Cardinals GM Steve Keim said he hasn't talked about ILB Daryl Washington "for a minute" since his suspension.
The Cardinals are steamed at Washington for getting a year-long ban as a result of a marijuana violation. "You can accept a player being injured because that's going to happen, but when off-field issues come about, those are unacceptable," Keim said. The GM went on to say that they'll discuss bringing Washington back after the season, but sounded skeptical that he can stay out of trouble long enough to get reinstated. The league office hasn't even handed down punishment yet for the aggravated assault charges Washington plead guilty to. Sep 1 - 8:39 AM

The Cardinals are reportedly "fuming" over suspended ILB Daryl Washington's latest substance abuse violation, and are preparing to go after his $10 million option bonus.

The Cardinals activated Washington's $10 million bonus in March, but none of that money has actually been paid. They'll stash him on the reserve-suspended list and challenge his right to that money. It's hard to feel sympathy for the Cardinals here -- Washington was already a multiple violator of the policy at the time of the activation, and was also pleading guilty to aggravated assault charges after choking the mother of his daughter.

Suspended ILB Daryl Washington revealed his minimum one-year suspension is for a marijuana violation.

Washington's 2013 four-game ban was for violating the NFL's drug test policy, so he's now a multiple violator. And to reiterate, Washington has not yet faced any league discipline for his guilty plea to felony aggravated assault. We wouldn't expect to see 27-year-old Washington playing football again anytime soon.

NFL suspended Cardinals ILB Daryl Washington for "at least" a year for violations of the league's substance abuse policy.

FOX Sports 910 in Arizona first had the report, and it's now confirmed. The NFL announced this suspension is specifically for substance abuse violations and "unrelated to Washington’s recent plea bargain for an assault charge," which perhaps explains why the announcement was "at least" a year. (He could face further discipline.) Washington was also suspended four games in 2013 for substance abuse violations. A dynamic coverage linebacker, pass rusher, and run defender, Washington's ban is an enormous blow to Arizona's defense. They'll turn to sophomore Kevin Minter and Steelers retread Larry Foote as underwhelming replacements.
May 30 - 1:14 PM

FOX Sports 910 in Arizona reports Cardinals ILB Daryl Washington will be suspended for the entire 2014 season.

Washington pled guilty to aggravated assault last month after he choked out the mother of his daughter, causing her to fall and break her collarbone. Commissioner Roger Goodell is dropping the hammer on Washington if this report proves to be true. Washington was suspended four games at the start of 2013, but that was for a violation of the substance-abuse policy. This impending ban falls under the personal conduct policy. It's a massive blow to the Arizona defense. Washington was a stud in coverage next to Karlos Dansby last season and received excellent marks as a run defender and pass rusher from Pro Football Focus in 2012. Kevin Minter and Larry Foote will have to pick up the slack. Minter played just one defensive snap as a rookie.

Mike Jurecki of Fox Sports 910 in Arizona hears Daryl Washington's suspension could be longer than expected.

Last month, Washington pled guilty to aggravated assault charges after allegedly choking the mother of his daughter, causing her to fall and break a collarbone. It's a violation of the personal conduct policy. The length of his impending suspension is murky because the four-game ban he served at the outset of last season was for a violation of the substance abuse policy. It sounds like commissioner Roger Goodell is going to try to impose a stiff punishment to the dynamic inside linebacker.

Cardinals ILB Daryl Washington has been sentenced to one year of probation for aggravated assault.

Washington was accused of choking the mother of his daughter, causing her to fall and break a collarbone. He pleaded guilty and now that the case has been closed, commissioner Roger Goodell can step in with discipline via the league's Personal Conduct Policy. We fully expect him to do so, likely with a multi-game ban. The Cardinals played without Washington for the first four games of last season due to a substance-abuse policy suspension, going 2-2. They went 8-4 after getting their dynamic, difference-making inside 'backer on the field.

Cardinals ILB Daryl Washington pleaded guilty on Monday to his aggravated assault charge.

Washington was accused of breaking his ex-girlfriend's collarbone in a domestic dispute last May. He'd already been suspended four games to open the 2013 season at the time, although that was for substance abuse violations. Still, Washington is certainly at risk of more discipline after a guilty plea to a serious charge. He will be sentenced on April 23. When available, Washington is a high-impact blitzer and run defender in the Navorro Bowman mold.
Mar 24 - 3:28 PM

The Cardinals paid ILB Daryl Washington his $10 million option bonus Thursday.

After multiple off-field incidents last offseason, there was some question as to whether the Cardinals would pay Washington. They've decided to keep the difference-making inside 'backer. He'll be leaned on heavily after ILB Karlos Dansby left the desert for Cleveland. Washington is an every-down player who can rush the passer and is elite in coverage. He's under contract through 2017.
Mar 13 - 1:28 PM

The Cardinals are expected to pay ILB Daryl Washington's $10 million option bonus.

Although Washington is a risk due to his off-field issues, the Cardinals don't have much of a choice. He's a dominating difference-maker at the inside linebacker spot and Karlos Dansby may walk as a free agent. By paying Washington his bonus, the Cards will keep him under contract through 2017.
Jan 1 - 1:04 PM

Coach Bruce Arians confirmed ILB Daryl Washington will start Sunday's Week 5 game against the Panthers.

Washington won't be eased back into the fold off his four-game suspension. "There's no time. It's full go," Arians said Tuesday. "He's got 12 games to make it up for us." IDP owners should immediately get Washington into lineups. Meanwhile, the Pro Bowler is likely facing another suspension in 2014 once his domestic incident is resolved in the courts.

Cardinals ILB Daryl Washington's four-game suspension for substance-abuse violations is over.

He should immediately reenter the starting lineup next to Karlos Dansby, upgrading Arizona's interior pass rush and coverage in the flats. Washington has been a dynamic inside 'backer, recording nine sacks last season and playing every snap. Look for two-down thumper Jasper Brinkley to go to the bench.

The NFL denied Cardinals ILB Daryl Washington's four-game suspension appeal.

Washington was suspended for violating the league's substance-abuse policy, and he'll be eligible to return in Week 5. Some combination of Karlos Dansby, Jasper Brinkley, and Kevin Minter will handle inside 'backer duties while he's out.

Cardinals ILB Daryl Washington will meet with league officials on Monday in an effort to have his four-game suspension reduced.

However, Washington "won’t have an audience with commissioner Roger Goodell." That would seem to make his odds of getting a shorter ban slim-to-none. Washington is highly unlikely to take the field before Week 5.
Wed, Aug 7, 2013 11:04:00 PM

Cardinals ILB Daryl Washington's next court date is scheduled for August 6.

Washington was arrested in early May on two counts of aggravated assault. He had his pretrial conference with the Maricopa County Superior Court last week. It's uncertain how long this will play out in court, but there's a chance he could be given an additional suspension on top of his previously handed down four-game ban for violating the league's substance abuse policy.
