Panthers declared WR David Gettis, S D.J. Campbell, CB James Dockery, LB Jason Williams, OT Bruce Campbell, DE Antwan Applewhite, and QB Jimmy Clausen inactive for Monday night's game against the Eagles.
Gettis is a healthy scratch for the second consecutive week and has fallen behind Armanti Edwards on the depth chart. Applewhite (hamstring) is the only player among the group that has an injury. Mon, Nov 26, 2012 07:11:00 PM

Panthers WR David Gettis was a healthy scratch in Week 11, losing his spot to kick returner Armanti Edwards.

"David is still getting his feet back under him," Rivera said. "We had him up before because Brandon LaFell wasn't playing and I wasn't convinced that Joe (Adams) was ready. I may have put him out there a little too soon." Gettis appears unlikely to make an impact in 2012.

Panthers declared WR David Gettis (hamstring) inactive for Sunday's game against the Bucs.

Gettis is off PUP, but he just hasn't done enough in practices to get a uniform on gameday. He's no threat to Brandon LaFell as the "man" opposite Steve Smith. The rest of the Panthers' inactives: QB Jimmy Clausen, S D.J. Campbell, LB Jason Williams, OL Jeremy Bridges, T Bruce Campbell and DE Antwan Applewhite.

Panthers activated WR David Gettis (hamstring) off PUP.

Gettis takes the roster spot of Kealoha Pilares, who lands on IR with a shoulder injury. Gettis showed promise as a rookie in 2010, racking up a 37/508/3 line in 13 starts. But since then, he has torn his ACL, sustained a severe hamstring pull and Brandon LaFell has emerged as the Panthers' No. 2 wideout. As long as LaFell's concussion issues don't linger, Gettis will be battling with Louis Murphy for scraps.

The Panthers will decide whether to activate WR David Gettis (hamstring) from the PUP list on Tuesday.

Gettis was expected to be activated for Week 9, but wasn't and that's somewhat concerning because the Panthers had a wide receiver need with Brandon LaFell battling a concussion. Whether Gettis will be activated this season remains to be seen. He could push Louis Murphy for No. 3 receiver duties if healthy.

Panthers WR David Gettis (hamstring) is expected to be activated from the PUP list in Week 9.

The Gettis activation will require Carolina to drop a player from the bottom of its 53-man roster. Gettis beat out Brandon LaFell for a starting job when they were both rookies two years ago. It isn't crazy to think Gettis could eventually begin cutting into LaFell's playing time down the season's stretch.

Panthers WR David Gettis (hamstring, PUP) will resume practicing on Wednesday.

Players on reserve/PUP like Gettis get a three-week window for activation to the 53-man roster immediately after they resume practicing. The Panthers seem to believe Gettis is right on track to help them in the second half of the season, and he could be dressed for a game as soon as Week 8. Keep an eye on Gettis because his vertical speed nicely fits Carolina's vertical offense.

Panthers WR David Gettis (knee/hamstring, PUP) told the Charlotte Observer Monday that he "feels great."

Gettis can resume practicing next week. A buildup speed guy who can fly down the football field at 6'3/216, Gettis flashed promise as a rookie in 2010, beating out higher-rated Brandon LaFell for a starting job before missing all of 2011 with a torn ACL. The Panthers need help at receiver and run a vertical pass offense. Gettis could earn a role in three-wide sets before the season is up.

Panthers placed WR David Gettis (hamstring) on reserve/PUP.

He won't be eligible until Week 8. It's bitterly disappointing Gettis missed all of camp after being diagnosed with a "minor" hamstring injury. The Panthers originally insisted Gettis' absence had nothing to do with last year's torn ACL, but it's hard to believe that's the case. Once in the mix for Carolina's No. 3 job, Gettis will likely be in for a minimal role whenever he's ready to return.

Panthers WR David Gettis (hamstring) remains sidelined.

Gettis remains on the camp/PUP list, and the Charlotte Observer believes it's cost him any shot at the Panthers' No. 3 job, or even a part of a No. 3 committee. Seyi Ajirotutu, Kealoha Pilares, and Louis Murphy could all rotate snaps behind Steve Smith and Brandon LaFell. Gettis is off the radar in fantasy leagues.

The Panthers are "optimistic" WR David Gettis (hamstring) will return to practice before the end of the week.

Gettis has yet to practice in camp after missing all of 2011 with a torn left ACL. Competing with Louis Murphy and Seyi Ajirotutu for No. 3 receiver duties, Gettis needs to make some preseason noise if he's going to win that battle.

David Gettis (hamstring) hasn't been cleared to return to practice yet, but is running full speed.

Gettis, who is also coming off an August 2011 ACL tear, has missed more than a week of training camp now. He has to prove his health before we can take him seriously as a contender for the No. 3 wideout job.

Panthers WR David Gettis (hamstring) said he should be ready to play in "a couple days."

Gettis, who was already rehabbing from a torn ACL, picked up a mild hamstring strain. He's in the mix for the No. 3 wideout gig, but needs to sustain some health. Newly signed Louis Murphy is ready to pick up leftover reps.

David Gettis is beginning training camp on the active/PUP list due to a hamstring injury.

Gettis is coming off a torn ACL, but GM Marty Hurney says the two injuries are not related. He's expected to come off active/PUP list shortly after camp begins this weekend. We actually like the news that he has a hamstring injury, and didn't suffer a setback with the surgically reconstructed knee. Gettis is in the mix for No. 3 wideout duties behind Steve Smith and Brandon LaFell.

Panthers GM Marty Hurney insists the acquisition of WR Louis Murphy is "not at all" a sign that David Gettis isn't coming along well in his recovery from ACL surgery.

The Panthers front office liked Murphy coming out of Florida, and Hurney believes he adds a size/speed element to a shallow wide receiver corps. Following the lead of the Saints and Patriots, the Panthers are stockpiling the offensive personnel to play power football on the ground or spread out defenses via multi-wide sets in the passing game. Gettis will begin camp on the active/PUP list.
