Ravens DT Terrence Cody recently underwent hip surgery, but is expected to be 100 percent for training camp.
It's bad timing for a player who's been put on notice after a sub-par 2012. Removed from the starting lineup after just three games last season, Cody is going to have to be healthy and in-shape to be assured of a roster spot this summer. Apr 3 - 6:43 PM

Ravens GM Ozzie Newsome said his biggest priority is upgrading at defensive tackle.

It's a direct shot at Terrence Cody, who lost his starting job to Ma'ake Kemoeatu this season and graded out as the Ravens' worst defensive lineman. Kemoeatu is 34 and an unrestricted free agent, but you can bet that Cody will have competition this offseason. He's never been able to rush the passer and is getting blown off the ball in the run game at the NFL level.

The Baltimore Sun considers former second-round pick Terrence Cody a "bust" through three NFL seasons.

Cody, the 57th overall pick in the 2010 draft, gets pushed around in the run game despite weighing 350-plus pounds and lost his starting job this season to retread veteran Ma'ake Kemoeatu. Cody is under contract for 2013, but he may have to compete for a roster spot in training camp next summer.

Ravens NT Terrence Cody believes he may have lost weight too quickly last offseason.

It's an ominous quote out of context from a player who used to tip the scales at 400 pounds, but Cody is working on gaining muscle, not weight. "Losing that weight last year kind of made me a little weak because I lost it a little too fast," Cody said. "(But) I feel like I am getting a lot stronger. I am feeling good." Coach John Harbaugh raved in April that Cody looked "tremendous."

Ravens NT Terrence Cody has been working out at club headquarters every day since the 2011 season ended.

"He looks tremendous," said John Harbaugh. Cody came out of Alabama in 2010 with a flabby body, but the Ravens have molded him into an emerging star. Now going on age 24, Cody will return as Baltimore's two-down nose tackle.

The Ravens credit NT Terrence Cody for their stout run defense after moving on from Kelly Gregg.

"He dominates in there quite a bit," coach John Harbaugh said. "He is big, he is athletic, he is moving so well, he stays square. ... I know you put him in there with Haloti, and I think our linebackers appreciate having those two guys in the middle." The Ravens have done a commendable job of mixing in young defensive talent to go with Ray Lewis and Ed Reed.

Ravens NT Terrence Cody (concussion) resumed practicing on Thursday.

"I'm playing this week definitely," said Cody. "I'm back to normal. I had a little setback Wednesday, I had a little headache." Cody suffered the concussion after hitting Titans TE Craig Stevens last week. He's passed his baseline tests.

Ravens NT Terrence Cody suffered a concussion in Week 2 and did not return.

The Ravens still held the Titans to 2.55 yards per carry, but were gashed by Matt Hasselbeck and the upstart Tennessee passing game. Cody's status for Week 3 is uncertain. Brandon McKinney is his backup at the nose position.

CSN Baltimore reports Ravens NT Terrence Cody is playing at 335 pounds this season.

It's a huge accomplishment for a player who has ballooned as high as 400 pounds in the past, and was limited to fewer than 150 snaps as a rookie last season due in part to conditioning issues. Christenend the Ravens' starting nose tackle during training camp, Cody played the most snaps of any Ravens defender during Sunday's dismantling of the Steelers. GM Ozzie Newsome's prediction of a breakout year for his second-year lineman is looking more prescient than ever.

Terrence Cody has taken over as the Ravens' starting nose tackle.

"He is the starting nose guard, and we expect there to be no drop-off," said coach John Harbaugh. Kelly Gregg has moved on to K.C., so Cody will now be a full-time player in Baltimore's base defense. (He'll likely come off the field on most passing downs.) A mammoth man at 350 pounds, Cody is nearly impossible to move. The Ravens' run defense will remain among the league's toughest.

Ravens NT Terrence Cody is lighter right now than his playing weight from last season.

Cody's weight will always be a concern, to the point where one local media outlet wondered Sunday morning if he was "surviving the lockout in shape." Beat writer Aaron Wilson notes that Cody looks like he's in "pretty good shape" at players-only workouts. Last year's second-rounder is poised to make good on GM Ozzie Newsome's prediction of a "breakout" season.

Ravens GM Ozzie Newsome anticipates a "breakout" season from second-year NT Terrence Cody.

Baltimore personnel director Eric DeCosta is also extremely high on Cody after a promising first season, saying "we're very, very excited about him." Cody played under 150 snaps last year, but his role is likely to grown by quite a bit in 2011. Starter Kelly Gregg is entering his age-35 season.

Ravens director of player personnel Eric DeCosta heaped praise on NT Terrence Cody following the season.

Cody dealt with a scope on his knee during his rookie campaign, causing him to miss the first three games. But he came on as the season progressed, starting once and making 13 tackles in the two playoff games. "He's a big, strong, physical guy with a ton of upside. We're very, very excited about him," DeCosta said. Mount Cody will be battling veteran Kelly Gregg for snaps again this offseason.

Rookie Terrence Cody is now listed ahead of Brandon McKinney for the backup defensive tackle in Baltimore.

Mount Cody is fully healthy and has made McKinney an afterthought.

Ravens NT Terrence Cody said he's been told he'll make his debut in Week 4.

Cody was inactive Sunday for the third straight week even though he was no longer on the injury report. He said the coaches told him he had a good week of practice before Week 3 and was close to playing, but they wanted to give him one more week. It appears we'll see Mount Cody in Week 4.
