Dolphins declared CB Nolan Carroll (knee) inactive for Sunday's game against the Bills.
Carroll practiced on a limited basis Friday, but isn't ready to return after leaving last week's game with a knee injury. He'll be replaced by Dimitri Patterson in the starting lineup. Also inactive for the Dolphins are QB Pat Devlin, DT Kheeston Randall, TE Kyle Miller, OT Patrick Brown, WR Davone Bess, and LB Koa Misi. Third-round pick TE Michael Egnew is active for the first time this season. Sun, Dec 23, 2012 11:40:00 AM

Dolphins RCB Nolan Carroll exited Sunday's Week 15 game with a second-quarter knee injury.

Replacement R.J. Stanford promptly got beat for a would-be touchdown catch by Justin Blackmon, although it was called back.

Dolphins head coach Joe Philbin said RCB Nolan Carroll needs to play better.

Carroll was abused last Thursday night in Buffalo to the tune of four penalties for 76 yards. "These guys that have been in the league, they're professionals. They know their job's on the line... (Carroll)'s aware of what he needs to do and things he needs to do better." Carroll was primarily a special teams player prior to 2012, but with the trade of Vontae Davis and a season-ending back injury to Richard Marshall, he's been thrust into a starting role. Miami has just four corners on the roster, and there's nobody else to really turn to.

Dolphins declared CB Nolan Carroll, TE Anthony Fasano, T Lydon Murtha, G Allen Barbre, DL Ryan Baker, DL Chris Baker, LB Mike Rivera, and WR Julius Pruitt inactive for Week 17.

No surprises for the Dolphins, who declared Carroll, Murtha, and Fasano out earlier this week. Murtha's absence causes a shakeup on the offensive line. Joe Berger will start at center, Richie Incognito at left guard, and Pat McQuistan starts at right tackle. Mickey Shuler will be starting in place of Anthony Fasano and is not a fantasy option.

Dolphins CB Nolan Carroll (concussion) did not travel with the Dolphins to New England, and has been ruled out for Week 17 against the Patriots.

With Miami's playoff hopes long gone and the Pats having clinched home field advantage throughout the AFC playoffs, Carroll's work on special teams won't be needed in what is largely a meaningless Week 17 matchup. The former Terrapin made headlines earlier this season as the victim of "Tripgate", the Week 14 scandal that turned Jets' strength and conditioning coach Sal Alosi into a pariah.

Dolphins CB Nolan Carroll left Sunday's game with a concussion.

He's done for the day. Carroll generated headlines when he was tripped by Jets strength coach Sal Alosi while trying to cover a punt a few weeks back.

Jets suspended strength coach Sal Alosi indefinitely after discovering that he instructed players to form a wall along the sideline for special teams punt and kickoff coverage.

Originally announced as extending through the regular season and playoffs, Alosi's suspension has been adjusted following the discovery of new information. Jets players and Alosi essentially formed a "phalanx" down the sideline, and Alosi stuck his leg out to trip Dolphins gunner Nolan Carroll in special teams coverage last week. Alosi now appears to be in significant danger of losing his job, on top of his previous ban and $25,000 fine.

Jets suspended strength coach Sal Alosi for the remainder of the regular season and playoffs without pay for tripping Dolphins gunner Nolan Carroll in Week 14.

Alosi was fined an additional $25,000, which is a significant amount for a strength coach. Alosi apologized for his actions Monday, saying he "wasn't thinking" when he stuck his leg out to prevent Carroll from covering a punt. "Nothing went through my head," said Alosi. "I feel terrible." He's lucky Carroll wasn't seriously injured. He's also lucky to still have his job.

The Jets have confirmed that strength coach Sal Alosi tripped Dolphins CB Nolan Carroll on the sideline of Sunday's game while Carroll was attempting to cover a punt on special teams.

Images of the trip are available all over the internet. Rex Ryan hardly addressed the incident after Sunday's loss, saying he didn't want to get into "what ifs." A club spokesman confirmed that "The team is reviewing the situation and is looking into the appropriate next step." Alosi can expect a fine at the very least. His job could also be on the line.

Dolphins CB Nolan Carroll appeared to be tripped by a Jets staffer on the sideline while covering a punt, resulting in a leg injury.

Carroll was able to walk off under his own power and has returned to the game, but this is not the last we've heard of this story. Carroll was serving as a gunner when he veered out of bounds. As he came back in, an unidentified member of the Jets organization appeared to stick his knee out and knock Carroll off balance. CBS cameras caught it clearly.

Dolphins rookie CB Nolan Carroll's ankle injury is not serious.

Carroll injured the ankle in the second quarter Sunday and was unable to return. It's not clear at this point if the rookie kickoff returner will be able to play in Week 8.

Dolphins rookie CB Nolan Carroll has reportedly nailed down the kickoff return job.

Carroll, Miami's nickel back of the future, averaged 23.6 yards on seven preseason returns. The coach staff was apparently leery of putting too much on Patrick Cobbs' plate in his return from reconstructive knee surgery.

Fifth-round CB Nolan Carroll has reportedly been the "surprise star" of Dolphins training camp so far.

Carroll has already worked his way to fourth on the depth chart, ahead of Jason Allen. Carroll's problem has always been staying healthy, but if he can he's looking like a serious draft steal. The Fins are putting together an impressive combination of youth and talent at the cornerback position.

Dolphins signed fifth-round CB Nolan Carroll to a four-year contract.

An oft-injured speedster, Carroll was drafted to be a potential nickel back of the future. This year, he'll have to run down kicks to earn playing time.

Dolphins selected Maryland CB Nolan Carroll with the No. 145 overall pick in the 2010 NFL Draft.

Though prone to injury, Carroll is worth a flier due to impressive measurables. He proved his health by testing extremely well this offseason after missing all but two games in 2009 with a fractured tibia. Carroll, though, didn't have a single interception in college. He's an upside pick who won't be hard to cut ties with as an end-game fifth-rounder.
