CSN Philly's Geoff Mosher said Walter Thurmond should open the season as the starting safety opposite Malcolm Jenkins.
"Thurmond’s had a really nice camp," Mosher said, "and his instincts are far better than any other of the candidates." Thurmond has never played safety before, but he has the playmaking skills to be a competent center fielder. Health will always be a concern for Thurmond, but the starting job appears his to lose. New Eagles DB Walter Thurmond III has been running as a starter at safety opposite Malcolm Jenkins in OTAs.

It appears Thurmond's position change is more than experimental. It's a straw being grasped at by coach Chip Kelly, but understandable considering the Eagles' current depth chart and 2014 safety play. Thurmond could be a playmaker on the back end, but it remains to be seen how much his pectoral, knee and leg issues have sapped his athleticism. Thurmond turns 28 in August.

New Eagles DB Walter Thurmond III is playing safety in OTAs.

The sixth-year pro has never played safety in the NFL. Of course, he played little of anything last season after tearing his pectoral, managing only 67 snaps for the Giants. It's possible that injuries have sapped enough of Thurmond's athleticism that safety makes the most sense as his 2015 home. We'll see if the experiment sticks through camp.

Eagles agreed to terms with CB Walter Thurmond III, formerly of the Giants, on a one-year contract.

The deal should be for very little money. 27-year-old Thurmond's NFL career has been ravaged by injuries, including last year's season-ending pectoral tear. Thurmond also has an extensive history of knee and leg problems. When healthy, the Oregon alum has flashed playmaking ability at slot corner.

The Giants reportedly want to re-sign CB Walter Thurmond III for something close to the minimum.

Thurmond is a talented nickel corner, but injuries have zapped his market value. He tore his pectoral muscle in Week 2 last year and will be cheap for the Giants to keep.

Impending free-agent CB Walter Thurmond said he would like to re-sign with the Giants.

"I love the city of New York and I’m willing to come back," Thurmond said. A free-agent acquisition last offseason, Thurmond only played two games with the Giants before being placed on injured reserve with a torn pectoral. A talented player, Thurmond's injury history limited him to a one-year deal during free agency last season. Thurmond is Rotoworld's No. 14 free-agent corner.

Giants CB Walter Thurmond III sustained a torn pectoral in Sunday's loss to the Cardinals and is out for the season.

Thurmond, a talented player who had to settle for a one-year deal in free agency in part due to injury history, will have surgery this week. It's another blow to a reeling 0-2 Giants team. The only sliver of good news is that CB Jayron Hosley will be off suspension for Week 5 and can slide into Thurmond's slot role.

Giants CB Walter Thurmond III sustained a strained pectoral in Sunday's Week 2 loss to the Cardinals.

Thurmond, a key add to the Giants secondary in free agency, will have an MRI on Monday to determine the extent of the damage.

Former NFL personnel director Louis Riddick calls new Giants CB Walter Thurmond III "special."

The Giants were able to steal Thurmond on a one-year, $3 million contract thanks to off-field and injury concerns. "He's a dynamite press corner, who is as good with his technique as Byron Maxwell, as Richard Sherman," Riddick said. Thanks to the Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie signing, Thurmond will likely open the season as a third corner in what is now a very deep unit. He shouldn't have a problem earning a much bigger payday a year from now.

Giants signed CB Walter Thurmond III, formerly of the Seahawks, to a one-year, $3.5 million contract.

The Giants are arguably having the best free agency period in the NFL, not that it necessarily means a whole lot. Thurmond, 26, has good size at 5-foot-11 and 190 pounds and can play the slot and outside. We'd tentatively expect him to start opposite Prince Amukamara with Trumaine McBride at nickel back, and disappointing 2012 third-rounder Jayron Hosley falling down the depth chart. Thurmond's market was likely affected by his November suspension, but he's a strong get for the G-Men.

Free agent CB Walter Thurmond has left his Jaguars visit and will meet with the 49ers next.

A previous report had Thurmond set to visit the Bucs and Redskins, but they may either take place later on, or have been canceled. Thurmond is our No. 2 free agent cornerback left, behind only Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie.

Free agent CB Walter Thurmond III has visits scheduled with the Bucs and Redskins.

Thurmond is also getting interest from old coach Gus Bradley, and the Seahawks want him back as well. He's likely looking for a starting job after serving as Seattle's nickel back.

Free agent CB Walter Thurmond III will visit the Jaguars "within the next 24 hours."

All the former Seahawks defenders want to flock to Jacksonville to play for Gus Bradley. Thurmond was thrust into a starting role last season after Brandon Browner was suspended and handled himself well on the way to a Super Bowl title. He already has a four-game suspension on his record, which will affect his market.

ESPN Chargers reporter Eric Williams thinks the team could show interest in free agent CB Walter Thurmond III.

Williams is simply thinking out loud here, but the Chargers' cornerback need is no secret. The Bolts swung and missed on Derek Cox last offseason and are expected to cut him. Shareece Wright is the only starting-caliber corner on the roster, and that's being generous. Thurmond will likely pursue a starting job after operating as Seattle's nickel back. He's our No. 7 free-agent corner.

Seahawks activated CB Walter Thurmond III from the reserve/suspended list.

Thurmond missed for games for being popped for marijuana. Seattle's slot corner will slide right back into nickel back duties behind RCB Byron Maxwell and LCB Richard Sherman. Jeremy Lane will lose playing time.
