49ers LG Mike Iupati is recovering from shoulder surgery, but is expected to be ready for training camp.
It's unknown when Iupati went under the knife, but he's expected to miss OTAs. Iupati suffered a "stinger" in Week 14 against the Dolphins, and began showing up on the injury report with a shoulder designation thereafter. A first-team All Pro in 2012, Iupati has never missed a game in three seasons, and played 98 percent of the 49ers' offensive snaps last year. The mauling run blocker should be fine for the preseason. CSN Bay Area confirms the 49ers have had "preliminary" extension talks with LG Mike Iupati, but that no deal is imminent.

Per beat writer Matt Maiocco, there is no timetable on "striking an agreement." The 49ers' mauling left guard is coming off a monster 2012, but is still signed through 2014. Iupati would likely look to top new Titans G Andy Levitre (six years, $46.8 million) in any new deal, and could approach Carl Nicks money (five years, $47.5M).

The San Francisco Chronicle suggests LG Mike Iupati is "next in line" for a contract extension.

Iupati was nothing short of dominant last season, earning first-team All-Pro honors and grading out as Pro Football Focus' No. 5 overall guard. "In scouting, you live for those moments when you find someone that comes out at his position that isn't likely to come out for another five to 10 years," GM Trent Baalke said when asked about Iupati last fall. He's under contract through 2014 and will likely be seeking Andy Levitre kind of money (six years, $46.8M) in an extension.

49ers LG Mike Iupati (stinger) is listed as day-to-day.

Iupati has a short week with the Niners taking on the Chargers Thursday. ESPN's Mike Sando points out that the Niners may hold their impressive rookie out if it's a close call. The Niners have two crucial division games to close out the year.

49ers LG Mike Iupati left Sunday's game with a left shoulder injury.

The injury is being diagnosed as a "stinger," and Iupati was unable to return to action. With the Niners sitting on 30-point lead in the third quarter, they can afford to play it conservatively.

The 49ers have officially named LG Mike Iupati and RT Anthony Davis as starters.

The Niners had every intention of putting the rookies in the starting lineup, and now they've made it official. "We feel like we've seen enough," coach Mike Singletary said. Adam Snyder moves to second-team tackle, while guard David Baas has been taking snaps at center with the injury to Eric Heitmann.

49ers signed No. 17 overall pick OG Mike Iupati to a five-year, $18.25 million contract, including $10.8 million guaranteed.

Considered the most talented guard prospect to enter the draft in several years, Iupati is a mauling power blocker inside. The former Idaho star will have to cut down on his holding penalties at the NFL level. He already began taking first-team reps during the offseason, so he'll enter camp as the favorite to beat out veteran David Baas at left guard.

49ers first-round picks Mike Iupati and Anthony Davis have begun working in with the first-team offensive line during OTAs.

Out of 42 snaps, Iupati and Davis saw 27 while incumbents David Baas and Adam Snyder saw action on just 15. There's no official changing of the guard, but this appears to be the tipping point for the first-rounders. If they can nail down starting jobs in training camp, it's good news for the Niners' rushing attack.

49ers first-round picks Mike Iupati and Anthony Davis worked with the second-team offensive line during OTA practice Monday.

The Nos. 17 and 11 overall picks, respectively, will have to "earn" starting jobs this offseason, confirmed head coach Mike Singletary. Iupati will attempt to unseat incumbent David Baas at left guard. Davis' competition at right tackle consists of Adam Snyder, and perhaps Barry Sims and Alex Boone.

49ers selected Idaho OG Mike Iupati with the No. 17 pick in the 2010 draft.

Alex Smith receives not only a serious vote of confidence but also a dramatically overhauled offensive line. Give Frank Gore's fantasy stock gets a boost as well, with the addition of a 6'5/330 road-grading power guard. As one of the best guard prospects in years, Iupati should have little problem taking David Baas' left guard job immediately. He will have to cut down on his penchant for holding penalties, however.

According to Wes Bunting of the National Football Post, the Raiders are leaning toward using the No. 8 overall pick on Mike Iupati.

If so, Oakland will likely slot him in at right tackle. They're well setup at left and right guard with Robert Gallery and Cooper Carlisle, respectively. The Raiders go on the clock in a few hours. It appears they're willing to give 290-pound former No. 1 overall pick JaMarcus Russell one last chance.

Talk of Idaho OG Mike Iupati going to the Raiders at No. 8 overall is "picking up steam," according to ESPN's Michael Smith.

Citing "two league sources who know the Raiders well," Smith says the Raiders are now targeting Iupati. The consensus among scouts is that Iupati is best served by staying at guard. It's not surprising, however, that Al Davis' team believes they can make a left tackle out of the one of the best guard prospects of recent years.

Beat writer Armando Salguero believes the Dolphins will seriously consider Idaho OG Mike Iupati at No. 12 overall.

We find this hard to believe. The Dolphins were the first team to host Iupati in mid-March, but guards just don't go that high in the draft. The Dolphins are already shopping Justin Smiley, and they have greater needs at outside linebacker, safety, nose tackle, and wide receiver.

Idaho OG Mike Iupati bench pressed 225 pounds 27 times Friday at the Combine.

Some other rep totals for key linemen: USC LT Charles Brown (21), West Virginia T/G Selvish Capers (19), UMass T/G Vlad Ducasse (29), Rutgers LT Anthony Davis (21), Iowa OT Bryan Bulaga (26). Iupati didn't blow up on the bench press, but 27 reps is very good for the long-armed inside run blocker.

Idaho's Mike Iupati struggled noticeably at right guard in the Senior Bowl.

Iupati played well at left guard, showing nice strength and athleticism to spring Oregon's LaGarrette Blount for a touchdown. On the right side, though, he was dominated by Tennessee NT Dan Williams and Georgia DE Geno Atkins. Billed as a versatile lineman, Iupati may be limited to left guard in the pros.
