The Miami Herald reports the Dolphins will give Alterraun Verner "every opportunity" to beat out slot-corner Bobby McCain.
The Herald goes on to mention that Verner's roster spot "isn't assured," and he is a "rare player" who could potentially start or not even make the team. This highlights the upside of the former second-team All-Pro accurately. Verner's play in training camp will be crucial to his 2017 impact. Jul 27 - 10:36 AM

Dolphins signed CB Alterraun Verner, formerly of the Bucs.

Signed to big money by the Bucs in 2014, Verner struggled his way into a smaller and smaller role, eventually playing just 241 snaps last season. Still only 28, he'll likely push Bobby McCain for slot-defender snaps. That is, if Verner makes the team. There's a reason Verner languished on the open market for over five months.
Jul 25 - 3:50 PM

The Dolphins worked out free agent CBs Alterraun Verner and Tony Carter on Tuesday.

Since peaking in 2013 as a second-team All-Pro, Verner has failed to live up to expectations. Still only 28, the Dolphins could be a good fit for Verner as a backup.
Jul 25 - 10:41 AM

ESPN's Josina Anderson reports free agent CB Alterraun Verner has a workout scheduled for next week.

Anderson did not say which team he'll be working out for. Verner visited the Jaguars in May but nothing came of it. Last year Verner logged 241 snaps for the Bucs while backing up starters Brent Grimes and Vernon Hargreaves. Still just 28, Verner has never come to close to matching the heights he reached as a second-team All-Pro selection in 2013.
Jul 23 - 12:30 PM

Free agent CB Alterraun Verner expects to sign with a team before training camp.

Verner has worked out for multiple teams, but Jacksonville is his only known visit. He never lived up to his Bucs contract, but should resurface in a backup role. Verner will likely have to settle for a non-guaranteed deal.
Jun 21 - 7:09 PM

Free agent CB Alterraun Verner worked out for the Jaguars last week.

The Jags' secondary is well-stocked with Jalen Ramsey, A.J. Bouye and Aaron Colvin, but that didn't stop them from kicking the tires on Verner. A 2013 All-Pro selection, Verner never panned out during his three-year tenure in Tampa Bay. He logged just 242 snaps last season. Still just 28, Verner should find work before training camp opens.
May 21 - 12:27 PM

ESPN's Paul Kuharsky doesn't believe free agent Alterraun Verner is "in play" for the Titans.

Verner played his first four seasons in Tennessee, earning an All-Pro selection during his breakout 2013 campaign. The 28-year-old looked washed up in Tampa Bay and will probably have to settle for a backup gig. The Titans need secondary help after allowing the NFL's third-most passing yards last season.
Feb 24 - 1:51 PM

Free agent CB Alterraun Verner says he's already drawn interest from "multiple teams."

Verner was released by the Bucs on Thursday afternoon. Verner has drawn universal plaudits for his attitude and professionalism, but mostly struggled on the field in Tampa. He's not a starting-quality corner at this stage of his NFL career. He'll hunt for a sliver of guaranteed money in free agency.
Feb 23 - 8:13 PM

Bucs released CB Alterraun Verner.

The no-brainer move creates $6.5 million in cap space, and leaves behind no dead money. Signed to a four-year, $25.5 million contract in March 2014, Verner was a comprehensive bust in Tampa, losing his starting job in 2015. Despite good health, he made just nine combined starts over the past two years, playing 838 replacement-level snaps. The ex-Titan turned 28 in January. He'll search for fourth corner work.
Feb 23 - 4:00 PM

Buccaneers CB Alterraun Verner left Sunday's Week 11 game against the Chiefs with a left ankle injury.

Verner recorded three tackles before exiting in the fourth quarter. He entered the game early on after a quad injury knocked out Brent Grimes. Josh Robinson has come on to take Verner's place.

Bucs CB Alterraun Verner lined up alongside Brent Grimes with the first-team defense at OTAs.

Verner struggled early last season before losing his starting job to Tim Jennings. He was able to retake the job by the end of the year, but his future looked murky entering the offseason program. New DC Mike Smith is showing faith in the former big-money signing. If Verner can regain his 2014 form, the Bucs might have a respectable corner trio with Vernon Hargreaves in the fold.

The Bucs have benched LCB Alterraun Verner and will start Tim Jennings in his place Week 3 against the Texans.

Verner, signed to a four-year, $25.5 million deal before 2014, has graded out as Pro Football Focus' No. 93 cover corner out of 97 qualifiers. He had his snaps scaled back significantly in Week 2 and now gets sat in favor of similarly pint-sized Jennings, who was picked up by the Bucs just a couple weeks back after he was released by the Bears. DeAndre Hopkins has a low-key great matchup.

Bucs LCB Alterraun Verner (hamstring) is active for Week 12 against the Bears.

Verner has not been stellar this year, but he will be a much-needed upgrade for the Bucs' secondary in a matchup against Brandon Marshall and Alshon Jeffery. Even with Verner back, Marshall and Jeffery should dominate Week 12.
Sun, Nov 23, 2014 11:47:00 AM

Bucs LCB Alterraun Verner (questionable, hamstring) is "optimistic" about returning for Sunday's game against the Bears.

Verner was listed as DNP on both Thursday and Friday, but was able to get in some limited work. He has a chance to return this week and will be a game-time decision. With a matchup against Brandon Marshall and Alshon Jeffery, Verner would provide a needed upgrade to the Bucs' secondary.
Sat, Nov 22, 2014 04:34:00 PM

Bucs LCB Alterraun Verner (hamstring) is listed as questionable for Week 12.

Verner is expected to miss his third straight game. The Bucs will go with Brandon Dixon and Crezdon Butler opposite Johnthan Banks.
