Redskins placed LG Shawn Lauvao (ankle/foot) on the active/PUP.

Lauvao was expected to be ready for training camp. It is possible he will only miss a few days, but any missed time hurts his bid to win the left guard job. Lauvao underwent five surgeries after landing on injured reserve last September.

Jul 28 - 8:22 AM believes Shawn Lauvao could be released if he doesn't win left guard duties.

The injury-prone veteran is competing with Spencer Long. Lauvao underwent five surgeries after landing on injured reserve with a foot issue last year, and struggled mightily before going down. Lauvao will probably be eased into camp, giving Long a leg up.
Jul 4 - 2:20 PM

The Washington Post reports Redskins LG Shawn Lauvao (foot, ankle) is expected to be ready for training camp.

Lauvao underwent five foot surgeries after landing on injured reserve last season, but he said last month he will be ready for camp. If he can get healthy, Lauvao will compete with Spencer Long for the starting spot at left guard. Long has also seen some snaps at center this offseason.
Jun 7 - 9:57 AM

Redskins LG Shawn Lauvao (ankle) said he will be ready for training camp.

This is an extremely optimistic outlook from Lauvao, who required five surgeries on his legs after landing on injured reserve with a serious ankle injury last season. CSN Mid-Atlantic's Rich Tandler speculated earlier this month Lauvao could open the season on the reserve/PUP list. Lauvao will compete for the left guard job if he is healthy, but that is a big if at this point.
May 26 - 10:58 AM

CSN Washington's Rich Tandler believes Redskins LG Shawn Lauvao could open the season on reserve/PUP.

Lauvao has dealt with numerous foot issues since the start of the 2015 season. He's reportedly undergone at least five surgeries since October. Due a $4 million salary, Lauvao's roster spot is certainly in jeopardy.
May 9 - 9:02 AM

Redskins LG Shawn Lauvao has undergone five foot surgeries over the past three months.

Lauvao landed on injured reserve after Week 3 with a serious ankle injury, but he took advantage of the downtime to fix some lingering foot issues. He expects to start walking in the next week and should be ready for OTAs. He will be 100 percent recovered by the time training camp rolls around.
Jan 12 - 10:56 AM

Redskins placed LG Shawn Lauvao on injured reserve, ending his season.

He suffered a serious ankle injury in last week's loss to the Giants. Josh LeRibeus should get first crack at replacing Lauvao at left guard. Tom Compton could see time there as well.
Tue, Sep 29, 2015 05:02:00 PM

Coach Jay Gruden said LG Shawn Lauvao (ankle) will likely miss extended time.

Lauvao missed the second half of Thursday night's loss with a lateral sprain. It's a concern for Washington's line, as Lauvao is their best interior run blocker. Josh LeRibeus will be forced to start for however long Lauvao is sidelined.
Fri, Sep 25, 2015 07:45:00 PM

Redskins LG Shawn Lauvao left Thursday's game against the Giants with a left ankle injury, and will not return.

Lauvao went down midway through the first half, and was formally ruled out in the third quarter. He had to be carted to the locker room. Josh LeRibeus, a major downgrade, is now in the game at left guard. It's bad news for the Redskins' running game.

Redskins LG Shawn Lauvao sustained a concussion in Sunday's Week 11 loss to the Bucs.

Lauvao is in a race to get cleared ahead of Sunday's game at San Francisco. His backup is Josh LeRibeus. It's a major concern for the Redskins as stud LT Trent Williams (knee, ankle) is almost certainly out.
Tue, Nov 18, 2014 10:11:00 AM

Redskins LG Shawn Lauvao (knee) is doubtful for Thursday's game against the Giants.

Lauvao has been dealing with right-knee issues for each of the past two weeks. Josh LeRibeus will fill in against the Giants if Lauvao can't go.
Tue, Sep 23, 2014 08:02:00 PM

The Redskins plan to use Shawn Lauvao at left guard.

For now, at least, undersized Chris Chester is staying at right guard, with Kory Lichtensteiger penciled in lightly at center. Lauvao was a right guard in Cleveland, but struggled there and the Skins apparently believe he'll be better off playing next to LT Trent Williams. Lauvao's contract was among free agency's biggest head scratchers, receiving $17 million over four years.

Redskins signed G Shawn Lauvao for four years, $17 million.

Lauvao missed the beginning of last season with an ankle injury, but was an every down player for the Browns beginning Week 5. He struggled as a run blocker in 2013, but has been a solid blocker in his career and should add beef to a smallish Washington offensive line.

ESPN Cleveland does not expect free agent G Shawn Lauvao back with the Browns.

Lauvao missed the beginning of last season due to an ankle injury. He was an every-down player from Week 5 on, but struggled badly as a run blocker and gave up 18 quarterback hurries along with four sacks. New offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan prefers smaller, more agile linemen to execute his zone-blocking scheme. Lauvao is our No. 10 free agent guard available.
