The Chargers have "penciled in" Cam Thomas as the team's starting nose tackle.
Thomas has started just five games in his short career, but veterans Antonio Garay and Aubrayo Franklin are no longer sporting powder blue. It's Thomas' turn. The 6-foot-4, 335-pound behemoth could be looking at a nice pay day if he shows well in his new role. Thomas has one year left on his rookie deal. He'll be flanked by Corey Liuget and Kendall Reyes on the defensive line. May 20 - 7:04 PM

Chargers NT Cam Thomas' 2013 base salary increased from $575,000 to $1.323 million after he hit escalators in his rookie deal.

Thomas has started just five games in his career, but he's been an important rotational lineman who has shown the ability to put pressure on the quarterback. He has 47 career tackles to go with six sacks. Thomas was a fifth-round pick out of North Carolina in 2010, and is entering the final year of his contract.

Rookie DT Cam Thomas notched his first career sack in Week 11 against Denver.

Thomas has been active for just three games this season but has already flashed the ability that had scouts projecting him as a second or third round pick. Plucked up in the fifth round, Thomas has emerged as a legit run stuffer and the longterm option to replace former NT Jamal Williams.

Chargers signed fifth-round DT Cam Thomas to a four-year, $1.981 million contract.

A first-day talent who slipped to the fifth round, Thomas could not have landed in a better situation. With Jamal Williams and 2009 starter Ian Scott gone, Thomas has a real chance to start at nose tackle as a rookie. The former UNC Tar Heel is competing with Antonio Garay and Ogemdi Nwagbuo.

Chargers fifth-round NT Cam Thomas is expected to play in a rotation with Antonio Garay and Ogemdi Nwagbuo this year.

Nwagbuo, miscast as a nose tackle at just 300 pounds, faded badly in the second half after taking over for Jamal Williams last year. Thomas is far more talented than either veteran, so he'll be given more responsibility as the season progresses.

Chargers selected North Carolina NT Cam Thomas with the No. 146 overall pick in the 2010 NFL Draft.

Jamal Williams' replacement. Thomas was projected to go in the second or third round, so the Chargers are getting a steal here after putting a higher priority on running back early in the draft. At 6'4/330, Thomas is a true nose tackle, eating space while playing low to the ground. Thomas wore down easily with the Tarheels, so he may be just a rotational player with the Bolts as a rookie.
