Broncos signed G Shelley Smith, formerly of the Dolphins, to a two-year, $5.65 million contract.
Smith was scheduled to visit the Falcons after leaving Denver without a contract earlier this week, but the Broncos obviously changed his mind. Smith was wholly ineffective last season in Miami, but he will be given a shot to earn a starting role on the Broncos' incredibly thin offensive line. Smith's athleticism projects as a fit in new Broncos coach Gary Kubiak's offense. Mar 13 - 7:03 PM

Smith visited the Broncos late this week, but left without a deal. The athletic 28-year-old would be an option to replace LG Justin Blalock in Atlanta.

Free agent OG Shelley Smith will visit the Broncos.

Denver has huge holes to fill on the offensive line with LG Orlando Franklin gone and C Will Montgomery's contract up. Smith struggled with the Dolphins last season but could do better in a zone blocking scheme. He's also drawn interest from the Falcons and Seahawks.

The Falcons have expressed interest in free agent OG Shelley Smith.

Smith visited Seattle earlier this week, but left without a contract. Smith has also received interest from Denver. It's no coincidence that all three of these clubs run zone-blocking schemes. Smith can start in a ZBS.

Free agent OG Shelley Smith is visiting the Seahawks on Wednesday.

Smith was cut loose by the Dolphins on Tuesday. Guard was a trouble spot for the Seahawks last season. They have an opening on the left side after letting James Carpenter walk, but Smith wouldn't be a realistic candidate to start.

Dolphins released OG Shelley Smith.

Gearing up for the signing of Ndamukong Suh and fighting off challenges for transition player Charles Clay, the move saves Miami $2.75 million against the cap. Smith appeared in just 11 games last season, starting three of them. He was a major liability when on the field. He'll search for No. 3/4 guard duties on the open market.

Dolphins RG Shelley Smith (knee) is expected to miss 2-4 weeks.

Smith sustained a Grade 2 knee sprain in Sunday's loss at Buffalo. Dallas Thomas came on in his absence, getting a neutral grade from PFF on 41 snaps.

Shelley Smith started the Dolphins' third preseason game at right guard, but rotated series with Dallas Thomas.

Thomas struggled while Smith was solid throughout. After a failed experiment at center, Smith is now back in his more comfortable guard position. He should open the season as the starting right guard.

Shelley Smith took most of the first-team right guard reps at Dolphins practice this week.

Dallas Thomas heads to the bench after getting destroyed in both the run and pass games during Miami's first two preseason games. Smith entered camp as the starting center after Mike Pouncey got hurt. That transition didn't work, and he's back at his more natural position. Smith is an above-average run blocker.

Shelley Smith is now working as the second-string left guard at Dolphins camp.

Thought to be a prize free agent acquisition, Smith flamed out quickly in an early-camp trial at center, and now is backing up Daryn Colledge. The good news is RG Dallas Thomas has been a pleasant surprise, and at least Miami has formed continuity up front with Samson Satele seemingly entrenched at center. A proficient run blocker with last year's Rams, Smith should provide solid depth.

ESPN Dolphins reporter James Walker said the team's center position "is starting to become a major concern."

Converted-guard Shelley Smith has struggled with errant snaps and was benched in favor of Nate Garner after two more fumbled snaps Wednesday. If Smith's struggles continue, the Dolphins could turn to Garner or free agent Samson Satele. The Dolphins' offensive line remains a mess.

Converted G Shelley Smith and QB Ryan Tannehill struggled with center-to-quarterback exchanges on the first day of Dolphins camp.

The lack of cohesion was unsurprising considering Smith was not informed of his position switch to center until two days before camp. Still, with Mike Pouncey sidelined until midseason, it's an issue the Dolphins need to work out. The rest of the "rebuilt" line did not fare much better during the practice, with bookend tackles Brandon Albert and rookie Ja'Wuan James getting beat regularly.

The Dolphins have moved RG Shelley Smith to center.

Smith has "never played center at any level," but the Dolphins are prioritizing run blocking on the pivot with incumbent C Mike Pouncey sidelined until midseason. Daryn Colledge is expected to fill the left guard spot, with Nate Garner, Dallas Thomas, and rookie Billy Turner competing opposite him. The Dolphins' starting tackles are Branden Albert and first-round pick Ja'Wuan James.

The Dolphins are using Shelley Smith at right guard.

Smith's strength is run blocking, so it makes sense to use him on the strong side next to rookie RT Ja'Wuan James. From left to right, Miami's projected first-team line is LT Branden Albert, LG Billy Turner, C Mike Pouncey, RG Smith, and RT James. Turner is trying to hold off Nate Garner and Dallas Thomas for snaps.

Dolphins agreed to terms with OG Shelley Smith, formerly of the Rams, on a two-year, $5.5 million contract.

The deal includes $1.5 million guaranteed. It's a nice signing for a team moving on from the Richie Incognito/John Jerry "era," though Smith has made only eight career starts. Smith is a road grader in the run game, but needs to improve as a pass blocker. Going on 27, he'll get every opportunity to earn a starting job.
