Clayton tallied 31 tackles in 14 games last season. The large majority of his snaps in Oakland should come on special teams.

Eagles waived LB Keenan Clayton and TE Chase Ford.

A fourth-round pick in 2010, Clayton ended up appearing in only 21 games in two years, and saw just four defensive snaps in 2011. His fourth-round pedigree could lead to a waiver claim, but Clayton won't be more than a special teamer in 2012.

Eagles LB Keenan Clayton (hernia surgery) has reported to camp healthy.

Clayton underwent the surgery in late May, so it wasn't a given he'd be ready. With DeMeco Ryans and Mychal Kendricks now in tow in Philadelphia, Clayton will need a strong camp and preseason to hold his roster spot.

Eagles LB Keenan Clayton underwent surgery Tuesday to repair a sports hernia.

The recovery timetable for sports hernia surgeries can vary greatly. Clayton won't be guaranteed to be fully recovered in time for training camp. With the additions of DeMeco Ryans and Mychal Kendricks, his role in nickel packages figures to decrease regardless.

The Philadelphia Inquirer believes Eagles LB Keenan Clayton may have "one last summer to make a positive impression."

Expected to get "more of an opportunity" last season, Clayton instead saw all of four snaps on defense. With the Eagles in the process of revamping their linebacker corps, Clayton will need to turn in an extremely strong preseason to be assured of a roster spot.

The Philadelphia Inquirer expects LB/S Keenan Clayton to get "more of an opportunity" next season.

Clayton has to settle into a position first. He tried to put on weight to settle in at linebacker last season, but he never got big enough to outgrow a hybrid role in nickel packages. With OTAs and possibly training camp in jeopardy, he's likely to remain a role player in 2011.

Jeff McLane suggests that LBs Keenan Clayton and Omar Gaither are the last two linebackers guaranteed to make the roster, assuming the team takes a minimum of 5.

McLane also says that Jamar Chaney should make the 53-man roster, as he doubts Chaney would clear waivers and the team probably doesn't want to take less than 6 for the unit. The Eagles have a completely revamped linebacker corp in defensive coordinator Sean McDermott's first full season.

Eagles signed fourth-round LB Keenan Clayton to a four-year contract.

A safety-sized (6'1/229) "SAM" prospect, Clayton was drafted to help a defense that was tormented by opposing tight ends last season. He'll see time in nickel packages and on special teams as a rookie.

Eagles selected Oklahoma LB Keenan Clayton with the No. 121 overall pick in the 2010 NFL Draft.

A strong-side linebacker prospect, Clayton converted to "SAM" in Bob Stoops' defense for his senior year after originally playing safety. At 6'1/221, he projects as a Keith Ellison-type nickel 'backer with some punch, forcing two fumbles in 2009. Clayton will back up Moise Fokou and play special teams in Philadelphia. He's not a realistic long-term solution.
