Eagles CB Nolan Carroll said he's been cleared to return from his broken fibula.

It was initially reported Carroll broke his ankle. (The fibula attaches to the ankle.) Carroll also suffered some ligament damage and had screws put in, but should be fine in time for OTAs after re-signing with the Eagles on a one-year deal. Carroll was the Eagles' best corner before getting hurt in November.
Mar 18 - 11:13 AM

Eagles re-signed CB Nolan Carroll to a one-year, $2.36 million contract.

The deal is "worth up to" $3 million. Carroll took a visit with the Cowboys, but he will return for his third season in Philadelphia. Arguably the Eagles' best corner before going down with a broken ankle on Thanksgiving Day, Carroll should have the inside track on a starting spot. He turned 29 in January.
Mar 15 - 10:20 AM

Free agent CB Nolan Carroll left his visit with the Cowboys without a deal.

Considering Dallas decided to bring back Morris Claiborne on Friday, it could mean any potential deal with Carroll is dead. The Eagles reportedly still want to re-sign him, and the Dolphins are reportedly "in play" as well. Carroll broke his ankle on Thanksgiving Day, but he should be ready for training camp.
Mar 12 - 9:14 AM

Free agent CB Nolan Carroll will visit the Cowboys on Thursday.

Former teammate DE Cedric Thornton will also be visiting Valley Ranch on Thursday. The Eagles' best corner before breaking his ankle on Thanksgiving last season, Carroll could prove a shrewd signing for the cap-limited Cowboys. He should be ready for training camp.
Mar 10 - 11:54 AM

Impending free agent CB Nolan Carroll's (ankle) reps met with the Eagles at the Scouting Combine.

Carroll has said he "would love" to re-sign with the Eagles, and it appears the interest is mutual. Carroll was arguably Philly's best corner before breaking his ankle on Thanksgiving, but his return could stunt the development of sophomore Eric Rowe, who stepped into the starting lineup once Carroll went down. Carroll expects to be ready for OTAs.
Mar 1 - 8:23 AM

Impending free agent CB Nolan Carroll said he "would love" to re-sign with the Eagles.

"I just fell in love with how the city is and how the fans are, how the organization is," he said. "Everybody is welcoming. Everybody loves each other. That’s something you don’t see in a lot of organizations and a lot of people." Carroll is recovering from a broken fibula he suffered Thanksgiving Day. He was the Eagles' best corner before going down, but Philadelphia likely wants sophomore Eric Rowe to step into the starting lineup. Carroll could be re-signed as veteran insurance, but the Eagles are not going to break the bank to keep him around.

Eagles placed RCB Nolan Carroll on injured reserve with a broken right ankle, ending his season.

Carroll was the Birds' best cornerback in 2015, but that wasn't saying much. He wound up as Pro Football Focus' No. 63-graded corner out of 111 qualifiers, and No. 52 in pass coverage. Carroll turns 28 in January. An impending free agent, Carroll is unlikely to generate a busy market next March.

Eagles LCB Nolan Carroll has been diagnosed with a broken right ankle.

It will be a season-ending injury. It's a crushing blow for the Eagles. Carroll has hardly been dominating, but has been the Eagles' best corner this season. Shaky second-round rookie Eric Rowe will now be forced into a starting role opposite Byron Maxwell. Things are going to get very ugly for Chip Kelly's defense down the stretch. Two months shy of his 29th birthday, Carroll is headed for free agency.

Eagles LCB Nolan Carroll was carted off with a right ankle injury in Philadelphia's Week 12 game against the Lions.

Carroll got rolled up in ugly fashion, and appeared to be in a ton of pain before he was loaded onto the cart and taken to the locker room. Second-rounder Eric Rowe is now in the game opposite Byron Maxwell.

Nolan Carroll is expected to serve as the Eagles' slot corner in Week 1.

Carroll will start on the outside and then kick into the slot in nickel situations. Eric Rowe or E.J. Biggers will fill in outside in sub packages. Despite signing Byron Maxwell, the Eagles' secondary is a questionable unit entering the season.

CSN Philly's John Boruk considers Nolan Carroll the favorite for the starting corner job opposite Byron Maxwell.

"He's taken the majority of the first-team reps," Boruk said. "Chip Kelly has said that he's done an unbelievable job so far." Rookie Eric Rowe could push him, but Carroll has the size (6'1/205) Chip Kelly covets on the outside. If the Eagles are truly this high on Carroll, it's worth wondering why he didn't start over Bradley Fletcher last year.

Eagles CB Nolan Carroll has been working as the starter opposite Byron Maxwell at OTAs.

With Walter Thurmond playing mostly safety at OTAs, the corner job opposite Maxwell is open to competition and Carroll is the early favorite over rookie Eric Rowe and slot corner-only Brandon Boykin. Carroll (5'11/204) has plus size and received positive marks in coverage across 388 snaps last season.

Eagles CB Nolan Carroll has been impressive during spring practices.

A press-man corner by trade, Carroll does not have a ton of experience playing the off coverage required during non-contact practices. That lack of experience makes his stellar play all the more impressive and lends credence to the idea that Carroll could be even better once the pads come on in training camp. Carroll has a real shot to beat out Cary Williams for the starting cornerback job.

Eagles new CB Nolan Carroll expects to compete for a starting job in 2014.

"Coach (Chip) Kelly told me I’ll come in and compete for a starting spot," Carroll said. Carroll's size and press coverage skills fit well in Philadelphia, and he has the talent to beat out the underwhelming Cary Williams, though it is more likely Carroll serves a sub-package corner to start the season. Either way, Carroll adds solid depth to a secondary bereft of it in 2013.
