Former NFL personnel director Louis Riddick calls new Giants CB Walter Thurmond III "special."
The Giants were able to steal Thurmond on a one-year, $3 million contract thanks to off-field and injury concerns. "He's a dynamite press corner, who is as good with his technique as Byron Maxwell, as Richard Sherman," Riddick said. Thanks to the Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie signing, Thurmond will likely open the season as a third corner in what is now a very deep unit. He shouldn't have a problem earning a much bigger payday a year from now. Mar 20 - 10:23 AM

Giants signed CB Walter Thurmond III, formerly of the Seahawks, to a one-year, $3.5 million contract.

The Giants are arguably having the best free agency period in the NFL, not that it necessarily means a whole lot. Thurmond, 26, has good size at 5-foot-11 and 190 pounds and can play the slot and outside. We'd tentatively expect him to start opposite Prince Amukamara with Trumaine McBride at nickel back, and disappointing 2012 third-rounder Jayron Hosley falling down the depth chart. Thurmond's market was likely affected by his November suspension, but he's a strong get for the G-Men.

Free agent CB Walter Thurmond has left his Jaguars visit and will meet with the 49ers next.

A previous report had Thurmond set to visit the Bucs and Redskins, but they may either take place later on, or have been canceled. Thurmond is our No. 2 free agent cornerback left, behind only Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie.

Free agent CB Walter Thurmond III has visits scheduled with the Bucs and Redskins.

Thurmond is also getting interest from old coach Gus Bradley, and the Seahawks want him back as well. He's likely looking for a starting job after serving as Seattle's nickel back.

Free agent CB Walter Thurmond III will visit the Jaguars "within the next 24 hours."

All the former Seahawks defenders want to flock to Jacksonville to play for Gus Bradley. Thurmond was thrust into a starting role last season after Brandon Browner was suspended and handled himself well on the way to a Super Bowl title. He already has a four-game suspension on his record, which will affect his market.

ESPN Chargers reporter Eric Williams thinks the team could show interest in free agent CB Walter Thurmond III.

Williams is simply thinking out loud here, but the Chargers' cornerback need is no secret. The Bolts swung and missed on Derek Cox last offseason and are expected to cut him. Shareece Wright is the only starting-caliber corner on the roster, and that's being generous. Thurmond will likely pursue a starting job after operating as Seattle's nickel back. He's our No. 7 free-agent corner.

Seahawks activated CB Walter Thurmond III from the reserve/suspended list.

Thurmond missed for games for being popped for marijuana. Seattle's slot corner will slide right back into nickel back duties behind RCB Byron Maxwell and LCB Richard Sherman. Jeremy Lane will lose playing time.

KJR 950 Seattle's Dave Mahler hears that Seahawks CB Walter Thurmond III's four-game suspension is for marijuana.

He'll be eligible to return in Week 17. The Seahawks will likely turn to usual special teamer Byron Maxwell at right cornerback, with Jeremy Lane in the slot and Richard Sherman manning his usual left corner post. Consider Seattle a slightly more favorable matchup for opposing pass games. They still have elite safeties, Sherman, and a ferocious, deep group of pass rushers.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports Seahawks CB Walter Thurmond will be suspended for games for violating the league's substance abuse policy.

Per RapSheet, Thurmond was not popped for performance-enhancing drugs like Brandon Browner and Richard Sherman last year. (They both used ADD medicine to enhance their in-game focus.) Thurmond has been Seattle's slot corner all year, and is starting with Browner shelved by a significant groin injury. Thurmond's loss is a major blow to a Seahawks defense that will now have to rely on its depth. They have Jeremy Lane and Byron Maxwell in reserve.

CB Walter Thurmond III was reportedly one of the Seahawks' most impressive players during spring workouts.

Thurmond has appeared in just eight games over the last two years due to a broken leg and subsequent complications. Now healthy, beat writer Danny O'Neil says Seahawks coaches were "scrambling for ways to get him involved." Thurmond has the inside track on the No. 4 corner job, forming an impressive quartet with Richard Sherman, Brandon Browner and Antoine Winfield.

Seahawks coach Pete Carroll believes fourth-year CB Walter Thurmond III is finally over the injury hump.

A severely broken leg helped limit Thurmond to just eight combined games the past two seasons. "He has been in a situation where he’s kind of had to hold back a little bit for a long time and he’s really able to go for it now," Carroll said. "He’s got extraordinary quickness. He’s a playmaker and he’s fighting to play a bunch, not just to be around here." Thurmond will open the season no higher than fourth on the depth chart, and possibly lower.

Seahawks placed CB Walter Thurmond III (hamstring) on season-ending injured reserve.

The move opens up a spot for RCB Brandon Browner to return from suspension. Thurmond played in two games this season after returning from a broken leg suffered in 2011. He recorded three tackles. Thurmond will enter the final year of his rookie deal in 2013.

Seahawks declared CBs Walter Thurmond III and DeShawn Shead, S Winston Guy, LB Leroy Hill, OGs Rishaw Johnson and John Moffitt, and OT Mike Person inactive for Week 17 versus the Rams.

Thurmond and Hill have hamstring injuries. Guy is coming off suspension, but he's obviously not playing. J.R. Sweezy will start at right guard again with Moffitt out. Marshawn Lynch (back) and Sidney Rice (knee) are both active and will start.

Seahawks CB Walter Thurmond III (hamstring) has been ruled out for Week 17.

Thurmond hinted on his Twitter account that the injury could also keep him sidelined during the playoffs. "He's still feeling (discomfort) and that's not a good sign for this week obviously, and it's going to be hard for him to get back next week too I would think," said coach Pete Carroll. With Brandon Browner suspended for one more game, Jeremy Lane will again get the start opposite Richard Sherman in Sunday's finale.

Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll is hoping that injured CBs Walter Thurmond III (hamstring) and Marcus Trufant (hamstring) can return for Week 16.

Thurmond appears to be ahead of Trufant in the recovery process, but neither one is expected to return to practice on Wednesday. With Richard Sherman's four-game suspension appeal to be held on Friday, both corners may end up starting on Sunday night against the 49ers.
