Falcons owner Arthur Blank said it still bothers him that Atlanta's offensive linemen didn't go after Saints S Kenny Vaccaro when he laid a questionable hit on Matt Ryan in Week 1.
The Falcons have made it a priority to get tougher up front. They inked RG Jon Asamoah, a nasty run blocker with a mean streak, and re-signed C Joe Hawley, who gave the unit a backbone when he was inserted into the starting lineup. Atlanta could get even more ferocious by drafting Auburn OT Greg Robinson. Apr 8 - 11:59 AM

Falcons agreed to terms with RG Jon Asamoah, formerly of the Chiefs.

Asamoah signing with the Falcons was another badly kept secret from the legal tampering period. The nasty guard with a mean streak reunites with ex-Chiefs GM Scott Pioli, who drafted Asamoah in Kansas City. The Falcons interior of the offensive line shapes up like this: LG Justin Blalock, C Joe Hawley, and RG Asamoah. GM Thomas Dimitroff still needs to find an offensive tackle.

According to ESPN's Adam Caplan, it would be a "small upset" if the Falcons didn't land free agent OG Jon Asamoah.

Caplan reports Asamoah would start at right guard, bookending LG Justin Blalock. The Falcons need multiple O-Line reinforcements, but securing Asamoah would be a good start. He's an effective pass blocker and plays with a mean streak. New assistant GM Scott Pioli drafted Asamoah in Kansas City.

The National Football Post reports the Falcons have "an extremely high degree of interest" in free agent G Jon Asamoah.

Asamoah was drafted by new Falcons assistant GM Scott Pioli in Kansas City and would help upgrade one of the worst offensive lines in the league. The Jets are also expected to "make a play" for Asamoah, who turns 26 in July.

The NY Daily News reports the Jets will "make a play" for free agent G Jon Asamoah when the league's three-day negotiating window opens.

Asamoah would be an immediate upgrade to a Jets offensive line that was one of the worst run-blocking units in the league in 2013. Coming off a lackluster season, Asamoah could be one of the biggest steals of free agency, and signing him would be a solid move. Asamoah is our No. 5 free-agent guard.

ESPN Falcons reporter Vaughn McClure wonders if the team could show interest in free agent G Jon Asamoah.

Asamoah was drafted by Scott Pioli and the Chiefs with the 68th pick in 2010. Pioli is now the assistant GM in Atlanta. The Falcons badly need help in the trenches on both sides of the ball. Asamoah was billed as a nasty run blocker coming out of Illinois. He seemed to fall out of favor last season in Kansas City. Asamoah is our No. 5 free-agent guard and is widely viewed as a potential steal.

Chiefs declared RG Jon Asamoah (calf), ILB Nico Johnson (ankle), WR Chad Hall, S Brad McDougald, LB Josh Martin, DL Allen Bailey, and QB Tyler Bray inactive for Week 1 against the Jaguars.

Geoff Schwartz will start in place of Asamoah. Akeem Jordan will start at inside linebacker next to Derrick Johnson.

Chiefs RG Jon Asamoah triggered an escalator in his rookie deal, raising his 2013 salary from $575,000 to $1.323 million.

Asamoah, a 2010 third-round pick, has started 31 of a possible 32 games at right guard for Kansas City over the last two seasons. He's part of a strong offensive line group, which should make new coach Andy Reid smile. Asamoah projects as an above-average run-blocking guard over the long-term. He's entering the final year of his contract.

Chiefs RG Jon Asamoah (thumb surgery) is expected back for Week 12.

The Chiefs' offensive line is normally their strong suit, but even that unit struggled in Sunday's ugly loss to the Bengals. They played without Asamoah and C Ryan Lilja (knee), and then lost LT Brandon Albert to a back injury during the game. "I'm not making excuses about the offensive line, but when you have guys who don't practice together on a consistent basis, it's hard for everybody to be on the same page," coach Romeo Crennel said.

Chiefs RG Jon Asamoah will miss Week 11 versus the Bengals after undergoing thumb surgery.

Asamoah has been one of the few bright spot spots on Kansas City's offense this season, and is coming off an excellent game versus the Steelers. Journeyman fill-in Russ Hochstein is a clear downgrade as a run blocker.

Coach Todd Haley praised RG Jon Asamoah's progression as one of the big reasons for Kansas City's improved run blocking.

The 68th pick in the 2010 draft, Asamoah is a first-year starter, replacing longtime fan favorite Brian Waters at right guard. "He's been right at the heart of that," Haley said. "You're really seeing him start to come on and pick up where he ended last season." Pro Football Focus has graded Asamoah as a top-ten pass-blocking guard entering Week 6. He's also coming off his best run-blocking game of the season against the Colts.

The Chiefs are expected to open their starting left guard job to competition between Jon Asamoah and incumbent Brian Waters.

Waters is coming off a legit Pro Bowl season, but isn't the future at age 34 and entering the final year of his contract. Asamoah, the 68th overall pick in the 2010 draft, projects as a nasty run-blocking guard but only played 60 or more snaps in two games as a rookie. While we'd expect Waters to win this battle, it's going to be hard to keep Asamoah on the bench going forward.

Chiefs signed third-round OG Jon Asamoah to a four-year, $2.7 million contract, including $900,000 guaranteed.

The Outland Trophy candidate from Illinois was considered the second-best guard in the draft. He's expected to sit behind Brian Waters and Ryan Lilja as a rookie. It will be interesting to see if the Chiefs give Asamoah some snaps at center in the coming weeks, as that's where he could help the 2010 squad the most.

Chiefs selected Illinois OG Jon Asamoah with the No. 68 pick in the 2010 draft.

The second-best guard in the draft, Asamoah brings a nasty attitude to the run game. Polished enough to step right into a starting job, he could force the Chiefs to consider moving Brian Waters inside to center down the road. Asamoah is the third interior lineman added this offseason, following the signings of veterans Ryan Lilja and Casey Wiegmann.

Illinois OG Jon Asamoah proved he's nearly fully recovered from January shoulder surgery at his personal Pro Day on Thursday.

Asamoah, one of the top-five pure guards in the draft, suffered a hairline fracture of his shoulder blade during Senior Bowl practices. The nasty brawler ran a 5.04 forty and posted jumps of 27" (vertical) and 8'11" (broad). Asamoah did struggle on the bench, hoisting 225 pounds just 22 times. The low total can likely be blamed on Asamoah's recovering upper-body muscles.
