Jaguars DT Tyson Alualu will play defensive end in new coach Gus Bradley's hybrid 4-3 defense.
A three-technique interior pass rusher his first three seasons, Alualu managed just 9.5 sacks across 48 games. The left defensive end spot in Bradley's defense is also known as "five technique" and was manned by Red Bryant in Seattle. Generously listed at 6-foot-3, 304, Alualu is unlikely to give the Jaguars the same kind of run-stopping ability as Bryant, but that'll be his new role. May 15 - 1:46 PM

Jaguars DT Tyson Alualu suffered an abdominal injury in this week's minicamp.

Alualu participated on both Tuesday and Wednesday, but he was forced to sit out on Thursday. It's likely just a precautionary measure, and he should be fine for OTAs. Alualu recorded 45 tackles and 3.5 sacks last season.

Jaguars DT Tyson Alualu said last week's game versus the Colts was the best he's felt since he entered the league as the No. 10 overall pick in the 2010 draft.

GM Gene Smith said this week that Alualu showed significant quickness in producing his best game of the season. Since his rookie season, Alualu has played through a knee issue that eventually required microfracture surgery. By the time he emerges as a consistent asset, Alualu's GM may be out of a job.

Jaguars DT Tyson Alualu finally returned to the starting lineup in Thursday's preseason loss to the Ravens.

The Jags had been bringing Alualu back slowly after offseason microfracture surgery. On Thursday, he assumed the starting job next to C.J. Mosley and sent D'Anthony Smith to the second team. Alualu, the surprising No. 10 overall pick in 2010, had two tackles in two series played.

The Jaguars expect DT Tyson Alualu to make a ''major step forward'' in his third NFL season.

''We wouldn't have gone from 28th to fifth (ranked defense) if Tyson didn’t play like he did," DL coach Joe Cullen said. ''He really has a chance to come into his own this year. If he’s on a healthy knee he can be as explosive as he's shown in some of the games he's dominated. More splash plays, the sacks." Alualu has dealt with a knee cartilage problem since entering the league, but the Jaguars hope that surgery will correct it.

Jaguars DT Tyson Alualu shed his crutches nearly two weeks ago as he recovers from a "minor" microfracture knee operation.

"I’m just excited and looking forward to a great season with two healthy knees," he said. Alualu is walking without a limp, but plans to "take things slow" ahead of Week 1. He finished last season with 40 tackles and 2.5 sacks.

Jaguars DT Tyson Alualu revealed that his surgery early last month was of the "minor" microfracture variety.

Alualu had hoped to correct the two-year long cartilage issue with rest and rehab, but Jaguars medical personnel advised the microfracture procedure as the best option. Alualu has yet to miss a game while playing through the pain. Expect him to be in the lineup Week 1, perhaps with a more consistent pass-rushing presence.

Jaguars coach Mike Mularkey confirmed at the Combine that DT Tyson Alualu is recovering from postseason surgery on his right knee.

The date and specifics of the operation are unknown, but Alualu has played through a cartilage problem in the knee since entering the league in 2010. The Jaguars hope that surgery will correct it. After a promising rookie year, Alualu was arguably the team's least effective defensive lineman in 2011. For Alualu's part, he has yet to miss a start through two NFL seasons.

Jaguars DT Tyson Alualu may need offseason knee surgery if his program of rehabilitation and strengthening doesn't fix the problem.

Alualu has been playing through a balky knee since entering the league in 2010. The cartilage problem in the knee was a major factor in Alualu grading out 86th out of 88 defensive tackles in Pro Football Focus' ratings.

Tyson Alualu (knee) has been playing at less than 100 percent for the majority of his two-year career, according to the Times Union.

Alualu has started 32 straight games despite a cartilage problem in his knee. It's not a serious injury, but it's one that nags. He admitted offseason surgery is possible. "I'm looking forward to doing whatever it takes to get my knee right," Alualu said. "Whatever it is the doctors say I need to do, I'm all for it." The No. 10 overall pick in the 2010 draft hasn't come close to being a difference-maker.

The Jaguars plan to hold second-year DT Tyson Alualu out of most Wednesday practices this season.

"Wednesday is a deal they put me on ... they say it’s a long season, they just want me to be there at the end of the season," Alualu said. Alualu played with knee pain for most of his rookie season, but still managed to play in all 16 games and finish the year with 38 tackles and four sacks. Through his first three games this season, he has nine tackles and zero sacks.

Jaguars DT Tyson Alualu played with a bad knee since mid-October and will get it checked out this week.

Alualu, the surprise No. 10 overall pick that many called a reach, finished with four sacks and 38 tackles while playing all 16 games. The Jags were still tied for 30th in sacks as a team and ranked 22nd against the run.

Jaguars DT Tyson Alualu, DE Jeremy Mincey, FB Greg Jones, and LB Daryl Smith are all active after being listed as probable for Week 10.

FB Brock Bolen, WR John Matthews, T Adam Terry, T Guy Whimper, DE Aaron Moran, DT Nate Collins, CB Terrence Wheatley, and CB Chevis Jackson were all declared inactive. There are no additional lineup changes in Jacksonville after Aaron Kampman was lost for the season earlier this week.

Jags DT Tyson Alualu (knee) is expected to play Sunday against Houston.

DE Jeremy Mincey (hand) is also expected to be active for the team's defensive line. DT Nate Collins was signed off the Giants' practice squad to solidify depth across a banged up unit.

In addition to DE Aaron Kampman, Jags DT Tyson Alualu also suffered a knee injury in practice this week.

According to the Florida Times-Union, Kampman's "might be a serious knee injury." The Jags are holding their breath, awaiting his MRI results. Alualu missed practice Thursday while sporting a new brace on his lower left leg. The Texans' offense is looking at a matchup upgrade this week.
