Jets signed OLB Ricky Sapp off their practice squad.
Sapp, a 2010 fifth-round pick of the Eagles, was waived by the Jets at final cuts. He now swaps spots on the active roster with S Antonio Allen, who cleared waivers and is now on the practice squad. The Jets rank 29th in the league with just 12 sacks on the season. Coach Rex Ryan says Sapp will be active for a situational pass-rushing role this week. Thu, Nov 8, 2012 11:13:00 AM

Jets waived or released OLB Ricky Sapp, WR Joseph Collins, CB Donnie Fletcher, CB LeQuan Lewis, OL Paul Cornick, OL Fred Koloto, DB Julian Posey, DL Jay Richardson, TE Tarren Lloyd, WR Eron Riley, DL Damon Harrison, DL Martin Tevaseu, DB D'Anton Lynn, LB Marcus Dowtin, QB Matt Simms, P Spencer Lanning and OL Matt Kroul.

Sapp had been limited by a high ankle sprain this month. The oft-injured 2010 fifth-round Eagles pick is a candidate for the practice squad, along with Harrison and Dowtin. As of now, the Jets plan on keeping FB John "The Terminator" Connor despite a poor camp.

Jets promoted OLB Ricky Sapp from their practice squad.

The Jets succeeded in turning around Aaron Maybin's career, and hope to do the same with Sapp. Once thought of as a future first-round pick at Clemson, knee woes have dogged Sapp since he entered the pros as the Eagles' fifth-rounder in 2010. He's transitioning from defensive end to outside 'backer.

The Jets worked out free agent DE/OLB Ricky Sapp and free agent WR/KR Dexter Jackson Tuesday.

As previously reported, the Jets also worked out free agent TE Shawn Nelson. According to the New York Daily News' Manish Mehta, the Jets are "very interested" in signing Sapp. A former second-round pick, Jackson has not appeared in an NFL game since 2008.

Eagles waived DE Ricky Sapp.

Sapp reported back to camp a day after leaving without an excuse. Upon return, he was informed he'd be waived. Once a dominant pass rusher at Clemson, knee injuries have left Sapp with little explosion in his legs. Perhaps a team will claim him on waivers, but it's hard to imagine that he'd have much to offer.

Eagles placed DE Ricky Sapp on the reserve/left squad list.

The Eagles are deep at end after adding Jason Babin, so they're not too worried about Sapp. He apparently did the same thing last year, making it surprising he still has a job. This time, Sapp's spot on the roster figures to be in real jeopardy. Chronic knee problems have been the biggest threat to Sapp's career.

Eagles DE/OLB Ricky Sapp underwent surgery on his right knee Tuesday.

Sapp, who was placed on injured reserve last week, had an arthroscopic debridement to remove dead, damaged, or infected tissue on the same knee that was surgically reconstructed two years ago. A fifth-round pick in the 2010 draft, Sapp will be back to compete for a roster spot in 2011.

Eagles placed DE Ricky Sapp (knee) on injured reserve, ending his season.

Sapp fell from a first-round prospect all the way to the fifth round in April's draft due to concerns about his surgically repaired knee. They were warranted. Once a dominant pass rusher in the ACC, Sapp's NFL outlook is bleak. He'll need more surgery, and may never recover his explosiveness.

Eagles DE/OLB Ricky Sapp recently underwent an MRI on his surgically repaired knee.

There have been concerns that he's had a setback with the knee, and getting an MRI would seem to confirm that. The Eagles said they're still evaluating him. We wouldn't be surprised to see Sapp wind up on injured reserve, as he's been disappointing when able to play, anyway.

Eagles rookie DE/OLB Ricky Sapp reportedly had a "slight setback" in his surgically repaired knee during training camp.

Sapp hasn't played much in camp, and he's looked "overwhelmed" when he has taken the field. The Philadelphia Inquirer suggests the fifth-rounder could be stashed on injured reserve for his rookie season.

Eagles defensive coordinator Sean McDermott confirmed that rookie Ricky Sapp will begin his career at defensive end.

Initial reports had Sapp ticketed for linebacker, but he's going to practice on the line in training camp. He won't be counted on for a big first-year impact.

Eagles signed fifth-round DE/OLB Ricky Sapp to a four-year contract.

Originally projected as a top-50 pick, Sapp slid due to concerns about his surgically repaired knee and a vague reputation as an underachiever. A tweener in the Eagles' 4-3 scheme, he'll see most of his playing time in the "Joker" position previously manned by undersized Chris Clemons and Jason Babin.

Although rookie Ricky Sapp will start his Eagles career as a defensive end, he's slated to see snaps at strong-side linebacker in minicamp this weekend.

Sapp (6'4/252) is ideally suited to outside linebacker in a 3-4 scheme, but the Eagles decided to draft him and worry about his position later. He'll likely end up in the "Joker" position that undersized Chris Clemons and Jason Babin played the past two years.

Eagles selected Clemson DE Ricky Sapp with the No. 134 overall pick in the 2010 draft.

Originally considered a late first-round or early second-round pick, Sapp fell due to concerns about a torn ACL suffered at the end of his junior season. His admission that he played his entire senior season at 60 percent didn't help. If healthy, Sapp is one of the best pass rushers in the draft. He's ideally suited to a 3-4 scheme, but the Eagles may ask him to bulk up to stick at defensive end.

NFL Network's Mike Mayock said on Monday's Path to the Draft program that Clemson DE Ricky Sapp will probably last until round three.

If so, it'd likely be due to concerns about Sapp's knee, in which he tore the ACL at the end of his junior season. When healthy, Sapp is widely considered a first-round talent and ideal fit for 3-4 teams as a rush linebacker. Sapp admitted at the Combine that he played his whole senior year at 60 percent.
