Stitser, 26, made 7-of-8 field goal tries in Cincinnati last year, but shanked two PATs. He's not an upgrade on old Graham Gano competitor Shayne Graham.

Cutting Stitser is a positive sign for Mike Nugent, who is returning from reconstructive knee surgery. Shay went undrafted in 2010 after earning all All-SEC honors at Mississippi.

Stitser takes over for Aaron Pettrey, who was cut Tuesday after missing two easy kicks in his two-game stint as Mike Nugent's replacement. Stitser didn't last long in Jets offseason practices, so expectations should be very low on his field goal accuracy.

Stitser did himself more harm than good in his short time with the Jets. He has a strong leg but needs to build confidence before getting another shot.

Coach Rex Ryan said that the Jets are going to "move on" from K Clint Stitser.

Stitser has been atrocious in offseason practices, not even giving Nick Folk a push. "He's not ready right now," said Ryan. Look for the Jets to bring in someone else shortly.

Jets kicking hopeful Clint Stitser was "borderline brutal" in Thursday's practice.

It's hard to imagine how bad Stitser had to be to earn that description after Nick Folk missed his first four kicks. Rex Ryan admitted to being concerned about his kicking situation after practice. Stitser will go before Folk if the Jets make a move.

The strong-legged former Fresno State Bulldog has been out of football the past two years. He figures to compete with Nick Folk for the kicking job, as the Jets seem willing to gamble on one of the two emerging as a reliable option.
