The Bengals will try out free agent QB Tony Pike at their upcoming minicamp.
The Bengals haven't been good at much in recent years, but helping out hometown stars has always been a strength. A former UC Bearcat, Pike's tryout could be on a "favor" only basis, to try to get his name back on the NFL's radar. Pike was not picked up after being waived by Carolina last August. Panthers released QB Tony Pike with an injury settlement.

Pike is recovering from surgery on his throwing elbow. A sixth-round pick in 2010, he showed very little on the practice field before recurring arm injuries.

Panthers QB Tony Pike is out indefinitely after undergoing surgery on his right (throwing) elbow.

Pike already had almost no shot at making the Panthers' roster, and this should formally crush whatever little chance he had. A sixth-round pick last year, Pike appeared in one game, completing 6-of-12 passes for 47 yards.

Panthers QB Tony Pike is in California to see a specialist for his throwing shoulder.

Pike hasn't been right since December of last year. As the fourth quarterback, he has almost no shot of making the final roster.

Panthers QB Tony Pike has been sidelined early in camp with shoulder inflammation.

It sounds like a continuation of the injury that ended Pike's rookie season in early December. The 2010 sixth-rounder won't throw for awhile. He was already facing long odds to make the final roster.

Panthers placed QB Tony Pike (shoulder) on injured reserve, ending his season.

One of the Panthers' sixth-round picks this year, Pike must have injured his right (throwing) shoulder in practice at some point. He was also brittle at Cincinnati. Pike ends his rookie season with 47 yards on 6-of-12 passing and no touchdowns or interceptions. With a new coaching staff coming to Carolina next year, Pike's future with the franchise is murky at best.

Darin Gantt of the Rock Hill Herald confirms that rookie Tony Pike is expected to be the Panthers' starting quarterback in Week 11.

The Panthers have been one of the more cautious teams with concussions, and Jimmy Clausen suffered one at the end of their Week 10 loss. Pike, a sixth-round pick out of Cincinnati, only narrowly beat out current Ravens practice squad QB Hunter Cantwell for a roster spot in Panthers camp and will get a rude introduction against the Ravens on Sunday. It's fair to wonder at this point if the Panthers might be better off running a Wildcat-heavy offense with Armanti Edwards at the helm. Fire up Baltimore's fantasy defense.

Tony Pike came on for an ineffective Jimmy Clausen in the fourth quarter of Sunday's blowout loss to the Saints.

Pike, a sixth-round pick out of Cincinnati, completed 6-of-12 passes for 47 yards in his debut. Considering that he started the day as the emergency third quarterback, Pike performed decently. However, if Matt Moore (shoulder) can't go next week, we'd expect Clausen to get another chance.

Tony Pike is expected to be among the final cuts for the Panthers.

The Panthers feel that Hunter Cantwell is more ready to play. Pike will be playing for his spot on a practice squad elsewhere in Thursday night's preseason finale. The sixth-round pick will likely clear waivers this weekend.

The Bengals are expected to show interest in QB Tony Pike if the Panthers try to sneak him through waivers early next month.

Pike is fourth on the depth chart, and there are no signs that he'll move up before cut-down day. He starred locally at the University of Cincinnati, and he makes for a more interesting development quarterback than Jordan Palmer.

Panthers signed sixth-round QB Tony Pike to a multi-year contract.

Once considered a potential third-rounder, Pike is now in danger of not making the team after falling behind due to the University of Cincinnati's June graduation date. With Hunter Cantwell giving Jimmy Clausen all he can handle for the primary backup job, Pike appears practice squad bound as a rookie.

Sixth-round QB Tony Pike resumed practicing again on Tuesday after his classes finally ended at the University of Cincinnati.

Two weeks behind fellow rookie Jimmy Clausen, Pike arrived just in time to work on no-huddle drills. With strong-armed Hunter Cantwell impressing this spring, Pike could be headed for the practice squad as a rookie.

Panthers selected Cincinnati QB Tony Pike with the No. 204 overall pick in the 2010 NFL Draft.

Pike led UC to an undefeated regular season last year, but played in Brian Kelly's spread offense, is awfully brittle, and needs to put on quite a bit of weight. He was up to 6'6/223 at the Combine a couple of months back. Carolina isn't a great landing spot for Pike, who will compete with Hunter Cantwell to be third string behind youngsters Matt Moore and Jimmy Clausen.

Cincinnati QB Tony Pike measured 6'6/223 at his Combine weigh-in Friday.

He's gained 11 pounds since weighing 212 at last month's Senior Bowl. Pike will likely continue to add weight before the draft, and should probably be targeting at least 230 pounds. He was highly injury prone in college.
