The Dolphins hope MLB Koa Misi (ankle) can return "in a week or two."
Misi won't be active for Week 2, but it sounds like the Dolphins are hopeful he can return before the end of the month. That would be pushing it if Misi had a high-ankle sprain. Sep 9 - 3:07 PM

Dolphins MLB Koa Misi is "out indefinitely" with an ankle injury.

We suspect he has a high ankle sprain. Miami is suddenly without all three of its starting linebackers, as SLB Dannell Ellerbe went on I.R. following hip surgery on Monday, while WLB Phillip Wheeler is on the shelf after thumb surgery. With Buffalo on deck, this is good news for Fred Jackson and C.J. Spiller.
Sep 8 - 3:56 PM

Dolphins LB Koa Misi was forced from Miami's Week 1 game against the Patriots with an ankle injury, and will not return.

Misi went down in the first quarter, and was soon spotted in a walking boot. It's likely a high-ankle sprain, which is usually a 4-6 week injury.
Sep 7 - 2:32 PM

Dolphins LB Koa Misi (shoulder) will not play the team's third preseason game Saturday.

It is unclear when Misi was injured. He practiced all week, so either the injury is minor, or he picked it up after the practice week was over. Jason Trusnik will start in his place. Misi's status should be updated after the game.
Aug 23 - 6:56 PM

Dolphins DC Kevin Coyle told reporters Monday that he is pleased with Koa Misi's transition to middle linebacker.

Misi is staying on the field in sub-packages during OTAs, and has a chance to become Miami's every-down Mike 'backer, giving him serious IDP appeal. "I can't commit today that it's a done deal but I like what we're seeing," said Coyle. Dannell Ellerbe was terrible at this position in Coyle's scheme last year, but still racked up 101 tackles, two interceptions, and five pass breakups.
Jun 2 - 2:17 PM

Koa Misi took the first reps as the Dolphins' starting middle linebacker at Tuesday's OTAs.

There was a report earlier this month from the Palm Beach Post that said Misi thought the switch to MIKE would be "too much" for him to handle mentally. It proved to be false. The Dolphins want Misi, a strong run defender, to man the inside, with high-priced vets Dannell Ellerbe and Philip Wheeler on the outside.
May 27 - 10:15 AM

A Dolphins source "emphatically" told the Miami Herald that Dolphins SLB Koa Misi did not refuse a position change to middle linebacker.

The original report came from the Palm Beach Post, which -- with all due respect -- seems to be getting an awful lot of bad information lately. The PBP's story essentially claimed Misi told the Dolphins he couldn't handle the mental responsibilities associated with playing middle linebacker. For now, Misi is getting tried inside, with Dannell Ellerbe at weak-side linebacker and Philip Wheeler on the strong side. Reinforcements may be added in the draft.
May 2 - 3:26 PM

A source tells the Palm Beach Post that Dolphins SLB Koa Misi thinks moving to middle linebacker would be "too much" for him to handle.

The Dolphins want to move Misi to the middle, MLB Dannell Ellerbe to the weak side, and WLB Philip Wheeler to the strong side. Misi was easily the best player of the trio last season and is nails against the run. Misi told the coaching staff he was "concerned about the added responsibilities and mental aspect of playing inside." Not really a good look. Ellerbe remains penciled in at MIKE, though the linebacker corps could get shaken up in the draft.
May 2 - 12:05 PM

The Miami Herald reports the Dolphins are toying with the idea of moving SLB Koa Misi to middle linebacker.

The Dolphins seem intent on getting MLB Dannell Ellerbe to one of the outside spots. Misi is an excellent run defender and can cover a little bit. At 6-foot-3 and 251 pounds, he definitely has the size to make the move. Despite earning less cash than Ellerbe and WLB Philip Wheeler, Misi is easily Miami's best 'backer.
Mar 16 - 11:14 AM

Dolphins declared SLB Koa Misi, CB Dimitri Patterson, QB Pat Devlin, RB Mike Gillislee, G/C David Arkin, G/T Dallas Thomas, and RT Jonathan Martin inactive for Monday night's Week 10 game against the Bucs.

Misi is out with a knee injury. Jason Trusnik will start in his place. Patterson is still battling a groin issue, so Nolan Carroll will continue to start. Martin remains AWOL. Tyson Clabo and Bryant McKinnie are the starting tackles.

Dolphins signed SLB Koa Misi to a four-year contract extension through 2017.

Misi, 26, was entering the final year of his rookie deal. The 40th overall pick in the 2010 draft graded out as a top-ten 4-3 outside linebacker in Pro Football Focus' rankings last season. Misi started 14 games and registered 65 tackles and 3.5 sacks. He's a two-down player who struggles in coverage.

Dolphins SLB Koa Misi was sentenced to three years' probation and 400 hours of community service for his role in an April 2011 fight.

Misi's felony battery charge was reduced to a misdemeanor. It means the run stopper won't be facing league discipline during the final year of his rookie contract. The Palm Beach Post considers Misi an extension candidate, but we'd only expect the Dolphins to act if the terms are exceedingly team friendly.

The Palm Beach Post mentions Dolphins SLB Koa Misi as a candidate for an offseason contract extension.

Misi is entering the final year of his rookie deal and has proven to be a solid run defender. However, he brings little to the table in coverage and is typically removed on third downs. Misi started 14 games in 2012, registering 65 tackles.

Dolphins SLB Koa Misi pleaded no contest to felony battery and paid a $42,000 fine to a man he punched in the face in Santa Barbara (CA) two Aprils ago.

The victim allegedly made "nasty comments" to Misi and a group of friends from an apartment balcony. Misi, then 24, broke down the door and slugged a 19-year-old man in the kisser. Misi also paid the man for medical expenses and agreed to 400 hours of community service. The incident occurred during the 2011 NFL lockout, so we're guessing Misi won't be facing any league discipline.

The Palm Beach Post still expects the Dolphins to switch to a 4-3 scheme as the primary defense this season.

The coaching staff and local media have hinted that new coordinator Kevin Coyle will flex between the 4-3 and the 3-4. Newly signed Gary Guyton is expected to battle holdover Koa Misi for the starting weak-side linebacker job this summer.
