Patriots re-signed restricted free agent TE Michael Hoomanawanui to a one-year, $1.323 million contract.
Hoomanawanui, 25 in July, was signed by the Patriots prior to last season after spending two years with the Rams as a fifth-round pick. He appeared in 14 games for New England, registering five catches for 109 yards. Hoomanawanui is used almost exclusively as a blocker. Apr 15 - 6:16 PM

Michael Hoomanawanui played on 50-of-59 snaps after Rob Gronkowski (forearm) left Sunday's Divisional Round win.

Hoomanawanui may have taken Gronkowski's snaps, but he didn't play the same role. The 6'4/263 behemoth didn't see a single target, instead staying in-line and being asked exclusively to block. Shane Vereen is a better bet to pick up passing-game looks.

Patriots signed TE Michael Hoomanawanui to a one-year contract.

Hoomanawanui was waived by the Rams on Sunday, added to the Redskins practice squad Tuesday and is now part of the Patriots' 53-man roster. He's reunited with OC Josh McDaniels, who coached the oft-injured blocker in St. Louis. Hoomanawanui is expected to slide in as the No. 4 tight end, taking the place of a sidelined Visanthe Shiancoe.

The Patriots are expected to sign TE Michael Hoomanawanui to their 53-man roster if he passes a physical.

The Josh McDaniels connection strikes again. Hoomanawanui joined the Redskins' practice squad after getting waived by the Rams, but the Pats are in the market for more tight end depth behind Rob Gronkowski and Aaron Hernandez. The oft-injured "Big Mike" would slide in behind Daniel Fells as the No. 4 tight end. Visanthe Shiancoe (undisclosed) might be headed for injured reserve.

Rams waived TE Michael Hoomanawanui and released OL Quinn Ojinnaka.

They claimed OT Ty Nsekhe and OG Shelley Smith off waivers from the Colts and Texans, respectively. Although "Illinois Mike" was a solid blocker who flashed decent pass-catching ability underneath, in two seasons with St. Louis he was regularly on the shelf and ultimately not enough of a difference maker. Ojinnaka will be replaced as the Rams' swing tackle by Wayne Hunter.

Rams TE Michael Hoomanawanui (ACL surgery) has been cleared to practice.

Hoomanawanui has never been a fast healer, so it's a positive sign that he's ready to participate in training camp seven months after surgery. Primarily a blocking specialist, "Illinois Mike" is without fantasy relevance behind Lance Kendricks.

Rams TE Michael Hoomanawanui (ACL surgery) has resumed running.

Hoomanawanui suffered the injury in mid-November. Assuming he takes the normal recovery path, he should be getting close to 100 percent just as training camp opens.

Rams TE Michael Hoomanawanui is done for the season with a torn right ACL.

The timing of the injury may threaten Hoomanawanui's status for the start of the 2011 season. He's never been a fast healer. The 132nd pick in the 2010 draft, Hoomanawanui has been an incredibly injury-prone pro and will end this year having missed 16 of his first 32 possible games. Though he started eight times in 2011, Hoomanawanui was mostly a blocker with 83 yards on seven catches.

Rams TE Michael Hoomanawanui (knee) is likely done for the season.

Hoomanawanui suffered his injury on the final play of the third quarter in Sunday's win over the Browns. He tried to hurdle Joe Haden, but his knee slammed into the defender. The oft-injured Hoomanawanui had just seven catches for 81 yards in eight games played this season.

Rams TE Michael Hoomanawanui was forced from Sunday's game against the Browns with a right knee injury, and will not return.

With his leg planted, Hoomanawanui took a direct hit to his knee from Joe Haden's helmet. It had the looks of a potentially season-ending injury, and leaves the Rams with just Billy Bajema at tight end with Lance Kendricks sidelined with a foot injury. His status should be updated at coach Steve Spagnuolo's Monday press conference.

Rams TE Michael Hoomanawanui (concussion) will return to practice Wednesday.

Hoomanawanui is getting back pretty quick considering this was his second concussion since training camp. The oft-injured backup has two catches in three games this season.

Rams TE Michael Hoomanawanui has been officially diagnosed with a concussion.

The concussion is Hoomanawanui's second since the beginning of training camp, while the injury is his fourth of the year. "Illinois Mike" was once an intriguing pass catcher, but is now miles away from fantasy relevance.

Rams TE Michael Hoomanawanui was forced from Sunday's game against the Redskins with a head injury.

It's Hoomanawanui's third injury of the young season, and likely his second concussion since the beginning of training camp. Awful news for a player who has proven to be as fragile as any in the league. His status should be updated some time in the next 24 hours.

Rams TE Michael Hoomanawanui suffered a strained back in Sunday's loss to the Ravens.

Another week, another injury for "Illinois Mike," who has proven incapable of staying on the field in his first two seasons. With just two catches in two games this season, Hoomanawanui is well off the fantasy radar.

Rams TE Michael Hoomanawanui (calf, questionable) is expected to play in Monday's Week 2 game against the Giants.

The Redskins had success running two tight end sets against the Giants in Week 1, though Hoomanawanui is expected to serve as a blocker with Lance Kendricks as a receiver when both are on the field. His presence won't hurt Kendricks' fantasy value.
