Jaguars DE Austen Lane (foot) has been ruled out for Week 13.
With Lane out, newly acquired DE Jason Babin could get the start in his Jaguars debut. Coach Mike Mularkey was noncommittal on Babin's role. "We just have to make sure he’s on board with the calls and [stunts]. I don’t have a concern with that," Mularkey said. Babin notoriously struggled to produce fantasy relevant numbers with the Eagles this season. Despite the change of scenery, it's tough to trust him in IDP leagues. Sat, Dec 1, 2012 09:24:00 AM

Jaguars LE Austen Lane (ankle) is now expected to miss three weeks.

Lane's sprain is worse than anticipated. Originally scheduled to return in mid-August, the projected starting left end is now targeting early September. Expect a rotation with impressive second-round rookie Andre Branch.

Jaguars DE Austen Lane is expected to miss two weeks due to a foot sprain.

Lane was penciled in as the Jags starting left end. His absence will give second-round rookie Andre Branch and George Selvie a chance to close ground.

Austen Lane is currently working as the Jaguars' starting left end.

Position coach Joe Cullen recently said he's expecting "six, seven sacks" from Lane this season. He's getting the first shot at the starting job opposite Jeremy Mincey, but second-round pick Andre Branch, who figures to play a significant role regardless, will be on his heels. George Selvie is also in the mix.

The Jaguars expect DE Austen Lane to take a "major step forward" in his third NFL season.

Jags defensive line coach Joe Cullen envisions Lane going "from a sack, sack-and-a-half to getting six, seven sacks" if all goes as planned. Lane appeared in just six games last season, before suffering a significant shoulder injury. Now cleared to play by Dr. James Andrews, Lane will compete for playing time at left defensive end.

Jaguars DE Austen Lane suffered a serious shoulder injury in Week 6 against the Steelers.

Lane will be placed on injured reserve, ending his season. The 2010 fifth-rounder was a situational pass rusher behind Matt Roth and Jeremy Mincey this season. His snaps were likely going to decrease with Aaron Kampman returning. Lane should be back to battle for a roster spot in 2012.

Jaguars DL coach Joe Cullen confirmed that Austen Lane is penciled in as the team's starting left end.

Derrick Harvey has fallen out of favor and may go on the trade block before the season. "I think he’ll make some improvement in his pass rush," Cullen said of Lane. "He was close a lot, and didn’t finish. I think with some added weight he’s going to be a real solid left end who can play every down." Lane finished 2010, his rookie year, with 20 tackles and no sacks in nine starts.

Rookie Austen Lane has taken over Aaron Kampman's spot as the Jaguars' right defensive end.

Lane is starting opposite Jeremy Mincey with Derrick Harvey remaining in a reserve role. Both starters failed to muster a pass rush against the Texans last week, and we wouldn't expect much the rest of the way, either.

Jaguars signed fifth-round DE Austen Lane to a four-year contract, including a $184,000 signing bonus.

A tremendously gifted athlete and productive collegiate, Lane presumably lasted until the fifth round of April's draft due to competition concerns after playing at Murray State. Still possessing the ideal set of skills for a three-down left end, Lane should push Derrick Harvey immediately for snaps.

Jaguars.com's Vic Ketchman expects fifth-round pick Austen Lane to give Derrick Harvey "some serious competition" to be the team's starting left end.

Lane was an incredibly productive college pass rusher at Murray State, and at 6'6/274 possesses an ideal build to play strong-side end in the Jaguars' 4-3 defense. Harvey has shown very little as a rusher. At the least, Harvey is expected to be replaced by Lane or Larry Hart on passing downs.

Jaguars fifth-round pick Austen Lane is expected to back up Derrick Harvey at left end and replace him on passing downs.

Harvey is stout against the run, so this should give the Jags a decent rotation. And with Aaron Kampman manning the right end spot, Jacksonville's pass rush should be vastly improved. And for fun, here's a draft-day quote from Lane: "My first goal is to hurt the quarterback. I don't want to just sack the quarterback. I want to hurt somebody. I want to cause pain." Easy there, Clubber Lang.

Murray State DE Austen Lane ran 4.89 and 4.98 in the forty-yard dash at the Racers' Pro Day.

He also had a 4.44 short shuttle and performed 20 reps of 225 pounds. A dominant small school pass rusher who goes 6'6/274, Lane will likely convert to defensive tackle if he's drafted by a 4-3 team, or five-technique end if he lands in a 3-4. He's a late second- to third-round prospect.
