Bears signed TE Tony Moeaki to a one-year contract.
The Bears have been searching for help for a thin tight end group, but Moeaki will only provide it until he suffers a soft-tissue injury in camp. He's a major long-shot to crack the 53-man roster. Jun 16 - 2:50 PM

Free agent TE Tony Moeaki worked out for the Bears on Thursday.

The Bears are looking for tight end depth behind starter Zach Miller. Moeaki appeared in 11 games for Atlanta last year, tallying three catches for 58 yards and a touchdown. The 29-year-old Illinois native has only exceeded 500 receiving yards once since entering the league as a third-round pick in 2010. Former Packers TE Ryan Taylor also worked out for the Bears on Thursday.

Falcons signed TE Tony Moeaki.

With Jacob Tamme dealing with a concussion, the Falcons needed some depth at tight end. Moeaki has spent the last month recovering from an ankle injury. He'll back up Levine Toilolo.

Falcons released TE Tony Moeaki.

Moeaki couldn't beat out Jacob Tamme or Levine Toilolo. Getting cut from Atlanta's weak depth chart puts his future in doubt. The Falcons also waived/released WR Carlton Mitchell, LB Stansly Maponga, CB Akeem King, OL Eric Lefeld, NT Joey Mbu, OL Pierce Burton, LB/DE Tyler Starr, OG Adam Replogle, and TE D.J. Tialavea.

Falcons TE Tony Moeaki will enter training camp healthy.

It's more surprising when Moeaki is actually intact than when he's sidelined. The talented athlete has dealt with elbow, hand, leg, concussion, ACL, shoulder and hamstring issues in his career, resulting in him bouncing around the fringe of rosters. Still only 28, Moeaki will try to stay healthy and beat out favorite Jacob Tamme for pass-catching tight end duties in August.

Falcons signed TE Tony Moeaki, formerly of the Seahawks, to a one-year contract.

Moeaki ended 2014 with the Seahawks, catching eight passes in six games while battling calf and shoulder ailments. He missed the Bills' entire preseason with a hamstring issue. Moeaki can block and has always had loads of pass-catching talent, but has struggled with durability as much as anyone in the league. He's reuniting with ex-Seahawks DC Dan Quinn in Atlanta. Moeaki will have to have a healthy camp to ensure a spot on the Falcons' 53-man roster.

Seahawks TE Tony Moeaki was held catch-less in Super Bowl XLIX.

The Seahawks used frequent three- and four-wide formations in this one instead of two-tight end sets. Behind Luke Willson on the depth chart, Moeaki barely played. A journeyman at this point in his career, Moeaki is still only 27, but has had problems staying healthy since college. He finished the 2014 regular season with an 8-134-1 receiving line, playing in six games for Seattle and starting two. Moeaki will become a free agent in March.

Seahawks TE Tony Moeaki is a game-time decision for the Divisional Round with a calf injury.

It's not newsworthy in and of itself — Moeaki's presence isn't going to affect the Seahawks' odds of beating the Panthers either way — but is further proof of his astonishing inability to stay healthy. Frail throughout his Chiefs tenure, Moeaki has now battled calf and shoulder issues since joining Seattle in early November. Moeaki is still only 28 (in June), and has an alluring raw skill-set, but his health is running him out of the league.

Seahawks TEs Tony Moeaki (shoulder) and Cooper Helfet (ankle) have resumed practicing.

Moeaki likely would have been headed to injured reserve were he not ready to practice this week for the playoff-bound Seahawks. With Moeaki and Helfet both sidelined in Week 16, starter Luke Willson went off against the Cardinals.

Tony Moeaki (shoulder) is inactive for Sunday night's Week 16 game against the Cardinals.

Moeaki was a long shot to play after not practicing all week. Luke Willson will start, with Cooper Helfet playing in two-tight end sets. Also inactive for Seattle are WR Chris Matthews, C Max Unger, DT Travian Robertson, LT Russell Okung, WR Kevin Norwood, and DE Demarcus Dobbs.
