Saints waived or released QB Sean Canfield, WRs Greg Camarillo and Andy Tanner, DEs Braylon Broughton and Alex Daniels, LBs Ezra Butler and Lawrence Wilson, TEs Derek Schouman and Michael Higgins, CB Nick Hixson, S Jerico Nelson, G DeOnt’ae Pannell, OT Aderious Simmons and C/G Matt Tennant.
The Saints have elected to go with only Chase Daniel behind Drew Brees. The No. 166 pick of last year's draft, it bodes poorly for Wilson's future that he couldn't crack a linebacker corps that was beset by injuries this summer. Heading into his age-30 season, Camarillo made just nine catches in 13 games for the Vikings in 2011. Fri, Aug 31, 2012 09:02:00 PM

Saints signed QB Sean Canfield, CBs Josh Victorian and Cord Parks, and OG Nick Howell to reserve/future contracts.

Canfield appeared in all four 2011 preseason games, completing 35-of-51 passes (68.6 percent) for 331 yards, one touchdown, and two picks. He played yo-yo between the waiver wire and Saints practice squad all year. Victorian played college ball at Louisiana Tech. Parks is a special teams prospect.

Saints waived QB Sean Canfield.

The Saints will likely try to sneak Canfield back onto the practice squad. They needed his active roster spot for tight end depth.

Saints promoted QB Sean Canfield from the practice squad.

The Saints had been going with just two quarterbacks on the active roster. It's possible Canfield was promoted to prevent him from signing elsewhere. A seventh-round pick in 2010, he has yet to take a regular season snap.

Saints signed QB Sean Canfield, TE Tyler Lorenzen, OG Brian De la Puente, RB Chris Taylor, WR Andy Tanner, CB Mark Parson, OG Roger Allen, and FB Jed Collins to reserve/future contracts.

Some needed futures signings to spice up a slllloooow news day. Every player here finished the season on New Orleans' practice squad. Canfield was on and off the squad all year. He was a 2010 seventh-round pick.

Saints signed QB Sean Canfield from their practice squad.

Canfield is unlikely to be active on game day as the No. 3 QB behind Drew Brees and Chase Daniel. His roster stay will likely be short.

Saints signed QB Sean Canfield, FB Matt Clapp, WR Montez Billings, OL Brandon Carter, LB Harry Coleman, DT DeMario Pressley, and CB Reggie Jones to their practice squad.

They have one spot left. Pressley is the most likely of the above to be activated during the regular season. Canfield will essentially serve as the No. 3 quarterback, behind active roster members Drew Brees and Chase Daniel.

Saints waived QB Sean Canfield.

The southpaw Canfield never put the least bit of heat on Chase Daniel or Patrick Ramsey, so this move was expected. It's unclear if the Saints will even deem the seventh-round pick worth a look for the practice squad.

Saints signed seventh-round QB Sean Canfield to a four-year contract.

A 64.1-percent career passer at Oregon State, Canfield learned pro-style concepts from one of the top quarterback tutors in the college game -- Beavers coach Mike Riley. Unfortunately, Canfield appears to be a long shot for a roster spot in New Orleans. The Saints are expected to sign Patrick Ramsey shortly, and Chase Daniels has a better shot at third QB duties.

Despite drafting Sean Canfield in the seventh round, the Saints remain open to signing a veteran to back up Drew Brees.

Chase Daniel remains on the roster and Mark Brunell is still out there as a free agent. Canfield is the first quarterback drafted during the Sean Payton era, but is a project.

Saints selected Oregon State QB Sean Canfield with the No. 239 overall pick in the 2010 NFL Draft.

And Jevan Snead remains available. Canfield, a southpaw, completed an impressive 67.9 percent of his passes and posted a 21:7 TD-to-INT ratio to earn first-team All-Pac 10 accolades as a senior. His arm strength is below average, but other Oregon State passers (Derek Anderson, Matt Moore) have come out of nowhere to become legit pros after learning under Mike Riley. Sean Payton now has the developmental QB he's long wanted.

According to the National Football Post, the Oakland Raiders held a private workout for Oregon State QB Sean Canfield this week.

Canfield is a late-round prospect, so the Raiders are just doing their proper pre-draft due diligence. Judging by their recent track record, Oakland wouldn't be a good landing spot for a developmental quarterback like Canfield.

Oregon State QB Sean Canfield reportedly struggled badly in Combine passing drills.

Canfield also drew mixed reviews at best during last month's Senior Bowl. According to the Boston Herald's Ian Rapoport, Canfield "has a throwing motion that makes Tim Tebow's look short" and "was all over the place with his mechanics and accuracy." Canfield is a candidate to go undrafted.
