Speaking at the Combine, coach John Fox gave J.D Walton (ankle surgery) a vote of confidence as the Broncos' starting center.
Walton fractured his ankle in late September. The Broncos don't seem concerned any longer with Walton's recovery. "He's definitely the starter," Fox confirmed. "And that's the way he'll start the season when we form back up. Like everywhere, he still has to compete, but that's the starting point." Feb 21 - 2:20 PM

Broncos C J.D. Walton triggered an escalator in his rookie deal, raising his 2013 salary from $575,000 to $1.323 million.

Walton started the first 36 games of his career before fracturing his ankle in Week 4 of 2012, an injury that landed him on injured reserve. Entering the final year of his contract, Walton should re-assume his starting duties with veteran Dan Koppen ticketed for free agency.

Broncos placed C J.D. Walton on injured reserve with a fractured ankle, ending his season.

It's a tough blow for the Broncos, but they have a readymade replacement in veteran Dan Koppen. Koppen missed just one game for the Patriots between 2006-10 before a broken leg limited him to one game in 2011. Walton had previously missed only one snap after joining the Broncos as a third-round pick in 2010, but had a tough 2011 before getting off to a solid start this season. He's signed through 2013.

Broncos C J.D. Walton is likely out for the season after breaking his ankle in Sunday's Week 4 win over the Raiders.

Walton was blocking for Lance Ball when he got rolled up on from behind by Raiders DE Jack Crawford. Walton had previously missed just one snap in his three-year career. Ex-Patriot Dan Koppen will slide into the lineup and won't be much of a downgrade. Interestingly enough, Koppen's first start of the season will come against his former team.

Broncos C J.D. Walton was forced from Sunday's game against the Raiders with an ankle injury, and will not return.

Walton's injury must be serious, as he's never missed a start since entering the league as a third-round pick in 2010. He couldn't put any weight on his leg as he walked off the field. Dan Koppen is now in the game at center for the Broncos.

The Broncos are expected to keep J.D. Walton as their starting center in 2012.

Denver expressed some interest in C Jeff Saturday, but Peyton Manning's former teammate claims the Packers "wanted him more". Walton was Pro Football Focus' worst-rated center in 2011, but the lack of enthusiastic interest in Saturday hints Denver isn't ready to give up on the former 80th overall pick in the draft.

Broncos signed third-round C J.D. Walton to a four-year contract. Per the National Football Post, Walton will receive $2.58 million with a $798,500 signing bonus.

The second center off the board in April's draft, Walton has already lined up with the first-team offense during OTAs. Veteran Russ Hochstein (ACL surgery) will return in training camp, pushing both Walton at center and second-rounder Zane Beadles at left guard.

The Broncos have installed third-round pick J.D. Walton as their starting center during OTAs.

He didn't have trouble overtaking Dustin Fry. Russ Hochstein might be with the ones if he wasn't coming off a torn ACL, but Walton is the favorite to start as it stands. His nasty mentality fits Denver's new power-blocking scheme.

Broncos selected Baylor C J.D. Walton with the No. 80 pick in the 2010 draft.

Denver failed to land Maurkice Pouncey, but they did well to grab arguably the No. 2 center in the draft. The Broncos were left without a natural center on the roster when Casey Wiegmann signed with the Chiefs, so Walton should slot right into the starting lineup. Zane Beadles, drafted in the second round, is likely ticketed for guard. The Broncos have done a nice job of upgrading the interior line.

NFL reporter John McClain hears from "trusted scouts" that Baylor C J.D. Walton will be a second-round pick in April.

Walton, who goes 6'2/300, may be pushing to be the No. 2 center prospect in the draft behind Florida's Maurkice Pouncey. Walton started every game of his college career and made first-team All America over Pouncey last season.
