940 Miami's Andy Slater reports Dolphins LB Koa Misi (neck, I.R.) is retiring from the NFL after seven seasons.
Miami placed Misi on season-ending I.R. earlier Tuesday. He was trying to work his way back from spinal fusion surgery that limited him to three games last season. The 30-year-old was the 40th overall pick in 2010 and started 72 games for the Dolphins, recording 12 career sacks and a pair of forced fumbles. He could play both strong side and the MIKE spots and was above-average against the run. Jul 25 - 11:13 PM

Dolphins placed LB Koa Misi on injured reserve with a neck injury, ending his season.

Just Tuesday, coach Adam Gase said he was "confident" Misi would "play football again," but it won't be for the Dolphins in 2017. If Misi does get healthy, he would have to be released with an injury settlement. Now 30, Misi played just three games last season before undergoing surgery. Things aren't looking bright for his NFL future. The Dolphins' top three linebackers are Kiko Alonso, Lawrence Timmons and second-rounder Raekwon McMillan.

Dolphins coach Adam Gase is "confident" LB Koa Misi will "play football again."

Misi has yet to be cleared to practice, and doesn't seem to have a return timeline. ESPN's James Walker theorized earlier this month that Misi is on the roster bubble. The Dolphins are protected at linebacker with Kiko Alonso, Lawrence Timmons and second-rounder Raekwon McMillan.

ESPN's James Walker believes Dolphins LB Koa Misi (neck) is on the roster bubble.

Recovering from spinal fusion surgery, Misi was not able to participate in the offseason program and is at best questionable for training camp. Miami would likely be happy to keep him on the roster if he is healthy, but it is far from a given he will be able to get back on the field. Kiko Alonso, Lawrence Timmons, and second-rounder Raekwon McMillan look like the probable starters at linebacker.

The Miami Herald reports the Dolphins don't know when SLB Koa Misi (neck) will be cleared.

Misi sat out OTAs recovering from spinal fusion surgery. He's not fully over his neck issues and won't be reevaluated until training camp. The Dolphins are optimistic on Misi's status, but he isn't a lock to play this season.

Jun 17 - 5:20 PM

Dolphins SLB Koa Misi (neck surgery) remains sidelined.

Speaking Thursday, coach Adam Gase said it would be "still some time." Misi is questionable for the beginning of training camp, but his roster spot appears safe after he agreed to a restructured contract. He should be a starter if healthy.
May 25 - 1:15 PM

Dolphins SLB Koa Misi has agreed to restructure his contract.

He's likely taking a pay cut considering this is the final year of his contract and money can't be pushed into future years. Misi missed the final three-plus months of last season due to neck surgery. For now, Misi is plugged in as the starting SAM, but Miami has flirted with free agent Zach Brown.
Mar 22 - 11:47 AM

The Miami Herald's Barry Jackson reports "those close to" LB Koa Misi (neck) believe the Dolphins would like to keep him if he is medically cleared.

Misi is expected to be cleared from neck surgery around the beginning of May. Even if that happens, the Dolphins likely would want him to take a pay cut to stick around. Misi is scheduled to make $4.2 million in the final year of his deal.
Mar 14 - 12:10 PM

Dolphins SLB Koa Misi (neck) is expected to be medically cleared around May 1.

Misi missed all but three games last season before requiring neck surgery. At one point, his career was in doubt, but he's made an almost-full recovery. Misi carries a $4.2 million cap number for 2017 and could be released before gaining clearance. The Dolphins want to overhaul their linebacker group.
Mar 1 - 1:12 PM

Dolphins SLB Koa Misi is viewed as a candidate for release this offseason.

Misi is entering the final year of his contract, and the Dolphins can save $4.2 million against the cap by cutting him. It seems like a no-brainer mover for Mike Tannenbaum and Co. after Misi missed all but three games due to a serious neck injury that was initially viewed as career-threatening. Misi is now expected to resume his career, but Miami is expected to re-do its linebacker group.

According to the Miami Herald's Armando Salguero, Misi's injury may be career-threatening. He had been sidelined since Week 3. Dolphins SLB Koa Misi (neck) and WLB Jelani Jenkins (groin) are inactive for Week 4 vs. the Bengals.

The Dolphins' already thin run defense figures to offer even less resistance to Jeremy Hill and Giovani Bernard. Spencer Paysinger is filling in for Misi, Donald Butler for Jenkins.

Dolphins LB Koa Misi was "detained" following a weekend nightclub brawl in Fort Lauderdale, but not arrested.

Misi allegedly struck someone in the head before struggling to be subdued by police. He was released without being arrested after the alleged victim declined to press charges. It's a silly, regrettable incident, but it doesn't sound like much in the way of legal problems is going to come from it.

Dolphins VP of football operations Mike Tannenbaum said Koa Misi could be moved to middle linebacker.

Misi is currently penciled on the strong side. He would move inside if Miami adds an outside linebacker. Misi played the MIKE role in 2014, but isn’t more than a short-term option.
