Falcons waived WR Kerry Meier.
A 2010 fifth-round pick out of Kansas, Meier only made it into 12 career games in Atlanta, playing special teams. He was a quarterback early in his college career before converting to wide receiver. NFL interest will be scant. Mon, Apr 22, 2013 03:29:00 PM

Falcons waived/injured WR Kerry Meier.

So much for Meier's grip on the No. 4 wideout gig. Kevin Cone is the front-runner for the gig as Drew Davis was also cut Friday.

Kerry Meier is expected to be the Falcons' No. 4 receiver this year.

The new Brian Finneran, Meier's role is essentially special teamer and backup for all three wideouts in three-receiver sets. We wouldn't count on fantasy value even if Roddy White or Julio Jones missed extended time with an injury.

The Falcons are not easing WR Kerry Meier (ACL surgery) into training camp.

A fully recovered Meier has taken part in every practice, and the Falcons are "very pleased" with what they've seen. The versatile Meier is the successor to fourth receiver and special teamer Brian Finneran, so he's more valuable to the Falcons than fantasy leaguers.

Falcons WR Kerry Meier (knee) has been cleared to return to practice.

Meier blew out his knee during the preseason last year and now faces an uphill battle to make the team. He'd be the No. 4 receiver at best even if he can beat out Eric Weems.

Falcons WR Kerry Meier is "nearing" full health for the first time since tearing his ACL last preseason.

The 2010 fifth-round pick will have a hard time cracking a crowded Falcons' receiving corps that now includes Julio Jones, particularly if free agent Eric Weems is re-signed (as expected). Even if Meier does make the team, he won't be a viable fantasy option in any format.

Falcons WR Kerry Meier is "way ahead of schedule" in his recovery from last summer's ACL surgery, confirms GM Thomas Dimitroff.

Meier is considered the "jack-of-all-trades" successor to Brian Finneran as a receiver, special teamer, and part-time H-back. The Falcons have been aggressively praising Meier and Harry Douglas in what appears to be a thinly veiled attempt at misdirection leading up to the draft.

Coach Mike Smith indicated that WR Kerry Meier is ahead of schedule in his recovery from an August ACL tear.

The Falcons never revealed the extent of Meier's knee injury, but the Atlanta Journal-Constitution recently confirmed it was a torn ACL. "We were very impressed with him during the preseason," said Smith. Meier is headed toward a fifth-receiver/special teams role if he makes the team in 2011.

Coach Mike Smith confirmed that rookie WR Kerry Meier on his way to a backup receiver and special teams role before sustaining a season-ending knee injury.

Details of Meier's injury still have not been released. The Falcons would seem to be in the market for depth at the position, but Smith indicated that the team will go forward with Brian Finneran and Harry Douglas until Michael Jenkins returns from a shoulder injury in September.

Falcons placed rookie WR Kerry Meier (knee) on injured reserve, ending his season.

Meier went down in Atlanta's second preseason game. The onetime Kansas quarterback was having a big camp as a slot receiver, so the Falcons wouldn't have ended his year if his injury was insignificant. Meier likely tore ligaments in the knee. The team will move forward with Brian Finneran as the favorite to start at split end until Michael Jenkins (shoulder) returns.

The Falcons "quietly are excited" by what they've seen from fifth-round WR Kerry Meier in training camp.

Meier has lined up at all three receiver spots, and one team official says he's yet to drop a pass. Meier has interesting size and projects as a fine possession receiver. He, Harry Douglas, and Eric Weems will see an increase in practice reps with Michael Jenkins (shoulder) out 4-6 weeks.

Falcons rookie WR Kerry Meier is off to a great start in training camp.

The onetime college quarterback has been running crisp routes and caught everything thrown his way. Roddy White, Michael Jenkins, and Harry Douglas will hold down the Nos. 1-3 spots, but the Falcons' No. 4 receiver job is up for grabs. Brian Finneran and Eric Weems are Meier's main combatants.

Falcons agreed to terms with fifth-round WR Kerry Meier on a four-year contract.

The converted quarterback is Kansas State's all-time receptions leader with 226. A big, sure-handed target, Meier projects as the successor to long-time Falcon Brian Finneran as a possession receiver. He'll have to contribute on special teams to make the roster as a rookie.

Falcons selected Kansas State WR Kerry Meier with the No. 165 overall pick in the 2010 draft.

An insanely productive slot receiver in his final two seasons after converting from QB, Meier isn't a downfield threat and must learn to play special teams to make the roster even in a relatively weak Falcons receiver corps. Though he has soft hands and knows how to find soft spots in zone defenses, Meier comes up short in terms of NFL-caliber athleticism, particularly speed.
