Bears waived WR Freddie Barnes, S Quentin Scott, CB Woodny Turenne, C Tim Walter, and CB Cornelius Brown.
Barnes was one of the high-profile undrafted free agent signings after setting multiple records in Bowling Green's spread offense. Barnes is just a borderline athlete, though, and he was no higher than seventh on the depth chart in Chicago. Fri, Sep 3, 2010 12:41:00 PM

Bears signed Bowling Green WR Freddie Barnes.

Barnes, 23, set all kinds of receptions records in Bowling Green's spread offense, but lacks NFL-caliber athleticism with just a 31-inch vertical jump and a 4.6+ forty time. He'll be in the mix for a roster spot in Chicago.

One NFL scout predicted to SI.com that Bowling Green WR Freddie Barnes will be a late-round pick.

"He hasn't run well, but he was so productive you can't ignore him," said the scout. "He's very instinctive, and even at the tail end of the draft, I can see him doing something in the league." Barnes hasn't shown NFL-caliber athleticism this offseason, but set the NCAA receptions record in 2009.

Bowling Green WR Freddie Barnes' forty times at the Falcons' Pro Day ranged from 4.58 to 4.65.

Barnes was similarly unimpressive in the vertical, managing just 31 inches. A late-round prospect now, he won't be viewed by teams as a future starter.

Bowling Green WR Freddie Barnes measured 6'0/212 at the East-West Shrine Game weigh-in.

The measurement is strong for Barnes, who was listed at 6'0/206 as a Falcon. The 23-year-old set an NCAA record with 155 receptions as a senior, capping it with a 17-catch, 219-yard, three-score domination of Idaho in the Humanitarian Bowl. Barnes is a top slot receiver prospect for the '09 draft.
