The Cleveland Plain Dealer says the Browns' new coaching staff is "spending a lot of time" evaluating Montario Hardesty.
Hardesty is due $575,000 entering his contract year. The Browns are reportedly looking for a change-of-pace back behind Trent Richardson, and it remains to be seen if Hardesty can be that guy. Impending free agent Brandon Jackson isn't expected back, and plodder Chris Ogbonnaya is a restricted free agent. Feb 10 - 11:38 AM

Starting in place of an injured Trent Richardson, Montario Hardesty rushed 14 times for just 37 yards at Pittsburgh in Week 17.

Hardesty showed impressive burst on a 16-yard first quarter scamper but was bottled up by a stout run Steelers front seven the rest of the way. Richardson's change-of-pace back posted 303 yards on 65 carries (4.66 YPC) in the best season of his three-year career. Signed for $575,000 in 2013, Hardesty will likely be back in the same role under a new coaching staff.

Montario Hardesty will start at running back on Sunday against the Steelers with Trent Richardson (ankle) ruled out.

Hardesty is in line to get a heavy dose of carries with Thad Lewis starting at quarterback in place of Brandon Weeden (shoulder). Brandon Jackson will work in as the change-of-pace back behind Hardesty. For those fantasy leagues that run through Week 17, Hardesty would be a decent pick-up as he's sure to see a full slate of work.

Montario Hardesty rushed three times for 14 yards in Cleveland's Week 16 loss to the Broncos, adding one catch for seven yards.

A typical day for Hardesty, though he could be in for a much bigger workload in Week 17 after Trent Richardson departed late with a leg injury. If your league didn't end today, Hardesty is worth a flier on the waiver wire.

Montario Hardesty rushed just two times for five yards in the Browns' Week 15 loss to the Redskins.

Trent Richardson continues to plod his way through the second half of the season, but the Browns have no intention of lightening the rookie's workload. Hardesty is nothing more than a handcuff heading into next week's game at Denver.

Montario Hardesty rushed ten times for 52 yards in the Browns' Week 14 win over Kansas City.

Hardesty's run of the game came on a 25-yard fourth-quarter gain after a nice cutback. Hardesty looked more fluid in the open field than we've seen him appear to be in previous seasons, providing a strong change-of-pace complement to Trent Richardson. Hardesty remains unworthy of a fantasy roster spot as the Browns enter the final three games of their season.

Montario Hardesty rushed three times for three yards in the Browns' Week 8 win over the Chargers.

Hardesty only saw the field when workhorse Trent Richardson was gassed. Now that the first-round rookie has proved the health of his ribs, Hardesty is just a weak handcuff in fantasy.

Montario Hardesty (knee) is listed as "probable" for Sunday's game against the Chargers.

Hardesty is ready to go, but Trent Richardson (ribs) is on track to start. If that happens, Hardesty will be nearly impossible to trust in fantasy formats. A healthy Richardson will garner at least 60 percent of the workload and the Chargers have the league's No. 2 run defense.

Montario Hardesty (knee) was limited in Browns practice for the second straight day Thursday.

There's been no indication Hardesty's knee issue is serious. The Browns are likely just managing his reps after he got in his first 22 carries of the season the past two weeks. Hardesty should be ready for a limited role behind Trent Richardson if T-Rich is ready to go against the Chargers, but he won't be more than a desperation flex option.

Montario Hardesty (knee) was a limited participant in Wednesday's practice.

With Trent Richardson (ribs) banged up, Cleveland is exercising caution with his backup. The Browns are almost certainly trying to limit Hardesty's reps after his increased workload over the last two weeks.

Montario Hardesty rushed seven times for 28 yards in the Browns' Week 7 loss to Indianapolis.

He did not play at all in the passing game. While Hardesty has generated some odd buzz over the past two weeks, his workload is completely dependent on Trent Richardson getting hurt, he doesn't catch passes, and he's not a big-play runner. Even if Richardson missed Week 8 against San Diego, Hardesty would be a low-end flex option losing passing-down work to Chris Ogbonnaya.

The Canton Repository expects Montario Hardesty to get a "healthy playing shift" at Indianapolis on Sunday.

Beat writer Steve Doerschuk cites Hardesty's Week 6 success, the Colts "sorry run defense," and Trent Richardson's tender ribs as reasons for the increased workload. Of all the backups that saw extensive action last week, Hardesty and Felix Jones were the most impressive on film. With Richardson due to start, Hardesty is just a desperation flex option this week.

Coach Pat Shurmur had high praise for Montario Hardesty following last week's win over the Bengals.

Operating in relief of Trent Richardson (ribs), Hardesty posted a 15/56/1 line. "He was running the ball hard and he was making quick decisions and he was gettin' it and hittin' it," Shurmur said Monday. "I was very impressed with his running style last night." With Richardson questionable for Week 7, Hardesty is squarely on the waiver-wire radar this week.

Montario Hardesty rushed 15 times for 56 yards with a touchdown and added a nine-yard catch in the Browns' Week 6 win over the Bengals.

Hardesty was solid in relief of Trent Richardson (rib). He got what was blocked, ran with power and punched in a one-yard touchdown. Chris Ogbonnaya handled all the third downs, even before Richardson left. Richardson does say he'll be able to play next week, but we'll know more after a Monday MRI. Hardesty is worth an add in the meantime.

Montario Hardesty played his first offensive snap of the season in the Browns' Week 5 loss to the Giants.

Hardesty has plummeted down the depth chart behind Trent Richardson and Chris Ogbonnaya, ahead of only Brandon Jackson, who is a weekly healthy scratch. Hardesty did not touch the football against the G-Men and is off the fantasy radar.
