Cowboys signed CB Nolan Carroll, formerly of the Eagles, on a three-year, $10-million contract.

Carroll was arguably the Eagles' most consistent corner in 2016, but that is not saying much. Still, he is a starter-quality option -- albeit low-end -- for a team which could lose both Brandon Carr and Morris Claiborne. Carroll will likely be asked to play a big role in 2017.

Impending free agent CB Nolan Carroll said he has opened contract talks with the Eagles.

"I'd like to come back, but it's not just up to me," Carroll said. "We'll see what happens." Coming off a broken ankle, Carroll had to settle for a one-year deal in March. He will be healthy as he heads to the open market this time around, but he has not been any better than average this season. The Eagles need to upgrade their corner corps during the offseason.

Eagles CB Nolan Carroll has passed the league's concussion protocol.

That puts him on track to play Sunday against Seattle. Carroll has struggled mightily this year, earning PFF's 14th-worst cornerback grade out of 116 qualifiers. Teammate Jalen Mills is dead-last.

Eagles CB Nolan Carroll (concussion) returned to practice Thursday.

Carroll left last week's game with a concussion in the first half. It is promising he was able to return Thursday, but he still has some hurdles to jump in the protocol. Jalen Mills and Leodis McKelvin should start if Carroll sits.

Nolan Carroll exited Week 10 against the Falcons with a concussion.

Carroll was taken to the locker room to be evaluated for a concussion just before halftime. He was ruled out with a concussion after the break. Leodis McKelvin, who was active but not playing because of a hamstring injury, took over for Carroll.

Eagles CB Nolan Carroll has locked up the starting job opposite Leodis McKelvin.

Carroll had been competing with Ron Brooks, but he was always the favorite. Brooks will now man the slot in sub packages. Carroll was the Eagles' best corner before suffering a broken fibula last Thanksgiving.

Eagles CB Nolan Carroll has moved ahead of Ron Brooks on the depth chart.

This was the expectation all along, but Carroll took a long time to make it official as he recovered from a broken leg. Carroll and Leodis McKelvin will man the boundaries, with Brooks working in the slot.

Eagles CB Nolan Carroll (broken fibula) has been cleared for limited work.

Carroll missed all of OTAs after breaking his fibula in November. He will be limited in minicamp, but he should be a full-go for training camp. Carroll will compete with Ron Brooks and Eric Rowe to start opposite Leodis McKelvin.

Eagles CB Nolan Carroll (broken fibula) hasn’t been cleared for OTAs.

Carroll said earlier this week he was cleared. He’s not participating in team drills, but should be ready for June’s mandatory minicamp. Carroll has the inside track to start opposite Eric Rowe.

Eagles CB Nolan Carroll said he's been cleared to return from his broken fibula.

It was initially reported Carroll broke his ankle. (The fibula attaches to the ankle.) Carroll also suffered some ligament damage and had screws put in, but should be fine in time for OTAs after re-signing with the Eagles on a one-year deal. Carroll was the Eagles' best corner before getting hurt in November.

Eagles re-signed CB Nolan Carroll to a one-year, $2.36 million contract.

The deal is "worth up to" $3 million. Carroll took a visit with the Cowboys, but he will return for his third season in Philadelphia. Arguably the Eagles' best corner before going down with a broken ankle on Thanksgiving Day, Carroll should have the inside track on a starting spot. He turned 29 in January.

Free agent CB Nolan Carroll left his visit with the Cowboys without a deal.

Considering Dallas decided to bring back Morris Claiborne on Friday, it could mean any potential deal with Carroll is dead. The Eagles reportedly still want to re-sign him, and the Dolphins are reportedly "in play" as well. Carroll broke his ankle on Thanksgiving Day, but he should be ready for training camp.

Free agent CB Nolan Carroll will visit the Cowboys on Thursday.

Former teammate DE Cedric Thornton will also be visiting Valley Ranch on Thursday. The Eagles' best corner before breaking his ankle on Thanksgiving last season, Carroll could prove a shrewd signing for the cap-limited Cowboys. He should be ready for training camp.
Thu, Mar 10, 2016 11:54:00 AM

Impending free agent CB Nolan Carroll's (ankle) reps met with the Eagles at the Scouting Combine.

Carroll has said he "would love" to re-sign with the Eagles, and it appears the interest is mutual. Carroll was arguably Philly's best corner before breaking his ankle on Thanksgiving, but his return could stunt the development of sophomore Eric Rowe, who stepped into the starting lineup once Carroll went down. Carroll expects to be ready for OTAs.
