Redskins signed ILB Darryl Sharpton, formerly of the Texans, to a one-year contract.
According to Profootballtalk, the deal is worth "up to" $2 million. Sharpton made 13 starts in Brian Cushing's absence the past two seasons, but wasn't effective at anything other than plugging the run. He's a replacement-level 'backer, and nothing more than a depth signing for a Redskins team trying to find bargains. Mar 13 - 2:37 PM

Darryl Sharpton will take Brian Cushing's spot at inside linebacker.

Cushing is done for the season after breaking his fibula and tearing his LCL in Week 7. Sharpton, a capable starter when healthy (as he rarely is) slides in next to Joe Mays.

Texans ILB Darryl Sharpton (concussion) has been cleared for Sunday's Week 2 game against the Titans.

Sharpton missed the final two preseason games and the season opener with a concussion. He started five games down the stretch last year and will be used in a part-time role with Joe Mays now that he's cleared to return.

Texans ILB Darryl Sharpton (concussion) did not participate in Saturday's practice and has been ruled out for Week 1.

Sharpton suffered a concussion in the third preseason game and still hasn't been cleared to practice. Joe Mays and Tim Dobbins will get an extended look opposite Brian Cushing on Monday night against the Chargers.

Texans ILB Darryl Sharpton has been diagnosed with a concussion.

Sharpton suffered the injury two weeks ago, but the Texans are just now disclosing it. Sharpton still has time to get cleared for Monday night's opener, but his injury track record is poor. Sharpton has missed 21 of a possible 48 games since being the No. 102 pick of the 2010 draft. Tim Dobbins and Joe Mays should pick up the slack if Sharpton can't go against San Diego.

Texans activated ILB Darryl Sharpton (hip, groin) from the active/PUP list.

He was back on the practice field Sunday, where Sharpton will compete with Joe Mays to start alongside Brian Cushing. Sharpton has been incredibly injury prone since the Texans made him the 102nd overall pick in the 2010 draft. The 25-year-old has missed 21-of-48 possible games through three seasons.

Texans ILB Darryl Sharpton (hip/groin) has sustained a setback.

The Texans' medical staff can't seem to get a handle on this injury, which has plagued Sharpton since last season. He received an injection on Sunday and was said to be feeling better. "It's a disappointment for Darryl and for us, but we've got to give him every chance to get back on the field," coach Gary Kubiak said. "He had a great offseason." Sharpton has appeared in just 27 of a possible 48 games during his three-year NFL career.

Texans ILB Darryl Sharpton (hip) participated in OTAs on Monday in a limited fashion.

"Sharpton’s good," coach Gary Kubiak said. "We’re kind of going to be a little protective with him, keep him out of some special teams drills and stuff, but he’s back to work." Sharpton will contend with Tim Dobbins and possibly Brooks Reed for the starting inside 'backer job next to Brian Cushing.

Texans DC Wade Phillips says ILB Darryl Sharpton is still not recovered from his late-season hip injury.

"Darryl's not healthy enough right now to do our offseason stuff," Phillips said. "He's still not been cleared by the doctors." This contradicts earlier comments from Sharpton himself, who claimed in February he was 100 percent healed. We'll find out for sure when the Texans begin OTAs on Monday.

Texans ILB Darryl Sharpton is still recovering from his hip injury.

Sharpton landed on injured reserve after Week 17 last season, but he declared himself "100 percent healed up" in February. The Texans are still taking it easy on him, but he should be ready to go when OTAs start on May 20. Sharpton and Tim Dobbins will compete for the starting job next to Brian Cushing.

Texans ILB Darryl Sharpton (hip) says he's "100 percent healed up."

Sharpton spent the first nine games of 2012 on PUP before landing on injured reserve for the playoffs. Limited to 15 games by injury the past two seasons, Sharpton will have to earn a starting job in camp. Inside 'backer is a major need for the Texans.

Texans placed ILB Darryl Sharpton (hip) on injured reserve, ending his season.

Sharpton missed the first nine games of the year while on PUP due to a hip issue. The run-stuffing inside 'backer never truly got over the hump and finished with just 28 tackles in seven games. Look for Tim Dobbins to start next to Bradie James in Saturday's Wild Card game against the Bengals. Brian Cushing has been on IR since tearing his ACL in Week 5.

Texans ILB Darryl Sharpton will start Thursday's game against the Lions.

Activated off the PUP list on Saturday, Sharpton will start in place of Tim Dobbins, who is a game-time decision with a shoulder injury. Sharpton played 33-of-68 snaps in Sunday's win over the Jaguars, notching seven tackles. The 2010 fourth-round pick was limited to just eight games and 55 snaps in 2011 by a torn quad. He could rotate with Dobbins for the rest of the season.

Texans activated LB Darryl Sharpton off the PUP list.

Sharpton gives quality depth at linebacker where the Texans have been thin since losing Brian Cushing for the season. He's expected to see some snaps at inside linebacker, rotating with starters Bradie James and Tim Dobbins, and should also contribute on special teams.
