Titans CB Alterraun Verner's 2013 salary jumped from $575,000 to $1.323 million based on rookie-deal incentives.
Verner, a 2010 fourth-round pick out of UCLA, started all 16 games at right corner in 2012, recording 81 tackles, nine passes defensed, and two interceptions. Alterraun Verner is working in the old Cortland Finnegan role during Titans Organized Team Activities.

Verner is the RCB in Tennessee's base defense, and covers the slot in nickel. As Finnegan showed, it's a productive spot from an IDP standpoint. "I like being inside, being with the linebackers, getting to blitz and guard some of the slot guys because that is where the ball goes most the time with the Wes Welkers and great tight ends," Verner explained. "They like to work those areas."

Titans LCB Alterraun Verner could keep his starting job even after Jason McCourty returns from injury.

Verner replaced McCourty in Week 3 and has 26 tackles, an interception and a fumble recovery in three games since then. "We'll face that when J-Mac is ready to come back,'' coach Jeff Fisher said. "The race was very, very close to start with (between McCourty and Verner)." McCourty could return by the end of the month.

Titans CB Alterraun Verner appears to be neck-and-neck in a battle with Jason McCourty for a starting job opposite Cortland Finnegan.

McCourty looked to have the leg up, but Verner closed the gap by outplaying his counterpart in the last preseason game. The fourth-round pick has dazzled in camp with his ball skills and could be an interesting IDP sleeper if he comes away with the starting gig.

Rookie CB Alterraun Verner has reportedly been "the talk of camp" for the Titans.

Verner hasn't unseated Jason McCourty for a starting job, but has flashed outstanding ball skills "with his interceptions and pass breakups." Verner was a ballhawk at UCLA. He could pass Ryan Mouton to be the No. 3 corner.

Coach Jeff Fisher says rookie Alterraun Verner is "definitely in the mix" to be the Titans' starting corner opposite Cortland Finnegan.

"Oh, he's legitimately in the running," Fisher said of the fourth-round pick. Ryan Mouton and Jason McCourty -- who ran with the ones on Sunday -- have yet to put a stranglehold on the job. Verner is just as talented as both.

Titans agreed to terms with fourth-round CB Alterraun Verner on a four-year contract.

Verner just recently began practicing at offseason workouts because UCLA is on a quarter system, so he's low on the depth chart. Still a quality prospect, the 21-year-old figures to push Ryan Mouton and Jason McCourty for playing time once Verner picks up the defensive schemes in training camp.

Titans selected UCLA CB Alterraun Verner with the No. 104 overall pick in the 2010 draft.

Using the pick from the LenDale White trade, the Titans add to their secondary by picking up an aggressive corner with good ball skills. Though productive at UCLA for four seasons, Verner lacks top-end speed for an NFL corner. He'll likely start out as a special teamer before entering the mix with Ryan Mouton and Jason McCourty opposite Corland Finnegan.
