Eagles waived CB Kevin Thomas and OL Thomas Welch.
Thomas, a third-round pick in 2010 out of USC, was acquired via trade with the Colts early in training camp. He obviously didn't work out, failing to beat out Curtis Marsh and Brandon Boykin. Welch has bounced around the league. Sat, Aug 25, 2012 07:07:00 PM

Eagles acquired CB Kevin Thomas and a 2013 seventh-round pick from the Colts in exchange for LBs Moise Fokou and Greg Lloyd.

Thomas was a 2010 third-round pick despite an injury-marred career at USC. He played 39 percent of the defensive snaps last season after losing his rookie year to an ACL tear. Although the Eagles have a surfeit of candidates for the slot, they had a need for a backup of Thomas' size on the outside. He had been overtaken by Justin King early in Colts camp.

Kevin Thomas and Jerraud Powers have been the Colts' starting corners during spring workouts.

Jacob Lacey's departure has thinned out the Colts' secondary. Thomas, a 2010 third-rounder out of USC, appeared in just nine games last season due to knee issues. The Colts are aware the unit looks weak on paper and have been linked to disgruntled Cowboys corner Mike Jenkins.

Colts CB Kevin Thomas has a chance to start opposite Jerraud Powers this season.

A third-round pick in 2010, Thomas has the size to fit what new coach Chuck Pagano wants to do defensively, but lost his rookie campaign to knee surgery and appeared in just nine games last season. Second-year CB Chris Rucker also projects for an expanded role following the departure of Jacob Lacey.

Colts backup CB Kevin Thomas will start for LCB Jacob Lacey in Sunday night's game against the Saints.

The Colts have been exposed by big No. 1 wideouts over the past two weeks. Standing 6'1/185 compared to Lacey's 5'10/177, Thomas could be a desperation move to deal with Marques Colston's size at 6'4/225. This is the first NFL action of Thomas' two-year career, after his rookie campaign was cut short by knee surgery.

Colts placed CB Kevin Thomas (knee) on injured reserve, ending his season.

The Colts knew Thomas was brittle coming out of USC, and the third-rounder went down with a knee injury at rookie minicamp. It was deemed a "season-threatening" injury after surgery in late May, but the Colts never released the specifics.

Colts signed third-round CB Kevin Thomas to a four-year, $2.46 million contract.

Thomas' injury history scared off many teams, and he started his Colts career with a season-threatening knee injury in early May. He had surgery weeks later, and the Colts don't appear to be counting on his contributions as a rookie.

Colts coach Jim Caldwell confirmed Friday that third-round pick Kevin Thomas recently had surgery on his knee.

Thomas suffered a season-threatening injury during rookie minicamps. The incident took place nearly a month ago, so we're led to believe that the injury involved a torn ACL with MCL damage. Don't expect Thomas to play in 2010.

Colts coach Jim Caldwell revealed that third-round pick Kevin Thomas has yet to undergo surgery to repair the season-threatening knee injury he suffered during rookie minicamps.

The extent of the injury is unclear, but the Colts don't appear to be counting on Thomas to play this season. They've talked up seventh-round pick Ray Fisher as a possible dime back. Terrail Lambert may be another option.

Colts third-round pick Kevin Thomas suffered a season-threatening knee injury at last week's minicamp.

Thomas was an injury waiting to happen at USC, so it's not surprising that he's already on the shelf. The No. 94 overall pick in April's draft was removed from several teams' draft boards for injury reasons. Thomas wasn't going to play a major first-year role anyway behind Kelvin Hayden and Jerraud Powers.

Colts selected USC CB Kevin Thomas with the No. 94 pick in the 2010 draft.

A starter for just one year at USC -- due to injuries that forced many teams to cross him off their draft boards -- Thomas' size and top-end speed lend him plenty of upside. He struggled at times to identify routes and locate the ball, so he'll need to be coached up. The Colts grabbed a starting corner in the third round with Jerraud Powers last year, so they're hoping lightning strikes twice.
