will help take some pressure off.

New Texans defensive coordinator Wade Phillips admits CB Kareem Jackson needs "a lot of work" on his technique.

"I guess he was able to play at Alabama without a lot of technique without worrying about staying low enough or moving his feet," said Phillips. "I think that caught up with him. I think we can coach him." This is an area where Jackson is really hurt by the lockout. Phillips will have limited teaching time before Jackson is thrown back into the fire.

New Texans DBs coach Vance Joseph considers 2010 first-round pick Kareem Jackson more of a zone than man-to-man corner at this stage.

New defensive coordinator Wade Phillips recently stated a similar sentiment, questioning Jackson's deep speed. Phillips' defense utilizes more man than zone concepts in the secondary, so Jackson is going to have to make some major changes. For 2011 fantasy matchup purposes, you can safely bet we'll be recommending to target Jackson with opposing wide receivers.

Texans defensive coordinator Wade Phillips is worried about CB Kareem Jackson's deep speed.

The Texans appear set on moving Glover Quin to safety, so Jackson is almost certainly going to start at corner again. After being one of the worst in the league at his position last year, he'll be tested plenty. Note that Jackson did run in the low 4.4s as a college prospect -- there's a ton of room for improvement here.
