Bills DL Alex Carrington averaged a pressure every 10 pass rushes last season.
Carrington was an underrated force as a rotational lineman behind Kyle Williams and Marcell Dareus in the Bills' 4-3 defense, but his role in new DC Mike Pettine's system remains unclear with the addition of Alan Branch. He previously played both defensive end and outside linebacker in 3-4 packages. May 18 - 6:31 PM

Bills DL Alex Carrington has been a quick study in his transition to defensive tackle.

On the roster bubble entering August, Carrington impressed head coach Chan Gailey with his consistency during camp. Carrington had played both DE and OLB in the Bills 3-4 scheme, and now sits fourth on the DT depth chart behind starters Kyle Williams, Marcell Dareus and nine-year veteran Spencer Johnson.

Bills third-year DT Alex Carrington is entering camp on the roster bubble.

The 72nd pick in the 2010 draft, Carrington worked with Buffalo's third-team defense at OTAs and simply hasn't earned enough playing time for job security. If he did miss the cut, Carrington would be an attractive waiver claim for 3-4 teams.

Former Bills third-round pick Alex Carrington is working as a third-team defensive tackle at OTAs.

The 6-foot-5, 305-pound Carrington was drafted with the 72nd overall pick in 2010, when the Bills were still trying to implement a 3-4 defense. He was a "five technique," defensive end prospect. Carrington struggled in roughly 490 defensive snaps last season, and his role may further decline this year.

Alex Carrington has been working as an outside linebacker throughout Bills training camp.

Carrington spent his rookie year as a defensive end. Now he's set to back up Shawne Merriman and Chris Kelsay at outside 'backer while maintaining the versatility to play the 3-4 end spot.

The Buffalo News mentions 2010 third-round pick Alex Carrington as one of the main reasons for DE Marcus Stroud's Wednesday release.

The 72nd overall pick last year, Carrington graded out positively as a run defender and didn't embarrass himself as a pass rusher per Pro Football Focus' 2010 ratings. At 6'5/284 with power, Carrington's skill set and build are ideal fits for a 3-4 defensive end. He'll likely be a starter in 2011.

Bills signed third-round DE Alex Carrington to a four-year contract, including a signing bonus of roughly $870,000.

Buffalo didn't do a good job of fixing its offensive holes during April's draft, but we were at least impressed with the team's defensive additions. Along with second-round NT Torrell Troup, Carrington is a power player who will immediately push for significant snaps as a two-gap defensive end. Carrington can also rush the passer, and was a star at Senior Bowl practices.

Bills selected Arkansas State DE Alex Carrington with the No. 72 pick in the NFL draft.

That's two straight picks for defensive coordinator George Edwards, with Carrington slotting in as a 3-4 end. The small-school prospect vaulted up draft boards after showing disruptive ability and power in dominant Senior Bowl practices. With Marcus Stroud, Spencer Johnson, Justin Bannan, and Dwan Edwards at end, the Bills can afford to let Carrington develop.

Arkansas State DE Alex Carrington recorded forty times of 4.93 and 4.97 at his pro day workout on Thursday.

Carrington was injured for Arkansas State's March 17 pro day, hence the delay. He also recorded a 33-inch vertical jump, 10'2" broad jump, 4.81 short shuttle, and 7.64 three-cone drill. Combined with an impressive Senior Bowl performance, the athletic lineman has vaulted into second- or third-round consideration.

According to SI.com's Tony Pauline, Arkansas State DE Alex Carrington was the best defensive player on the practice field during Senior Bowl week.

Pauline says Carrington could be a top-60 pick after entering the week with a projected mid-round grade. The 6'5/284-pound small-school prospect has abnormally short arms for his size, but showed disruptive ability and plenty of power. Carrington could play LE in a 4-3 scheme or five technique in a 3-4.
